The Bankrupt United States of America

note to pure...

zeb In other news the Triple A rating of the United States by Moody's has been downgraded to Double A.

Pure: not true as of 4:14 EDT. from Moody's website, labelled 22 mins ago,

. Moody's Places US Aaa Government Bond Rating and Related Ratings on Review for Possible Downgrade ...

btw both Japan and Canada have lost AAA rating, without greatly detrimental effects. several commentators have pointed to the problem that the US bonds are a last resort security for the world. to whom would the Chinese sell them? would they unload lots of them and drive down their value.

China Joins Russia in Blasting U.S. Borrowing After Debt Ceiling Agreement
By Bloomberg News - Aug 3, 2011

China, the largest foreign investor in U.S. government securities, joined Russia in criticizing American policy makers for failing to ensure borrowing is reined in after a stopgap deal to raise the nation’s debt limit.

People’s Bank of China Governor Zhou Xiaochuan said China’s central bank will monitor U.S. efforts to tackle its debt, and state-run Xinhua News Agency blasted what it called the “madcap” brinksmanship of American lawmakers. Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said two days ago that the U.S. is in a way “leeching on the world economy.”

The comments reflect concern that the U.S. may lose its AAA sovereign rating after President Barack Obama and Congress put off decisions on spending cuts and tax increases to assure enactment of a boost in borrowing authority. China and Russia, holding a total $1.28 trillion of Treasuries, have lost nothing so far in the wake of a rally in the securities this year.

...China held $1.16 trillion of Treasuries as of May, U.S. Treasury Department data show....

****

...Xinhua said the move “failed to defuse Washington’s debt bomb for good,” in a commentary dated yesterday.

Standard & Poor’s indicated last week that anything less than $4 trillion in deficit cuts would jeopardize its AAA rating for the U.S. The measure enacted by Obama yesterday threatens automatic spending cuts to enforce $2.4 trillion in spending reductions over the next 10 years...

...“They are living beyond their means and transferring part of the problems onto the world economy,” Putin told a youth camp at Lake Seliger outside Moscow Aug. 1. “In a way, they are leeching on the world economy.”...

****

...The Xinhua commentary said that the higher debt ceiling and plans to reduce spending were not enough to make any sizable dent in the nation’s fiscal burden. It referred to a “madcap farce of brinksmanship” before the agreement was reached....

Aug. 3 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. airlines led by United Continental Holdings Inc. may pocket $1.3 billion in higher fares in response to the Federal Aviation Administration's partial shutdown. The FAA already has been unable to collect $28.6 million a day in aviation taxes since midnight on July 22, and that may continue through Labor Day. Bloomberg's Megan Hughes reports on "InBusiness with Margaret Brennan." (Source: Bloomberg)

The FAA already has been unable to collect $28.6 million a day in aviation taxes since midnight on July 22. Missed receipts may climb by $1 billion if the matter remains unresolved until lawmakers reconvene in September, FAA Administrator Randy Babbitt said. President Barack Obama today urged congressional leaders to reach a resolution this week.

-------------------------

So they pass the bill to raise the debt ceiling and go on vacation! WTF? They cry nobody pays their fair share and here they go, trotting off on whatever beach they are going to have illicit sex on and say fuck the U.S. they don't need no stinking $1.3 billion in taxes that are would be due if we just stayed a little long and worked on a funding deal for the FAA...noooooo, my little fucking vacation is more fucking important than the thousands of people out of work, the thousands losing their home because they're out of work.

I do hope the airlines finally show a profit because of this.

What a bunch of dumbasses.

REPORT: U.S. Military Spending Has Almost Doubled Since 2001
By Judd Legum on Apr 11, 2011 at 10:00 am

A new report released today by SIPRI, a Swedish-based think tank, reveals that U.S. military spending has almost doubled since 2001. The U.S. spent an astounding $698 billion on the military last year, an 81% increase over the last decade.

I've been mostly gone for the last three or four months, and you're still bitching and moaning about the same goddamn thing you were bitching and moaning about months ago.

Just shut the fuck up already. I know you don't remember you said the same f'ing thing, with the same f'ing words five minutes ago, but you did...and it was just as tiresome then.

