What about the tens of thousands of nuclear missiles the US/Russia constantly have pointed at each other?

World War 3 won't be fought with tanks and soldiers.

How would they get their ships/aircraft/infantry/armored divisions across the Pacific and Atlantic oceans?

Same way we did, in WWII: By ship. And by getting their ships past or through the U.S. Navy. Which means Russia or China can't do it until they first establish naval superiority over the U.S., which won't be easy, as we have quite a head start, and (presumably) the world's (now) second-greatest navy, the Royal Navy, as a permanent ally. And Russia still has no year-round-warm-water deep-ocean port in its territory. And China has never in all its history (except for a brief episode of exploration) been a sea power, they'd be breaking new ground here.

What about the 24/7 radar surveillance and naval/aerial patrols the US military has going on at all times?

Wouldn't we notice countless thousands of Chinese/Russian planes, warships, and other military devices making their long journey across the pacific and/or the atlantic oceans?

If they disabled the US power grid via EMP, the US could easily be invaded by a foreign army.

This hypothetical event would probably end in a nuclear exchange long before either army actually saw combat.

Tens of thousands of thermonuclear weapons and ICBM's and Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) is what kept a US/USSR ground war from occurring after WW2. I would imagine that same rule holds true even today.

Yes. Which means the element of surprise won't be available, they can't do it at all unless their ships can lick our ships.

The military has lots of backups, because it thinks in terms of disaster preparedness. The system that evolved into the Internet was invented mainly to facilitate military and government communication after a nuclear attack.

You're talking about DARPA-net?

How would they be able to mobilize the entire military and prepare them for combat/war given only a days notice or so? Do you have any idea what it takes to fully prepare the army for war?

Satellites wouldn't be affected by EMP's.

as long as the average american can own a gun, no country can take it over physically.
ideologically, yes. nuclear destruction, but they wouldn't be able to occupy it or use its resources.
maybe by creating the right kind of nuke, and detonating it high enough in the atmosphere or just outside of it over the country in an EMP attack would fry everything electrical made after 1974. forcing the continent back to the 1700's. then use your imagination from there. the possiblities are endless.

The US government is going to use the military against the American people after the global economic collapse and mass-rioting/civil unrest takes place.

The president will enact the emergency powers/executive orders and continuity of government programs, martial law will declared nation-wide, VIP's will be transported to the CoG sites, roundup and mass-detention of civilians will ensue, gun confiscations, GARDENPLOT combat operations, REX84, Operation Lantern Spike, Operation Overview, etc...

The criminally-hijacked US military and government will declare war against it's own people and not a foreign power in a totalitarian coup d'etat. This is the government's ultimate excuse to utterly eliminate it's political opponents and transform America into a brutal totalitarian state.

All of this has been carefully orchestrated to further the agendas of the shady powers that be which run most of the world.

The US government/military has been hijacked by foreign international banking cartels and giant mega-corporations.

if ground systems and powergrid are fried from EMP, it would be nothing for russia to take out every american satellite it wants. the more you over think the plumbing the easier it is to stop up the sink.

further thought, if a country did an emp attack, this would defeat them ideologically since most people would have some idea of what happened, and who did it.
keep a horse around just in case. and lots of ammo.

something like that couldn't be hidden from the people. impossible. when a surviving citizen of nazi germany says, well, we didn't know, is a total crock of shit.

Civil unrest will be met with deadly force under these programs. An armed insurrection performed by civilians is impossible given the size, strength, and resources of the US military.

No, but the generals and officers do, and they drill the combat troops to be combat-ready at a moment's notice, and everybody else to be ready to get things in general moving at a moment's notice, etc. Is my understanding. And remember, the U.S. Defense Department spend the entire Cold War preparing for total war-mobilization at a moment's notice; they have experience in the concept.

I attended a terrorism seminar recently, put on by a regional big-wheel from Homeland Security. The threat of an EMP is virtually unknown by most, but is probably the most danger we face. As an earlier poster mentioned, it would take our society back to the 1700s. That would almost instantly destroy our country.
Imagine no vehicles made in the past dozen or so years workable, no electricity, no water. Imagine the civil unrest this would cause. I cornered the guy after the talk, and asked him what in the hell could one do to protect his family. His answer "have plenty of food and water, and enough ammo for your guns."

Interestingly, the country he was most worried about was Iran. They are already experimenting with missiles, detonating some at apogee. And, we all know they are working on nuclear weapons. It would be pretty easy to get a ship close enough to the US for a mid-range missile to be used.

I think the Russians/Chinese might have a leg up if they catch us off guard.

After WW2, Winston Churchill wanted to re-arm the German military to fight the Soviet Union in a ground war.

Too bad the Rushkies got their hands on the atom bomb before this was possible.

Apparently the Manhattan project was INFESTED with Soviet spies right from the very beginning.

Is it possible for a military superpower such as Russia or China to declare war upon, and physically invade the continental United States with their armies in a conventional warfare ground invasion?

How would they get their ships/aircraft/infantry/armored divisions across the Pacific and Atlantic oceans?

What is the US was actually defeated in this hypothetical war?

Short answer. No

A bit longer answer. Do you have any idea of the number of tanks, IFVs, artillery pieces and troops make up one single heavy armored division? China? Not a chance. Russia easier but, still no.

Taking a chance on nuclear war? Assume they bomb us back the the stone age what is their advantage? It will not be a one way exchange. China and Russia would take major hits on their industrial and financial centers. That would set them back for many years. Still no advantage to them.

I would suggest before you decide you read and believe the doomsday crap on the net you learn to do Algebra. Until you accomplish that task. Piss off.

This is a ludicrous thread Mike.

No nation on earth has the capability of bringing a "conventional" war to the continental United States.

The matter is not worthy of further comment.

Russia and China do not need to INVADE the USA......

In the near future they will OWN it......

think about it... just for a little while...

and then think a little more....

this is where the lessons of vietnam are learned. america can not be defeated in a nose to nose fight. look at hussein. in a guerilla war, its a long process of attrition to win. no matter how long. america can stick a smart bomb up a camels ass. but it is very very expensive. and people get tired of footing the bill. they want it quick even if it costs thousands if not millions of lives to do it.
afghanistan is the same thing. and in a way iraq too.
if america starts killing off its own enmass, its gonna piss a lot of people off. whether its in the name of crowd control or not.
