When the state steps in to be the loving, approving parent, then who needs two parents, or standards? As Doctors Williams and Sowell continue to point out, the African-American community was not always like this, not always hostile to education. Simply being poor and having "social problems" is not the dismissive answer, but a clarion call, from the Left, for more government intervention in the lives of its citizenry and that call is always met from the expertise of the theorists in academia which present to us utopian blueprints of understanding, tolerance and diversity. We might, instead, try listening to their religious leaders, tell them to pull their pants up and make a commitment to their families...

Dead on, other than the fact that there really is no such thing as an African-American community. (Well, except for those folks that have recently immigrated from Africa.)

Of course the black community, particularly the urban black community, blame all of these problems on 'whitey.' And to a great extent they're right. In the post desegregation days the black communities were flooded with well meaning liberal white activists, as a matter of fact you can still see them hanging around today. Anyway, these activists promoted alternative culture, history, etc. More importantly they vilified the white culture as the primary cause of the black condition. Not surprisingly many up and coming black activists jumped on the band wagon of hate finding the the fares they charged others in the community could be profitable to them as individuals.

The fomenting of this hatred provided those in the black community that bought into the party line a reason not to succeed, a reason not to strive to overcome the obstacles in their path. And there were many obstacles, prejudice was quite real and the black applicant for any position had to be just a little better than his/her white peers to secure a position. So rather than try a little harder many just quit trying and started demanding.

What Dr. Williams, Dr. Sowell, Bill Cosby, and other blacks are saying to their communities are "heal thy self." No government program is going to cure the ills of the black community, no amount of money or legions of social workers. The cure for the problems of the black community have to come from within the black community itself. Outside intervention only perpetuates the attitudes that have proven so disastrous to the black family and community.

All of this was more or less known over a century and a half ago. It's too bad the 'do gooders' didn't read, or understand.

I'm reading a history of the Kansas/Missouri Strife, and, sure as shit, the author writes about how prosperous Cherokees were in the Indian Nation. Same in Florida. Plenty of Indians had plantations and wealth.

Most of the time. My bunch roosted in the local swamp forever till the state paid them a bozillion bux for the water rights. Never seen so many new pickups! and trailers.
 
I garden, and I have 4 dogs. One of my dogs is blind.

What I notice is, if veggies and dogs have what they need theyll be what theyre supposed to be.

If a child stays on the street till midnight, lives in a crazee house, and goes to school tired and frazzled, he aint likely to run with the big dogs.

Yep. I used to tell my clients that effective psychotherapy destroys the worlds they live in, and it does. Most people cannot make the transition from shitbird to squared away.

i know this may be hard for you to believe but obama is hardly a liberal and certainly not a socialist. he is, like the vast majority of the democratic party, a conciliatory moderate who leans conservative under the slightest political pressure.

I would pay thousands of socialist Comradollars to see the expression on your face if we ever elect an actually liberal president.
