The Official Author's Hangout Halloween Contest Support Thread

Yeah, mine's over 6K and probably only half done. I like it so far, though, so that's good.

2012 Halloween Contest

http://www.punjabigraphics.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/sexy-witch.gif

There seems to be some confusion on what is allowed and not allowed in the A.I.R. section of the 2012 Halloween Contest. I'd suggest that all contestants go back and read the rules carefully before submitting.

FYI the A.I.R. contest does not accept NON-EROTIC stories. And for those who’ve read LAREL’S post I think it’s quite clear she’s looking for “hot” stories in her contest. Why do you think the site is called LITEROTICA?

Quite frankly the readers who flock to this site are not interested in non-erotic amateur stories. And if you try to deliver them this non-erotica they’re fully justified in voting down your stories. They rightly believe you should take your non-erotica somewhere else!

And who can argue with them?

I think I've got that part covered with my story. Hot? Yea that parts Okay. Omm yea...Hot yea...I got the hot part. Grin.

Nobody gives a shit what's acceptable in your fake contest, Jim

This from the man who has deluged me with PM’s and e-mails, always asking how he might win an A.I.R. Award? My response to him (and to all authors who inquire) has always been: “write a story that our readership likes”.

Ace and so many AHers like him always want to do it the easy way. Get given something they haven’t earned.

Sorry all, that’s not how we work! “least read” stories don’t win in our world. Nor do turgid, 25 vote gay stories.

All Categories are allowed and welcome in any Literotica Contest.

What idiot is talking about up above is that most all categories are banned from his fake contest except Incest. That's all he writes and since he can't win a real contest, he started his fake contest. Guess who is a multi-time winner of his own contest.

Outlines for both of my Halloween stories are done.

They're creeping me out.

Not sure this is a good thing- is it possible to write smut and have a panic attack at the same time?

Making progress

One huge (220K) follow up to my GOR-y Halloween, is done and in my final edit. For someone who typically enters a contest in the last week, this is a major milestone.

The small story (about 5-6 pages so far) is 90% done. I may actually have 2 stories done before the contest even opens. My first Erotic Horror story, yet another weird twist on a haunted house. I kind of like it.

Not eligible for any prizes, maybe the trolls and vote goblins will leave me alone this time....nah.

Good luck to all you writers plugging away - Looking forward to this one. I always like reading the stuff in this competition.

I've never been much on horror so I'm trying to approach this from another angle.

Have to Ask...

So I'm struggling with whether to enter another Lit contest, basically because I can't even post my regular work to the site anymore without receiving hate mail in my connected email account (it's good to be popular) and I see, Tx, that you're choosing to enter despite not being eligible to win. Enlighten me. Why? Are you doing it for your readers, because you love to write, to see what kind of response your stories get, to piss off the trolls and vote goblins, as you called them... or for some other reason? Honestly, I'm considering entering my latest erotic horror (which will not win the contest simply because it's, well... nasty and horrific and so far from what my readers generally support that they'll most likely be shocked I wrote it) just to piss off my detractors. But I'd like to hear your reasons for entering. Perhaps it will restore my faith.

Best of luck to all who enter -

I have an idea for a contest story based around the more recent Halloween phenomenon of "Fetish Balls." Just wondering if that would a) count for this contest and b) hasn't all ready been done to death in previous years.

Why wouldn't it count? Especially if you set it in/near Halloween? And I doubt it's been done to death, but even if, so what? The "same costume/mistaken identity" theme is probably one of the most common themes, but people still do that.

I was thinking less costume/mistaken identity and more naive being introduced to BDSM/fetish culture. I think I am going to get a start on it asap.

I'm sorry -- I didn't mean to say you were doing a mistaken identity story. I was just saying that even if your "fetish ball" theme has been done before, so what? The "mistaken identity" theme is done all the time at Halloween. Just trying to point out that using a theme that's been used isn't a bad idea, and is done by many writers.

And the contest is for any stories in any category so long as they have a Halloween or Samhain or spooky theme.

Not an issue PL. Thank you for the encouragement. =)

BDSM works almost all year round. I have a couple in mind for Christmas. I haven't tried one for Halloween yet. It does present some interesting possibilities. Even costumed ones.

