Total Recall, no shit, it's already time to remake Total Recall...

Kurt Loder is now telling me that I can look forward to a remake of RoboCop...

they just did Planet of the Apes for the 10th time.....Hollywood is dead is what's what. I wonder if Stallone is pitching Rocky 10?

Darren Aronofsky was tied to a Robocop remake for a long time before that project was killed. I'm surprised to see they are going with a documentary filmmaker to direct. Usually when an auteur type like Aronofsky departs a project you'll expect to see a hack like Brett Ratner or McG ushered in. Not so this time it seems.

On the broader topic I guess I hardly mind remakes, only so much as they eat up the landscape for more original films. But the movie business is hard to enjoy anymore, just like a lot of the movies it produces. Maybe it's time for what ever the new incarnation of indie is to bubble out.

As for Total Recall, we'll always have the Verhoeven one.

Robocop was so long ago, it could use an update...aka Iron Man, could be good and if its not being pitched in Hollywood, I might call a meeting....

Kind of funny, some kids today, 23 and under, don't know the original movie, hence, Apes, Robocop, etc, all new to these kids....

What get's up my nose more is when original material is stricken from existence, like what Disney did with Song of the South or what Lucas does with Star Wars.

Total Recall is the best Arnold movie that isn't regularly recycled through HBO, Cinemax, Starz and the rest. I haven't seen it in years and I would enjoy seeing it again.

i used to feel that way about 'red dawn', but then they put it in heavy rotation for about a year and now i think it's stupid again :(

the trailer for 'total recall' looks cool, and kate beckinsale is hawt, so...

I guess I'm the only person who found the Iron Man movie to be kind of flat. So bring on the remake.

It's true about newer generations though. And many times the remakes end up being something really great...Cape Fear, Scarface, The Fly, Ocean's 11, The Italian Job.....The Thomas Crown Affair.

It's when they supremely suck. The latest Planet of the Apes didn't even make logical sense, not to mention they already told the "Rise of.." story in the original series of films.
The newer Clash of the Titans pales next to the one from the 80's.

What's weird is that it looks like a "Bladerunner" remake more than a "Total Recall" remake.

They took out Mars...but left the three boobs.

I think if something stands well on its own, leave it the fuck alone.

I cringe when people try to remake David Bowie.

In this case, Total Recall as a movie is almost unwatchable. I'm so used to seamless CGI now that it's just...really bad...

But on the other hand, I can't forgive Colin for what he did to one of my favorite movies - Fright Night. And I can't believe they took out the whole Mars thing.

What I always remember about it is the humor. That era of action films had a wonderful sense of humor while still having a solid story and clever likable characters.
Who didn't laugh when the guy tells Michael Ironsides, "I wouldn't want a guy like Quaid porkin' my old lady."
"You sayin' she liked it?"
"NOOOooo. I'm sure she hated every minute of it."

Or the one that always made me bust out:
Tony says, "You gotta lotta nerve showin' yer face around here pal."
Quad says with a smile, "Look who's talking" to the guy whose face looks like an egg white omlette.

You didn't like Fright Night?? I had fun with that...I can't even say if i saw the OG or not though.

I just imagined a remake of Labyrinth and it broke my heart even to consider it.

A fairly recent instance where terrible, terrible CGI didn't ruin a movie for me: the original Swedish version of Let the Right One In. There's a scene with a mob of cats that looks ripped from an early 90s computer game. Speaking of, they should be making THOSE into movies. I would watch the hell out of some King's Quest or Leisure Suit Larry. Bahaha.

Hi Reci!!

I'd probably have liked it more if the original hadn't been so beloved to me.

They ruined the characters and took all the humor and humanity out of it.

The effects were better, sure, but I couldn't even finish watching it, I was offended.

Don't ruin my memories of silly trashy horror, Colin!

Oh HELL no! Nobody can remake Labyrinth. You'd be stomping on Henson, Monty Python and Bowie. That's a justifiable homicide. I was deeply offended by the remake of "Sweeney Todd" also because the only guy that could sing anywhere near a Sondheim standard without mutilating the music was Sasha Baron Cohen. Imagine him being the most respectful in the cast... I'd seen it on Broadway with the original cast and I was driven out of the room by them mutilating the soundtrack. I forced everybody present to watch YouTube clips of Angela Lansbury and Len Cariou. Certain things require talent, not just fame.

Hah. I played all of the King's Quest series and the Leisure Suit Larry series. Of course, there wasn't much else to do at the time as far as games went.

Hi Back! :)

Great Movie. I couldn't stay awake for the US remake though I hear it's not so bad. I can't even say I recall the cats so it must not have even registered with me. I tend to pick movies apart technically when they aren't working thematically for me.

They're remaking Red Dawn....I just heard that

It's hard to believe they brought back Dallas until you find out how popular it is in thrid-world countries...

I heard it sucks! no need to make a remake of Total Recall
