It Sucks to be the Working Poor

I've been a civil rights worker since I was 19. My current employment involves knowing about the lives of desperate hard working people. It doesn't make any difference if the thread is about my friend or about all working poor. I wasn't fully aware that there is a class of people who struggle the way they do and I wondered about the awareness of members of the board, such as yourself.

Btw, I don't believe you called up your neighbor who happens to be a real estate and business attorney, but that was funny.

And, I'll post whatever the fuck I want to post and if you have a problem, put me on ignore.

Poor people are poor as a result of not working hard enough and lacking education and often intelligence.

Much of the middle and upper-class are such because they are college-educated and have the intelligence and aptitude to do things other than simple blue-collar labor.

When poor people reproduce, it just creates another generation of poverty and further compounds their problem.

As far as the law goes, I merely called my next door neighbor who IS an attorney that specializes in real estate and business law. You might also refer to the 'renter's rights' that are available, on-line, for everyone, in every state. So sparky, what state are we talking about here? Given the state, I, my neighbor, you, and everyone else reading this thread can look the law up.

But you aren't interested in the law, or renter rights. You're merely interested in throwing out a scenario that has NO basis in fact out of ignorance on your part. As a matter of fact you just admitted that this entire thread is bogus.

where I'm from, you have 10 days after your eviction notice to pay up if the reason for eviction is non payment

I dont know how it is in individual US states, but paying up in that time rescinds your eviction up here in my province

The scenario is unfortunately very real. I have a 36 year old female friend who is unmarried and has full responsibility for her mother and 3 teenage children. She has no vice history and has never taken social assistance. She works 2 jobs while she goes to school to be a nurse.

The local research I've been doing seems that there maybe a landlord who wants her out for his own selfish reason and is bribing the Sherrie’s office to strong arm this family.

You can believe me or not, I don't care but the thread is about the working poor. My friend is one of many. Whether she has told me the whole truth and nothing but the truth is relevant only to me.

First of all, Realty Law necessarily encompasses renters rights because Realty Law has as much to do with revenue producing real estate as it does private or commercial transactions. Think it through.

In the US it takes 30 days in arrears before any action can be initiated and, if the owner is lucky, they might get a court order in 90 days. Eviction is not treated trivially nor easily obtained. If she could pay up within $10, the courts are going to give her a break. All she had to do was to respond.

But that isn't the point here, is it? He started a bogus thread and won't even disclose the state, which gives nothing of personal value away, to support his assertions. And if the scenario is in question, so is the assertion that she's employed in any capacity at all. Right? In the end, even had he not admitted that the whole thread is bogus, we are still left to question whether she's part of the 'working poor' or unemployed altogether.

And that brings us full circle to the notion of solutions and decisions.

Is it reasonable for the owner of a property to continue paying property taxes and a mortgage on a property that she, or anyone, is to be tolerated to be living in for free? Soon enough the bank will own the property, and if saddled with the notion that tenants live for free, they will abandon the property. And once the state owns the property several things happen. First of all is that property is off the tax rolls further eroding the ability of the state to provide other services. Eventually the situation will become so severe that the state will take action and THEY have rules of their own which usually circumvent all laws regarding private treaty relationships mainly because the remaining taxpayers will become irate at having to support such nonsense.

I've been on the phone most of the day trying to help out a friend who found herself homeless this morning after getting behind on her rent. She told me that the rent has been paid but the eviction order was already issued.

She has been trying to find shelter for herself and her family but is being told by all agencies that they either have no funds or that she would have to quit her two jobs and apply for welfare. It seems that the safety net encourages people to say fuck it and give up.

The world lacks the resources for every human to escape poverty and live a middle class or better life.

You presume that they make good choices.

But I will concede that there are those that always seem to be served the pits while there are others, that superficially, make terrible decisions and end up rolling in the roses. And that is nothing more than the 2 Sigma curve in action. (Look up 'normal population distribution.)

On the other hand we do have some empirical evidence to go by. Most big lottery winners (luck) are either right back where they started, or worse, impoverished, within 5 years after having won the lottery (choice).

Sometimes we have to go to food pantries just to eat, but we manage. My love is looking for a job, but his shyness is quite the problem. It cost him the only interview he's had so far. I'm working with him in social situations to get him used to dealing with people. I'm sure he'll get one and things will be better for us soon.

Wow. We're not allowed overtime. If we're going to go more than half an hour over forty hours in a week we have to leave without finishing our work, then get bitched at for it the next day. Holiday is time and a half, so that's good, I guess.
