Was it okay for miles to post someone's personal information without their permission? No.

Was it lame to start a drama llama poll about it? Yes.

Posting Personal Information is Lit:

Incognito did it before becoming a new name.
LovingTongue did it to Ishmael and brags about it being 'duty'.
Miles did it to Rob.
Killswitch did it to Blacksnake
Rob uses personal information to attack AJ.
Karen did it to Kippies.
Funkenstein did it to Killswitch.
Nipples did it to Powersemen.
Powersemen threatened to do it to Luke.
Sonny did it to Ken/karen.
Hanns did it to anyone he could find.
We had the BoobsNBrains/Taltos scandal.

and these are just the examples I can remember without research.

Each time people jumped on a bandwagon according to their "lit associations" and piled it on.

My feeling is that the only time you may post personal information is when specifically directed to do so by the person whose information you are revealing, and even then it should be done with the knowledge that you are permanently putting their information in the hands of people whose actions put them among the worst of humanity.

Quite a good bit of knowledge for someone who just joined. Pull down your skirt, I can see your alt. (dunno why, but I'm getting a jinxed vibe from you. I could be wrong, and I hope I am)

As for the question, it depends. If he spent hours digging based upon minor details posted over the years, he's an asshole. If he illuminated what was there for all to see had they wanted to look, so be it.

This is not a sacred place, folks.

I do not know enough about the situation to commit but posting someone's personal information or linking to it is irresponsible at best and almost certainly against the rules here.

Or should be.

If a member of their family or themselves were harmed in any way from the posting or linking, I would think civil or legal action would be in order.

Possibly an ass kicking or killing.

I saw a pic of a screenshot that had the poster's real name on it. He quickly took it down, but I remember the name. I think it would be wrong for me to reveal it, even though he did.

Define personal. Are we talking personal but publicly available, or personal, with every attempt being made to keep it private?

No, it's not okay. It's against the terms of service to post personal information, with or without permission. Which is why Sonny's thread was removed, as well it should.

That being said, sometimes the law is a ass.

There's no way to put the toothpaste back in the tube.

I learned quickly to avoid Sonny, and other Lit posters with obvious insecurities.

Not just miles.

Anybody.

I agree.

She's got it.

Link?

LOL. It's not Jinxy.

Actually, it sort of is.

I've been around the Internets a few times, and this is actually the only place on it where the idea of freedom of speech, the idea that the First Amendment to the US Constitution attempts to protect, means anything at all.

This is basically it.

Go to another forum, post someone's personal information, and then come back and tell us all how much more free things are over there.

You people ought to stop acting like spoiled kids and start appreciating what's here. "Outing" people is not what free speech is about. It's about being able to say "fuck you and the horse you rode in on" without having the word "fuck" become "****"

"Oh, but wait, I can't post my mortal enemy's name and address!" — Oh, bloody hell. Don't get so godammed wrapped up in the discourse that you want to actually physically harm someone. That's insane. LT went that way seven years ago and has probably been posting here from the confines of a mental institution since.

His dumbest move was faking his own death by posting as if it were a friend of his saying he died choking on a peanut. Way to help your already trashed credibility, you idiot.

But, were any of his deceptive threads deleted for that reason? No. And he's still here, trying to bullshit people.

Now... he's just a clown in the circus. People figured out his act.

Had Laurel not appointed me Moderator of the GB, Lord knows how things might have turned out.

I'm not aware of the situation but I think personal info should be kept private. if any thing needs to be known it should come from the people themselves.

The question isn't simple. It all depends on what the information was, how they got it, etc.
Far as I'm concerned, if someone puts the info out there then you can't complain when it's found.
I don't know how Miles got what he got but he's not the sharpest knife in the dishwasher so I'm guessing it was out there and easy to find.

I never posted his personal info.

I only posted a picture of his face from 40 years ago, when he was 17.

I never posted his name. Never posted his phone number. Never posted his address.

You're thinking of Memphis Man.

Him and Rob have a common friend.

Do try to keep up.
