The Cool Science Stuff Thread

Right, that's sick!

Self-repair and self-manufacture is a big part of the whole "robots take over the world" thing.

These short sighted young nerds, computer wizards and engineers keeping egging the Singularity on. It's almost as if they think they'll get special treatment.

That won't stop NASA from trying to check it out, LOL even if the probe takes 600 years to get there.
Nothing but radio signals could travel there at light speed.

Light travels about 5.9 trillion miles per year.

So this planet, at 600 light-years away, is 3.5 quadrillion miles from earth.

Voyager 1 exited the solar system at 38,000 mph. The fastest man-made object is the Helios 2 solar probe at 157,000 mph. Let's be optimistic and say we could send a probe at 500,000 mph. At that speed, it would take 803,520 years to reach its destination (plus 600 years to receive the data from it).

It would be a complete waste of time and money to even attempt it.

Unless some sort of time-space bend or hole is employed.
