(Besides, still up for the year last I checked.)

Obama Family’s $100 Million Trip To Africa Among Most Expensive Presidential Trips Ever…

To give you an idea how expensive this is, Bill Clinton’s most expensive trip cost taxpayers $63.5 million, which is $36.5 less than Obama’s.

"Estimated up to $100 million" by whom?

But yeah, how could a presidential trip in 2013 to third-world countries with unreliable security cost "up to $100 million" while a Clinton trip 20 years ago cost $63 million? How could that be???

Still having a hard time with the fact that Obama is by far the worst president in the history of ever? Gosh Merc it's been nearly five years.

On a serious note what are we going to do come 2016 if a Republican wins. Dems don't seem to whine about every little thing that comes to pass and Republicans will quietly forget to brag unless he's busy conquering the globe. I think we may need to plan ahead.

From CNNMoney: "76% of Americans are living paycheck-to-paycheck"

Roughly three-quarters of Americans are living paycheck-to-paycheck, with little to no emergency savings, according to a survey released by Bankrate.com Monday.

Fewer than one in four Americans have enough money in their savings account to cover at least six months of expenses, enough to help cushion the blow of a job loss, medical emergency or some other unexpected event, according to the survey of 1,000 adults. Meanwhile, 50% of those surveyed have less than a three-month cushion and 27% had no savings at all.

Think NSA Spying Is Bad? Here Comes ObamaCare Hub

By JOHN MERLINE, INVESTOR'S BUSINESS DAILY

Posted 08:14 AM ET

The Health and Human Services Department earlier this year exposed just how vast the government's data collection efforts will be on millions of Americans as a result of ObamaCare.

Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., asked HHS to provide "a complete list of agencies that will interact with the Federal Data Services Hub." The Hub is a central feature of ObamaCare, since it will be used by the new insurance exchanges to determine eligibility for benefits, exemptions from the federal mandate, and how much to grant in federal insurance subsidies.

In response, the HHS said the ObamaCare data hub will "interact" with seven other federal agencies: Social Security Administration, the IRS, the Department of Homeland Security, the Veterans Administration, Office of Personnel Management, the Department of Defense and — believe it or not — the Peace Corps. Plus the Hub will plug into state Medicaid databases.

And what sort of data will be "routed through" the Hub? Social Security numbers, income, family size, citizenship and immigration status, incarceration status, and enrollment status in other health plans, according to the HHS.

"The federal government is planning to quietly enact what could be the largest consolidation of personal data in the history of the republic," noted Stephen Parente, a University of Minnesota finance professor.

Not to worry, says the Obama administration. "The hub will not store consumer information, but will securely transmit data between state and federal systems to verify consumer application information," it claimed in an online fact sheet .

But a regulatory notice filed by the administration in February tells a different story.

That filing describes a new "system of records" that will store names, birth dates, Social Security numbers, taxpayer status, gender, ethnicity, email addresses, telephone numbers on the millions of people expected to apply for coverage at the ObamaCare exchanges, as well as "tax return information from the IRS, income information from the Social Security Administration, and financial information from other third-party sources."

They will also store data from businesses buying coverage through an exchange, including a "list of qualified employees and their tax ID numbers," and keep it all on file for 10 years.

In addition, the filing says the federal government can disclose this information "without the consent of the individual" to a wide range of people, including "agency contractors, consultants, or grantees" who "need to have access to the records" to help run ObamaCare, as well as law enforcement officials to "investigate potential fraud."

Rep. Diane Black, R-Tenn., complained that just months before ObamaCare officially starts, the Obama administration still hasn't answered "even the most basic questions about the Data Hub," such as who will have access to what information, or what training and clearances will be required.

Beyond these concerns is the government's rather sorry record in protecting confidential information.

Late last year, for example, a hacker was able to gain access to a South Carolina database that contained Social Security numbers and bank account data on 3.6 million people.

A Government Accountability Office report found that weaknesses in IRS security systems "continue to jeopardize the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the financial and sensitive taxpayer information."

A separate inspector general audit found that the IRS inadvertently disclosed information on thousands of taxpayers between 2009 and 2010. In 2011, the Social Security Administration accidentally released names, birth dates and Social Security numbers of tens of thousands of Americans.

If these government agencies can't protect data kept on their own servers, how much more vulnerable will these databases be when they're constantly getting tapped by the ObamaCare Data Hub?

In any case, creating even richer and more comprehensive databases on Americans will create a powerful incentive to abuse them among those looking to score political points by revealing private information or criminals who want to steal identities.

A recent CNN poll found that 62% of Americans say "government is so large and powerful that it threatens the rights and freedoms of ordinary Americans."

What will the public think once ObamaCare and its vast data machine is in full force?

Think NSA Spying Is Bad? Here Comes ObamaCare Hub

God forbid that the government should get your personal contact information and a copy of your tax return when determining how big of a tax credit to give you.

The solution for the tin foil hat people: don't use exchanges, just pay full price.

They seriously haven't stopped running that one?! I suppose it is technically possible to survive without a fridge but why don't we run articles about how 100% of Americans live free of the threat of Mongol Raids if we're just listing things that would suck if they happened?

South African Muslim, Union, Communist Groups Form “NO-Bama” Coalition To Call For Arrest Of Obama When He Visits Country On War Crime And Genocide Charges…

Update to this story.