My BDSM story is turning out to be one that may never be seen- it's gone sideways. Damn the bitchy muse anyway- she wants to write tentacle porn instead of flogger porn. I may try to edit it down.

The other one is just sickening. I dreamed about it last night. Needless to say- I didn't get much sleep. Surprisingly enough- I still think it's decent!

This get's long. For you with the short attention span (TL;DR crowd) I offer a synopsis: I like writing. I need an audience

Now back to WickedWendyDru...

LOL - too funny. You hit on every reason I do this crap.

Thanks for asking, by the way. It made me do a little soul searching. Why the fuck AM I doing this.

I love to write. Even when I'm not posting, I'm writing. Not always this stuff, but probably half the time it's not for the general public. One of my stories from the contest came from a little niggling idea that wouldn't go away. A year later, it's done, and will be submitted. Not like anything I've written before, my first Erotic Horror scene. But I enjoyed writing it - the research, building the characters, creating the background. All of it.

I appreciate my readers. I'm fortunate to have a pretty loyal following (too loyal, I'm thinking, from the vote tampering I've been getting), I get a lot of emails, the vast majority encouraging. I know how I hate to get 4 chapters into a good story to see it's incomplete and dead for 5 years. So my second story for the contest is a follow-up to my entry from two years ago. I know, I'm a bastard for making them wait that long.

I like to mix it up. See the different results. Stretch myself. My stories currently range across 12 different categories, and I've managed at some point to get on the 1st page of top-lists in six of them. It pleases me to no end to somehow win a contest with a Loving Wives entry, the most trolled and defiled category, where even great stories go to die. Add a third place Erotic Couplings - vanilla ice cream - and you can imagine I get a kick out of it.

Pissing off the trolls and haters is just bonus material. Let them one-bomb me. Brilliant, artistic comments like "Asshole", "You suck," "Obviously you know nothing about the male anatomy" (Uh--I am a male?") How about a recent one "Sick, vile shit... not erotic or romantic. And NOT BDSM!" No shit. It's in NonConsent, not BDSM. Read the category, clueless. (Although to be fair, that story - The Reluctant Gift - was definitely written to annoy. Much like Bad Heather. A poke in the eye. )

I most enjoy connecting to a reader now and then. Both Charity Begins At Home, and the Perfect Game garner emails and comments that surprise me. Many of the Charity Begins at Home comments and emails literally brought me to tears. Not an easy thing to do (although it seems to be getting easier with the start of the gray hair.)

I've had my rejections here. Resubmitting stories multiple times. I get beat to death in the contests with vote tampering. Fuck if I know why I'm targeted every, fucking, time. I had a story ranked in the top 5 overall for months, just to disappear. If I lived by the votes and scores, looking for a fair playing field, I'd be in a straight jacket. Let the shit roll off, and hope it fertilizes daisies at your feet. Twice I've told myself I was going to stop posting here, it takes so much time, and for what? A little red H and a couple of nice emails? If I was single or looking, maybe I could play the email game for a little strange, but not my style.

I post here, even in contests I can't win, because I like to write, and I like to be read, and hear back whatever, love it, hate it, change it, go die in a hole. That's the heart of it. Not money, (obviously) or glory (although I can take a little pride in the top 15 favorited thing), but writing without an audience is like masturbation - I'm more of a hot group sex guy. I write, because I love it. I post, for the feedback. Pretty simple.

You write well, WickedWendyDru. I imagine you don't need me to tell you that. Fuck the trolls and nay-sayers, or better yet bait and tease them...

Looking forward to your entry. Even though I'm not a GM fan myself, there are several authors I can't help but reading. If only as a lesson in better writing. Just don't let sr71plt, know... ;)

There's nothing wrong with tentacle porn. :D

I can't even post my regular work to the site anymore without receiving hate mail ...

What I did a few weeks ago was post a story to LW designed to annoy as many people as possible. After receiving about 40 nasty comments (eg. "go back to your janitor job") I think things can only go up from there.

And, strangely enough, a few people liked it.

"Obviously you know nothing about the male anatomy"

You can't have been playing with it enough, Tx.
