thankfully, here in tas they have to tell us the location of every camera, fixed or mobile!
this gismet will keep me safe... especially as i am a bit of a hoon

ironing is best done drunk :D you can put interesting patterns in the back of your shirts!

I used to iron my army gear then later on my security uniform & did a good job of it but now hang washing out damp & then hang it up or fold off the line all good these days with this system although I do grag the iron out when going dressed up to some special places.

So down there it isn't revenue raising like it is here.

well, yes, it is... but here they notify us of where they'll be.
if a person is too slack to find out - tough luck!
we have one point down here where the speed changes 3 times in 30 metres... and they have permanent cameras for all 3!
truckies get caught with 3 tickets simultaneously, because the B-doubles cross all 3 within one truck length

Thanks for the jokes Gil, made me smile :)

Hey PertPerth, thanks for the concern, I'm feeling much better after a visit from my kids :D

Mike.

Hey Gil, me too. Army then security uniforms were always ironed by me. Now I only iron collared shirts if need be.
The rest like you gets folded or hung up straight from the line.

Is it just me or do all these Asian electrical products fail the work right tests ?

Irons don't seem to get hot enough.

Sandwich toasters same as above.

Toasters same.

Jugs/ Kettles same.

Hair clippers same.

Yet it seems everything comes from these third would countries fails yet we pay top dollar for it all .... why?

Because labour is cheap there - and it's not here. Aussies are really expensive to hire in comparison.
It's interesting to think of the other point of view - which I didn't really think of (having lead such a privilegedlife in Australia) I have been doing lots of reading on women's rights and similar things and basically I don't hate all those 'sweat shop' employers any more. Why? It's given millions of women an income, which they'd never have had if it wasn't for the factories needing lots of hands. Yes, there are many which take advantage, but it's also done so much for 'creating wealth' (I use the ' ' because it's not much in comparison to our standards, but HEAPS compared to what they'd other wise have or be able to earn) for women with no education and those in poor communities. Better than being forced to turn to prostitution because there is no other choice.

Life is fucking awsome in Australia. Get outside and take a deep breath of air and don't forget how good we have it here. (Other than our high tax rate, of course!)

I know how good we have it here. I've lived in both Africa and Asia and have seen it first hand.
I don't grudge the tax I pay either. We have a huge amount of country and infrastructure to support with only a very small working population. We have no choice but to pay higher taxes, unless we'd rather have terrible roads, services, etc.
(It also explains why we have fees in every state for the same things - only way to guarantee the revenue.)

Nope not just you, alot of those products are crap, but then again you get what you pay for.
Its had to find affordable good quality products, the home made stuff isn't much better and costs more.

Two words: Russel Hobbs.

My point is only on quality of the product & the high price we pay for them yet they don't compare to the goods we were able to get years ago like an iron that gets hot enough that you don't have to use lots of pressure to get half the effect the older irons gave.

Sandwich toasters/ Jaffle irons no longer brown up the bread like the older ones did it's hardly warm bread.

As for the sweat shops I don't have a problem with them as long as the cost to us compairs to the cost of making the product, wages paid to the workers, shipping costs etc un like the grossly over the top prices we are expected to pay for these products.

But there is no "home made" stiff anymore & if I pay a shit price I do expect shit quality but I have also bought dearer stuff sadly with the same results in quality as the cheap shit.

Too true. And after my Dad spent over 5 months in hospital last year, I'm impressed with the hospital system we have. Yes, all the workers have too much to do and aren't paid enough, but they still manage to give really good care to everyone who needs it.

....and Softey - I'm curious....is sex really better in Australia??

I'd be checking the made in on any product but I have heard wonderful things about Russel Hobbs & seeing you did honour them by the use of CAPS I take it you are impressed with their products.

I am absolutely in love with Russel Hobbs products. Slowly replacing all my electric kitchen gadgets with this brand.
