If I had to just pick one I'd go with yes. These are people who not too long ago went pretty bat shit over some comics. The idea that a bunch of easily riled people who already have plans in place launched them when there was a convenient excuse and or they got butt hurt doesn't sound unlikely. In addition the lie that the former Navy SEALS were part of the ambassador's security detail is false. Turns out they were working for a contractor in other security matters and were in no way responsible for the Ambassador's safety. They jumped into the fight when they saw the Ambassador's security begin to crumble.

Rather than take a 'we're going to find out' stance regarding the attack they immediately spun a story and a motive, both of which have been relegated to the dust bin of bad fiction. It was totally 'knee jerk' and driven by domestic politics as opposed to any sort of cogent foreign policy.

Further, they may have been the primary cause of subsequent demonstrations by bringing continued notice to the video clip that they erroneously blamed the Benghazi attack on. And I will be the first to admit that this is mere conjecture, it can hardly be argued that by continually focusing on a non-motive they actually achieved anything constructive.

Regardless we are now faced with the fact that one of two things have occurred regarding this administrations foreign policy. Either they stepped up and tried to feed the US public, and the rest of the world, a lie, or they are so delusional that they believed every word they uttered. And It's really tough to call which of those two are the worse.
