Obligatory Oscar Thread

I watched the first half hour, The Walking Dead came on and now I find myself not really giving a shit about Oscar. I used to like the Oscars a lot, never missed them. Now it's somewhat rare for the most deserving to win or even get nominated. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close? Fucking really? Did anyone like that movie? They've become a bad copy of the Peoples Choice Awards.

That's a lot of fapping. I approve.

It's okay to admit that you're gaga over fashion. We're a very accepting bunch.
Without exaggeration, I'm pretty sure the last time I watched was when Steve Martin hosted, maybe ten years ago. If Jon Stewart hosted after him, it's possible I watched part of that year.

Billy Crystal? Edgy choice! Plus, we have no TV, so if I want to watch something live, I have to stream it--meaning, it has to be stream-worthy. You, Oscars, are not stream-worthy.

Gotta be fair to Crystal, I'm not a fan of him normally but he really is a great Oscar host. Maybe the best. He's not edgy but he's reliable.
Also the original choice was Eddie Murphy but he was forced out.

*snerk* I can't believe they got away with that.

Next up, Genuine sincerity, real life tears of joy, are contagious.

That's understandable. It's also awesome that you don't have TV.

The show has always been a big deal for me. I don't think I've ever missed it.

Billy's funny and sweet. I'm always happy to see him host. I'm trying to remember what happened with Eddie...

I actually remember reading something about that many months ago. They changed producers or directors or something, and Eddie was that person's choice and had to go too in the trade.

I think Eddie opted out because Brett Ratner was asked to resign as director after using homophobic slurs.

I was rooting for Martin Scorsese for Best Director but knew the guy who can barely speak English would win for 'The Artist'...

If only 'The Artist' fell under Best Foreign Language Film - haha about Language, though.

I thought they cut out the "remember the ones we lost" segment a few years back?

What always got me about those is that they'd have a half dozen or so that only Hollywood people knew and left everyone else going "who?" and then they'd forget another couple that everyone knew and when called on it the answer was always "we didn't have time."

You didn't have time to find a picture of a famous person?
