God

God is in the sadness and the laughter, in the bitter and the sweet. There is a divine purpose behind everything — and therefore a divine presence in everything.

I am not alone at all, I thought. I was never alone at all. And that, of course, is the message of Christmas. We are never alone. Not when the night is darkest, the wind coldest, the world seemingly most indifferent. For this is still the time God chooses.

I have to keep reminding myself:
If you give your life to God, he doesn't promise you happiness and that everything will go well.
But he does promise you peace. You can have peace and joy, even in bad circumstances.

There is no surprise more magical than the surprise of being loved. It is God's finger on man's shoulder.

To learn the secret of right relations, look only for the divine in people and things, and leave all the rest to God.

The purpose of life is to listen - to yourself, to your neighbor, to your world and to God and, when the time comes, to respond in as helpful a way as you can find... from within and without.

Talk happiness; talk faith; talk health. Say you are well, and all is well with you, and God shall hear your words and make them true.

God changes appearances every second. Blessed is the man who can recognize him in all his disguises. One moment he is a glass of fresh water, the next, your son bouncing on your knees or an enchanting woman, or perhaps merely a morning walk.

You may not know,
But it is absolutely true:
With each heartbeat
Your heart is calling: 'God, God!'
You may not hear it,
But God Himself definitely hears
Your heart's cry.

The one thing we can all agree, all faiths and ideologies, is that God is with the vulnerable and poor.
God is in the slums, in the cardboard boxes where the poor play house...
God is in the silence of a mother who has infected her child with a virus that will end both their lives...
God is in the cries heard under the rubble of war...
God is in the debris of wasted opportunity and lives, and God is with us if we are with them.

I learned the most important lesson of my life:
that the extraordinary is not the birthright of a chosen and privileged few, but of all people, even the humblest.
That is my one certainty:
we are all the manifestation of the divinity of God.

No one is useless to God.
No one, at any point in his or her life,
is useless to God -
not a little child,
not the unattractive,
not the clumsy,
not the tired,
not the discouraged.

God uses his children.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light not our darkness that frightens us.

We ask ourselves 'who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be? Your are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.

It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.

As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world's deep need meet.

If you don't find God in the next person you meet, it is a waste of time looking for him further.

My heart is afraid that it will have to suffer,' the boy told the alchemist one night as they looked up at the moonless sky.

'Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And that no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dreams, because every second of the search is a second's encounter with God and with eternity

If you oppress poor people, you insult the God who makes them; but kindness shown to the poor is an act of worship.

The day will come when, after harnessing space, the winds, the tides and gravitation, we shall harness for God the energies of love. And on that day, for the second time in the history of the world, we shall have discovered fire.

Love all of God's creation, the whole of it and every grain of sand. Love every leaf, every ray of God's light! Love the animals, love the plants, love everything. If you love everything, you will soon perceive the divine mystery in things. Once you perceive it, you will begin to comprehend it better every day. And you will come at last to love the whole world with an all-embracing love.

When no one is looking,
I swallow deserts and clouds
and chew on mountains
knowing they are sweet bones!
When no one is looking
and I want to kiss God,
I just lift my own hand to my mouth.

One day I said to God --
I'm going to search
For the meaning to my existence
I'm going to find the talent within me
Then develop it to the best of my ability
And I'm going to make the most of this Life
That I have been given
And I'm going to do this
Without infringing upon anyone else's
Opportunity to do the same
And God replied
'I couldn't ask for anything more'
