What happened to all of the doom and gloom economic threads?

Maybe the child is losing his zeal for destroying the American economy by advancing the environmental agenda.

Obama halts controversial EPA regulation

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama on Friday scrapped his administration's controversial plans to tighten smog rules, bowing to the demands of congressional Republicans and some business leaders.

Obama overruled the Environmental Protection Agency and directed administrator Lisa Jackson to withdraw the proposed regulation to reduce concentrations of smog's main ingredient, in part because of the importance of reducing regulatory burdens and uncertainty for businesses at a time of rampant uncertainty about an unsteady economy.

Anything for a few votes. :)

You should tell S&P to revise their report detailing why they downgraded the U.S. Credit rating. They obviously didn't get your memo.

Hey man, how's the pool boy/boiler business going there in Florida? The fact that you're here today (Friday) means that there's a chance that the layoff bug got you. Layed off and still shilling for the democrats destruction of the economy, my, you are loyal to a fault. If you're just taking a day off like me for the long weekend, then have a great weekend.

If you are layed off, I am sincerely sorry. It's really a rough time and with this economy the way it is, there's not many alternatives. If you want to know why I'm so adamant about the debt, the democrat policies and the whole leadership, it's because millions of guys like you who really care (though sometimes misguided) are getting screwed by the decisions and policies that the democrats are following. If they'd really reduced spending and came up with a practical approach to dealing with spending, debt and the economy, we'd probably start seeing increased action in the economy and layoffs would slow and we'd start seeing new jobs appearing. Despite your political differences with me, it is people like you I'm most worried about and am trying to help.

They downgraded because they couldn't see any reconcilation. The democrats were intransiegent about wanting tax increases and only superficial spending reductions and the republicans wouldn't go along with tax increases. The problem is too much spending and the dems wouldn't reconcile and the republicans wouldn't roll over for them. It's pretty simple actually.

We are just going to have to sort out this debate during the election and we'll end up in one of two directions...firmly on the path to a social-democrat debtor nation with a rapidly declining economic base or we'll spark back to what made our country great in the first place: individuality, limited government and economic dynamism.

Congratulations. Your government has regulated the economy to death.

The tort attorneys have sued everybody for every conceivable activity. The only thing you're allowed to do in the U.S. is shuffle paper, deliver pizzas, make noise and file lawsuits.

Everything else violates EPA regulations or the minimum wage law or OSHA regulations or the Clean Air Act or the Equal Housing Act or the ADA or Sarbanes-Oxley or causes global warming.

What EPA, OSHA, or other restrictions has the government put in place in the last 4 years that have caused businesses to fail?

Why would anybody want to locate a business in such an anti-business climate? Every entrepreneur I know says they wouldn't take the chance of starting a business today when some tinhorn bureaucrat or tort lawyer or regulator is waiting to shut you down for violating minimum wage laws or OSHA or ADA or Sarbanes-Oxley or EPA or global warming or something. The effin' lawyers will sue you at the drop of a hat for any conceivable reason. The bureaucrats and the regulators hassle you to death.

Nobody will manufacture anything here because there's a bureaucrat regulator or a tort lawyer everywhere you look just waiting to slap you with a fine or accuse you of violating minimum wage laws or environmental laws. Hell the dummies have already held up construction of the Keystone XL pipeline. They've made it impossible to drill in the Gulf. They've hassled the Marcellus Shale drillers ( and won't let 'em drill in N.Y., at all). They won't let anybody drill ANWR. They want to impose a 50 mpg fuel consumption minimum. They've forced the U.S. to export coal rather than use it ourselves. They've wrecked the tobacco business.

You didn't answer the question.

mr. simpleton, its not about business failing, its about business not investing or being gun shy to expand/invest.

even msnbc talks about the 10 billion of regulations the regime has put into place in the past couple of months.

please, your ignorance is shining through like a star going supernova
(pst, not a good thing)

Since 1948, the oldest data BLS has, there have been 46 months in which the unemployment rate has been 9% or higher. Twenty six of them have occurred during the 31 months of the Obama administration.

Instead of running on the theme of Hope and Change, Obama can run on the theme of More in 2012: More unemployment, More government, More debt, and More guns for the Mexican drug cartels.

The unemployment figure of “9.1%” is the media-agreed-upon figure from the Procrustes Economics Institute™. Procrustes, you will recall, is the ogre-innkeeper in the story of Theseus who had a remarkable bed that fit everyone—because if any of his guest hung over the edge of the bed, he lopped it off.

The “9.1%” figure has remained reasonably constant because, like Procrustes, those reporting on unemployment constantly lop off from the unemployment figures those who have totally dropped out of the work force, and those who are no longer unemployed because they are underemployed, i.e., cannot find jobs comparable to the ones they lost and so have taken lower-level jobs simply to have some vestige of income.

The “9.1%” is bad enough so that the media look as if they are reporting something with a nexus to reality—they are admitting the economy is bad—but nevertheless conceals the true magnitude of the disaster which Obama’s economic policies, spending, and legislation have visited upon the country.

So do not look for this figure to get worse any time soon; it is the agreed-upon fiction that will be maintained by persistent Procrustes activity, and will remain largely the same, regardless of reality, unless and until the unlikely event that there is a major improvement that can be credibly trumpeted.

The DOW continues to soar in a pre_Labor Day celebration.

maybe someone in the whitehouse or on staff that knows about job creation would help

Bleak jobs report draws fire
Politicians and economists had plenty to say after hearing that no new jobs were created in August.

Zero jobs created in August. The stunning news roiled the markets Friday, firing up politicians and sending economists scrambling to make sense of it all.