You realize, I hope, that you're the biggest part of the reason so many people left, and rarely post. Not just me, I don't give a shit about what you say, but several that you've called "friend" are gone because of you and those like you.

I bet you're real proud of yourself. Most idiots are.

And my dearest Cloudy, I seem to remember your bitches about the same thing back in 2008, 2009, so shut the fuck up, it's my turn now.

Go away little girl, you bother the patrons of this here establishment.

Same old shit, same old Cloudy, talk about tiresome.

I just wish some of those so-called representatives, in the Congress or wherever they inhabit, would realise that there's as whole world outside the boundaries of the USA and what they do should not be detrimental to the RoW.
Sad, but they appear to be too bloody selfish to take part in a global economy.

When the rest of the world cries out "sort your bloody taxes out you idiots", they sit with their brains in neutral worrying about their next holiday.
That a lot of voters are getting thrown out of their homes seems to pass them by ("Oh, that's sad. What's for dinner, Darling?")

HP,

With respect, have you ever tried to get 5 people to agree on something? "Herding cats" doesn't even close to describing how frustrating an experience that is. Now, multiply that by 50× ( half of 539 people, all of whom are being screamed at by 300 million second-guessers and back seat drivers ).

I have a first hand acquaintance with one of those 539 people. He ( and his family ) has no privacy or personal life; he— and his family— live in a fishbowl and the work is 20 hours a day, 365 days a year. By my calculation, the emolument comes to roughly $0.0005 per hour. If somebody offers you the position, do not— under any circumstances— accept it.

It was, of course, Churchill who quipped,
Many forms of Government have been tried and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed, it has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.

Don't mistake my intent; I'm as frustrated and disgusted by the idiocies as anyone (witness this thread!) Nevertheless, Oscar Wilde's report of a sign he saw in a Western saloon applies:

Please don't shoot the piano player; he's doing the best he can.

When you tell the truth, someone is bound not to like what you are saying, that's been the case throughout history.

So I guess you don't like the truth and would rather have someone blow smoke up your skirt.

Too fucking bad.

By the way...you weren't missed around here.

FAA Shutdown Because Dems Want to Protect Pork
by Capitol Confidential

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has basically been shut down thanks to the Senate Democrats addition to pork. 4,000 FAA employees have been furloughed until further notice. 70,000 construction workers must now sit on their hands as all airport construction has halted. And the federal government is loosing $200million a week in airline ticket taxes because they are not authorized to legally collect the tax.

What has led to this massive shut down? Senate Democrats refusal to curb a wasteful government subsidy of $200 million known as the Essential Air Service (EAS) program.

It's called "self-confidence." Look it up in the dictionary sometime.

Oh, sorry...forgot you don't know how to use one. My bad.

Dear Reader

CLOUDY is the crazy aunt we keep hid in the attic when company comes.

How far ?

There's been an interesting programme on our Radio. What sort of sum is $t14.3 (that's fourteen point three trillion bucks).

If you stack up a pile of $100, then laid them on the ground (edge on), you'd make a line longer than the distance from Montreal to San Diego; or, imagine said line floating on the Atlantic. It's a lot longer than New York to Southampton.

Just a thought, folks. But don't worry, you ain't alone.

HP, you are absolutely right; very few people actually comprehend what a "trillion" means.

Innumeracy is part of the problem.

A sad tale of a once happy place

I once loved to spend time here reading the post and trying to learn to know a bit about the people who made them. I could hardly wait to post my first stories. However that is when I began to see the other, darker side of this site and in a way this whole system of communication.

My story was posted and earned a red H, however a few weeks later I answered another writer’s question about underage sex and my story was taken down. I tried to go along with the rules and tried to rewrite the story, but it wasn’t the same. I tried to write what would pass the censors but found that the fun was gone so I quit.

This is the first time that I have been back in some time and I see that the site is dying a slow death. I think the thing that is killing this site is the same thing that is killing the United States, in a word, intolerance.

There used to be a spirit here that is not here anymore. We used to be outlaws together coming here to our own place to be together and tell dirty tales to one another. It was a good time and a good place.

Now there is political shit and personal dislikes that rule the forums, the same sort of debates and bullshit that you can watch on TV news.

I don't need anymore of that.
