The Last Thing You Thought...

I'm a Burton fan as well and Nightmare Before Christmas is one of my favorites.

You'll have to excuse my movie geek insert, but only the story idea and characters were Burton's. It was brought to life by director Henry Selick and writers Michael McDowell and Caroline Thompson. Then of course Danny Elfman who wrote the musical score. I'm not saying Burton wasn't involved he was definitely, but I feel like the others really get the short end of the credit for their work.

Okay... I'm done... you'll have to forgive me.

*grins* Let your geek flag fly.

Oh you're completely forgiven :) its one of those he takes all the main credit because the story was his. But I do agree, many others made it the movie it is today and they deserve credit too...

Oh I never said I would not want to tie SB down... It's just what happens when He gets loose... and He will.. get ... loose.....

As long as it's after I'm done with him. I'll accept my punishment then.

Of course I probably won't really have a choice not too.

Choice, will not be part of the equation, I'm sure...

(And He knows what scares the HELL out of me... So I'll just watch...LOL)

Tis merely an observation my dear. No need to toss me in. I prefer having you all to myself. ;)

Haha. Exactly!

It's actually kind of a miracle I didn't turn out that way, given what my parents did and didn't let me watch.

But, even in my more religious days I didn't worry much about how dark or violent or whatever something I was watching was. If it was good, it was good. That's all I was really worried about.

Of course, now.. the cinematic world is my oyster. :D

He has yet to learn what scares me so that is one small advantage I have.

Of course he does know what to say to make me really annoyed. But if he did say it I'm sure it will work even better or me.

My parents weren't TOO sheltering, but sheltering enough. My mom has always had a morbid sense of humor and that was easily passed down.

For me the darker and cynical the better depending on my mood. I happen to like a side of fluff as long as it's mixed in with a bit of wicked and/or angst. I feel that a movie is only as good as it's villain or adversary nothing is more disappointing then when it's too easy, which sadly is the case far too often. I want to feel like the good side can lose and do lose in part and sometimes the bad side wins even if temporarily. This is probably why Empire Strikes Back is my favorite movie. Seeing it as a kid set the tone of what I would enjoy about stories going forward.

Not that I believe she would mislead me, but I must try it to see the outcome.

Perhaps that will knock some sense into me

I think once my parents saw I was the good Christian boy they relaxed and trusted me, which my mom at least would probably now consider a mistake from her point of view, but.. that's a discussion that goes into a whole lot of other areas. Heh.

But yeah, I totally feel the same way. If there isn't any real peril involved, then it's just boring.

I'm (finally) reading the second Hunger Games book, and I think that's sort of my problem with the series as a whole thus far. I know it's a YA book and can't get too crazy, but it still just felt too... easy. It bugs me.

Hunger Games.... I have the book, but I haven't picked it up to read, yet. Since I bought it I will have to read it, but I feel unmotivated especially after watching the movie, which didn't impress me. On a technical stand point it's a good flick, but the battle scenes were a cop-out with way too much shaky cam. UGH, do not get me started on shaky cam. It's the worse thing to happen to movies since RomComs became cookie cutter pieces of drivel.

I know that they're not the same story, but I don't feel like there is any severe risk like I did when I saw Battle Royale, which is dark and violent. I haven't read the book yet, but the kid did, so she's really not very interested in The Hunger Games beyond a little mindless fun.

It's not terrible, and I feel like as a concept it's a good one, I think it just lacks in execution. There's too much cutesy shit, and I feel like things just aren't earned. There's a couple genuinely sad moments, a couple of quality twists, but.. I have little faith that it's going to end great, from what I've read thus far.

But, I'd read the first one, and it was a nice break from the books about the science of morality and the ways the universe is trying to kill us and evolution, so I started it. At least they're easy reads, if nothing else.

This is true and I'll give it a shot. I'm easily entertained/amused even if I'll gripe later about the lack of depth or wit later on. :)

I think mostly it'll just end up being a nice appetizer for me. Stephen King put out a new Dark Tower book, which I knew nothing of until I saw it in the bookstore, so I'm excited to start on it. I absolutely loved that series.

In fact, Cortland, in my Odyssey thread, is a name stolen from the Dark Tower series. Because I am terrible at names.
