learned that if I respond, even if its
just to say no thanks, the men seem to

I respond to all PM's even if not interested.

I think it's a common gesture of courtesy to acknowledge someone who's trying to start a conversation with you.

Even if you just say 'not interested', it's more polite then ignoring someone.

I think there is a difference between conversational PM and for lack of better terms the 90%. It sucks that people get flooded by PM's that they don't want or haven't invited and in no way are they obligated to respond to any PM, but for those who are actually trying to make connections and relationships it only hurts them.

Its the way the world works, no need to take it to personally. Where one PM closes, another might be full of intelligence, chatter and sexy wit.