Johannesburg: The Muslim Lawyers’ Association in South Africa has called for the arrest of US President Barack Obama on war crime and genocide charges when he visits the country from Friday.

The Association has called for Obama’s arrest because they believe he has ordered the deaths of numerous suspects overseas, citing this as “reason enough for him to be investigated, charged, arrested, and tried in a South African court for war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide”.

It is one of fifteen civil society organisations that have banded together as the ‘NO-Bama Coalition’ to object to his first visit to the country as President.

The organisations include various trades unions and student’s associations as well ruling African National Congress tripartite alliance partners – the South African Communist Party and the Congress of South African Trade Unions.

The South African government is undeterred by the planned protests, saying that it might even be good for the country because allowing the protests would show the level of freedom of expression in South Africa.

5 Senators Who Support Immigration Bill Don't Know Answer to Key Question About It

Obamacare poses a tricky problem for supporters of the Senate's comprehensive immigration reform bill. It would be too politically toxic to give illegal immigrants amnesty and taxpayer subsidies under Obamacare, so the Senate bill prohibits "registered provisional immigrants" (individuals who are now residing illegally in the United States granted legal status under the bill) from receiving Obamacare subsidies. But in so doing the Senate's immigration bill would create a big financial incentive for some employers to hire non-citizens granted legal status over American citizens.

Max Baucus

As the Washington Examiner's Philip Klein recently reported: "Under Obamacare, businesses with over 50 workers that employ American citizens without offering them qualifying health insurance could be subject to fines of up to $3,000 per worker. But because newly legalized immigrants wouldn’t be eligible for subsidies on the Obamacare exchanges until after they become citizens – at least 13 years under the Senate bill – businesses could avoid such fines by hiring the new immigrants instead."

On Tuesday afternoon, THE WEEKLY STANDARD asked five different U.S. Senators about this problem. These five senators, all Democrats, voted to cut off debate Monday night on the revised immigration bill, but none of them knew if the bill would create a financial incentive for some employers to hire amnestied immigrants instead of American citizens.

"We're trying to solve that right now. I don't know if that's been solved," Senator Max Baucus of Montana (chief author of Obamacare) told THE WEEKLY STANDARD.

"I don't know. I'd have to look at it closely," said Senator Bob Casey of Pennsylvania. "I just haven't read it that closely to know."

Senator Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut said he thought the Affordable Care Act's fines would apply no matter what. "I'd have to look at the ACA, but I don't think it distinguishes" between citizens and those on a path to citizenship, Blumenthal said. But then he said he wasn't quite sure. "I mean I'd have to look. You're asking a legal question. It's not an opinion question," Blumenthal added. "I don't recall any distinction in the law. But that's a good question. I'd have to check."

Senator Tom Carper of Delaware said he was too busy to answer the question. "I don't have the time to drill down on it right now," he told me. And Senator Barbara Boxer of California replied with something of a non sequitur before the Senators-only elevator doors closed in my face. "I think if you work for an employer who offers health care, you will get the health care you want," Boxer said. Spokesmen for Senators McCain and Rubio did not reply to a request for comment.

It's possible that last minute changes could still fix this problem in the bill, but it should be remarkable that so many senators voted to cut off debate on the bill Monday night without knowing whether the problem even exists.

And, to clear up any uncertainty, The New Republic, Investors' Business Daily, and the Washington Examiner have all reported that the bill certainly does create an incentive for some employers to hire "registered provisional immigrants" instead of U.S. citizens. The Washington Post's Glenn Kessler wrote that the claim is false, but then he updated his article to admit he was wrong.

U.S. first-quarter GDP cut to 1.8% from 2.4%Stories You Might Like

By Jeffry Bartash WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) - The U.S. economy grew a lot slower in the first quarter than previously believed, mainly because of less consumer spending on services and weaker business investment. Gross domestic product rose by 1.8% in the January-to-March period, down from a prior estimate of 2.4%, the Commerce Department said Wednesday in the last of three regular updates. Economists polled by MarketWatch had expected growth to remain unchanged at 2.4%. The increase in consumer spending - the main engine of the U.S. economy - was lowered to 2.6% from 3.4%. Americans did not spend as much on services such as health care and legal advice, the government said. Outlays for services were reduced to a 1.7% increase from 3.1%. Investment in business structures such as office buildings and plants also fell a steeper 8.3% instead of 3.5% as previously reported. Meanwhile, exports were revised to show a 1.1% decline and not a 0.8% gain, while imports actually fell 0.4% instead of rising 1.9%. The biggest bright spot: residential investment jumped 14% in the first quarter, up from a prior read of 12.1%. That's further evidence of a housing market gaining momentum. Most other figures in the GDP report were little changed.

Cruz tries to offer amendment addressing ObamaCare penalty in immigration bill

Lengthy, but definitely worth the time spent on it. If you don’t have the time to watch Senator Ted Cruz try to fix the massive application of the Law of Unintended Consequences that arose last night in the Gang of Eight’s comprehensive immigration reform bill — the penalty for hiring American citizens and legal immigrants rather than “RPIs” because of ObamaCare — then read the transcript at Cruz’s official Senate website. Cruz’ amendment would fix the problem for the Go8 … or would have, had Democrats not objected to its addition to the floor debate:

One would think that if the Senate was serious about passing meaningful reform with security for both the borders and legal workers presently in the US, they’d welcome a fix from Ted Cruz. If not, then that speaks to the priorities of all involved.
