The Official Author's Hangout Summer Lovin' Contest Support Thread

I have three chapters out of four written. I may put it in the contest depending on the final length. Right now it's over 10,000 words with a chapter to go. Have to work with Estragon and figure out what category would be best. I'm more into views, votes and comments then I am on winning. Good thing too or I would probably get disappointed. LOL

Best of luck to all who enters. Still have a couple of weeks before needing to enter the starting gates.

I'm looking forward to entering this contest. I haven't been around for a while and I've missed the place. I'm entering a story about baseball and I'm about 20% done with it. I should finish in time.

DG Hear, MFG, Have Ch 3 in the stack ready to work on tomorrow. Just finished a heavy job for LaRascasse. Not sure of category/genre, it's still early times yet.

Sandra_Mustard, Liked the idea of the semi-anonymous characters. It works in your story. But give poor ol' Woody a day off, please; you're going to grind him down to nothing.

I keep trying to pick up the rhythm and flow of my story but... sigh...

So I actually have an idea. I'm wondering if I could finish it within 10-ish days as the semester will start then and once it does, say goodbye to any free time to do anything.

damp, the only way you'll know is to try it. If you can't finish it before RL interferes, put it in your "saved" file and come back to it at the semester break. Then you'll know if it's worth further effort.

Thanks for the encouragement. I'll try. :)

I have a job interview on Wednesday! Good thing I've already finished my Summer Lovin' story, as if the interview goes well I might find myself without much free time all of a sudden. I'll miss having all this free time to write, but not nearly as much as I currently miss being able to pay my own bills. (I've also made a lot of progress on another story that was half-finished for months...every cloud has a silver lining.)

I wonder.

Would a foreign language story be eligible? I, with help, am trying to finish my shocker The Sheep of Doom but in French as Les Moutons De Mort.

I'd probably win the Authors' Hangout Last Place (tm) Contest with a foreign language story and would have an even better chance if I translated it in Welsh, Esperanto or an obscure New Guinea language.

Interesting question. It might be eligible but I'm sure it would tank. I mean, minus scores if it were at all possible kind of tank.

Sigh. There goes a chance of my reading it.

This should not be eligible! I mean, it's too easy to deliberately sabotage a story and win the Last Place Contest. :p

french or welsh? hmmmm. if it were rugby, i'd say fuck them all - and not in a good way. ;)

The rules don't require the entry to be in any specified language. So you could post in French, or Welsh, or Khmer, or whatever. Whether you'd get the votes or not is of course an entirely different matter.

And Ogg, wasn't the Chinese and Korean Olympic badminton fiasco enough? Unfair to throw the match!

First, I thought you weren't elegible for that award and, second, would it be considered a "genuine effort" if you posted a story in a foreign language?

True. I'm not eligible.

A genuine effort? It would be a very demanding task for me to complete an erotic story in a foreign language. It is over 40 years since I wrote anything of any length in French.

has anyone done a master slave story set in summer. The idea of someone with a sunburn being whipped gives me the chills

I think i will enter a story for this. i haven't given any of the contests a try so why not.

Sunburn....whip.....shiver!

saw an entry about a Muppet love fest....it's been done. It's called 'Meet the Feebles.'

Off topic but there seems be a glitch or something with the incest stories today. There are a bunch of new stories in the hubris (dated for today) that don't appear on the New List. And one story (bus w/ mom and sis) have over 500,000 views listed on the bottom despite being posted just today.

Yes, 509198 views at present. And the story has, well, let's say some grammar problems. And plausibility problems. That particular author seems to have quite a few stories so maybe the system added up all his views over all stories or something?

One of the comments said something like "why did you change it?" so maybe it's an edit, and the views are from before.

Does an edited story appear on the "New Story List?" I have never checked when I submitted an edited version. Check the posting date on the author's index. That does not change when an edited version is posted.

Lit. does not post the total views for an author under any one story, except maybe by accident. Some of us would have 100,000,000 total or more.

The post date on the author's page is 08/06/12 (today basically).

Ditto for this comment:

dont write again... just give it up

this is the worst story I have ever read...

But another comment:

It seemed a bit rushed. Enjoyable, but it could have done for being more stretched out.

was dated: 09/28/04

So, like, almost 8 years ago.

So something funny is going on. The number of views is currently 509198, same as when I posted before.

I live in the permanent summer of the Caribbean; but I do not have a clue about what I will write.

:(
