What happened to all of the doom and gloom economic threads?

True, I should have phrased that comment better.

He won't answer the question, which will just prove my point. So he either has to ignore it, dance another jig proving he is just a troll, or take a stance. No matter what he does I win.

What's funny is right after he ascribes me a position and refuses to back it up he goes and accuses me, or vette, or anyone, of doing the same thing to him.

Talk up the economy?

NO! I never talked up the economy!

Oh, so you're in the same boat as us rw'ers?

OH NOES! I don't want America to fail!

We're doing exceptionally well if you consider how bad it COULD HAVE BEEN!

Okay, so we're doing fine!

I NEVER SAID THAT! QUOTE ME!

Stop putting words in my mouth!

It was you and vette who use words like collapse and disaster and won't give me a time frame or take a bet or do anything grown up and to prove it, I'm going to hold my breath until you tell me when your predictions are going to come true...

I bitched about Bush for six years, and through all that time the Republicans on this board never trashed me the way the Democrats do now that "their guy" is "in charge."

They were angry when Bush was President, but they seem even more angry now that Obama is President.

Maybe it's just disappointment.

Maybe, it's who they really are and have been all along.

Common merc, where did you go buddy?

Because I wouldn't want you to miss this, I'll post it again.

Just a question, do you ever actually argue any point's or are you just one of those trolls that will ONLY dissect and criticize semantics, logic and dance around the actual message others are trying to communicate without ever really saying anything of any value?

I mean if you are trying to be a troll then kudos....people who study communications, logic and philosophy are truly the elite trolls of the world, but they are still trolls.

So what is it?

A) Are you a partisan hack claiming the economy is booming due to the savior Obama and his magical economic prowess?

B) Are you like most people who have their heads out of their ass and that think we only stopped the tail spin, and despite a SLIGHT improvement the economy is pretty stagnant and not really going anywhere at the moment?

C) are you a righty hack who thinks the sky is falling and the only way to fix it is to put anything with an R in front of it's name in office?

D) are you just formally educated in the ways of the troll and use lit to keep the skills sharp?

Just pick a letter that best applies to you....and feel free to convey or explain any of your stances on the current economic situation here in the good ol' US of A.

Frizzle, you served after high school and now grow and smoke pot all day. Your understanding of economics is limited to weighing dime sacks for high school chicks.

The data show that conservatives do indeed see the free enterprise system in a sunnier light than liberals do, believing in each American’s ability to get ahead on the basis of achievement. Liberals are more likely to see people as victims of circumstance and oppression, and doubt whether individuals can climb without governmental help. My own analysis using 2005 survey data from Syracuse University shows that about 90 percent of conservatives agree that “While people may begin with different opportunities, hard work and perseverance can usually overcome those disadvantages.” Liberals — even upper-income liberals — are a third less likely to say this.

So conservatives are ignorant, and ignorance is bliss, right? Not so fast, according to a study from the University of Florida psychologists Barry Schlenker and John Chambers and the University of Toronto psychologist Bonnie Le in the Journal of Research in Personality. These scholars note that liberals define fairness and an improved society in terms of greater economic equality. Liberals then condemn the happiness of conservatives, because conservatives are relatively untroubled by a problem that, it turns out, their political counterparts defined.

This is an honest effort, but a effort in futility......

Not even sure Merc is smart enough to recognize his own actions for what they are.

Name one person on Lit that keeps insisting that the economy is doing fine. Or are you just lying again?

You guys seem to debate every single piece of negative news. 86,000 jobs created, "yeah but"..... I mean, which is it? The economy is not doing well or it is doing well?

Love to hear this one...

How bout, it sucks, but its improving.

I debate posters who insist that the economy is worse then it was 4 years ago. Even Mitt isn't saying things are worse.

That presupposes you consider 86,000 jobs to be "negative news". My understanding the job estimate was to be 100,000 jobs, plus or minus 20,000. Job forecasting is by definition more art than science, hence the wide tolerance.

Nevertheless, the "accentuate the negative" krewe (led by the Vettebigot), immediately started the chant of "disaster disaster disaster" once the news came out.

I have yet to see rioting in the streets.

WASHINGTON -- Americans are growing more pessimistic about the economy and handling it remains President Barack Obama's weak spot and biggest challenge in his bid for a second term, according to a new Associated Press-GfK poll.

And the gloomier outlook extends across party lines, including a steep decline in the share of Democrats who call the economy "good," down from 48 percent in February to just 31 percent now.

The last time the economy went this long at 8% unemplyment was the Depression and the Democrats were in charge then to and their answer was spend baby spend, just like today.

Stupidity is doing the same thing and expecting different results...
Unemployment during the Depression was more than twice as high as it is now. So of course, it makes perfect sense to draw a comparison to the past few years.

That's a good question...but it is more complicated than any news clip will ever portray because 99% of the population would not be able to comprehend an in depth analysis. I sure as shit couldn't. Damn it Jim I'm a biologist not an accountant! :D

So all I can do is observe whats going on around me in my local neck of the woods and compare what I observe to what the news puts out and try to make sense of it. Just like most people.

Given that, if you live in CA/MI or some other state that is hanging by a fiscal thread your perception is going to be vastly different than someone living in Houston for example which is blowing up and has money flowing so fast they don't know what to do with it all.

From where I'm sitting things are not as bad as 08, and they are improving...but at a snails pace. Which tells me capital hill better tread carefully or the economy in general could go into another tail spin and then the party will really be over.

How bout, it sucks, but its improving.

+1

We won't see the full effects of everything the BHO administration,

Good point. I live in Houston, and as part of a restructuring HP laid off a shit-ton of mid-level project managers.....who were largely absorbed into the local economy within a month.

The Obama administration's "dirty little secret", if you will, is that the economic recovery has been varying wildly on a state-by-state basis. Fortunately for the Obama adminstration, most of the so-called "swing" states (Ohio, Florida, Pennsylvania) are doing much better than the national average, which does not bode well for Rmoney.

This is very true. Plus the elected officials in those states ( I believe most are republican) know that their reelection hinges on voters thinking the local economy is improving under their watch, so they are being very vocal about how things are looking up. Which doesnt help the "things are worse now" narrative.

Yea TX is rockin'....and I agree about the swing states. What I think *could* counter that though is some of the usually blue states but not super blue states that aren't doing as well as places like TX/OH/FL being convinced that a RINO might not be so bad.

Who knows....it's still anyone's game and a lot can happen in 5 months.

Me I'll stick with the devil I know, I don't see Romney as being any less of a conniving fuck than Obama, he's worse....a flip flop pandering politician for sale to the highest bidder.

Wait, what? Talk about flip-flopping! Back in 2004, then-Senator Obama attacked George W. Bush for creating 310,000. Today, he is boasting about 80,000 jobs being a “step in the right direction.“
