What happened to all of the doom and gloom economic threads?

The $145 billion “extenders” package that the Obama administration and its allies in Congress are attempting to pass has revealed most of what they told us publicly over the last 18 months — about the stimulus, the health-care bill, the budget deficit, and taxes — to be a gusher of lies. BP has apparently plugged the hole that was hemorrhaging oil into the Gulf. Who will plug the hole Obama and his never-ending stimulus have blown in the U.S. budget?

The $145 billion is above all an extension of the $800 billion stimulus bill that passed last year. We were promised that the stimulus would be a temporary expenditure to boost private-sector employment. The details revealed its true purpose: Its biggest components were a bailout for state governments and an increase in federal assistance to the unemployed.

The Obama administration’s jobs strategy is to keep high-paid government workers from sharing the ongoing pain being felt in the private sector. As David Einhorn noted yesterday in a portentous New York Times op-ed, the private sector has cut 8.5 million from its payrolls during this recession, while local governments have let go only 141,000. Got a government job? You’re safe. Lost a private-sector job? Here’s your unemployment check — and be sure to vote Democrat next time, to keep those checks coming.

The problem with this strategy (security for government employees, welfare for the unemployed) is that it requires constant infusions of borrowed cash, hence the extenders package now before Congress. The bill contains yet another extension of unemployment benefits for those whose aid was set to expire, and yet another bailout for strapped states and municipalities.

In all honesty, I'd prefer it if the "world-improver" community all took a long Rip Van Winkle nap. That might save us for a while with these bogus go to nowhere projects, vote buying and make-work schemes. The meddlers are on the job including Larry Summers, the man who imploded the largest college endowment fund in America's history now wants a mere $200 billion more.....for what?? For an economy he said was strong and resilient??

$4.5 Million of Economic Recovery Funding for New Groundwater Wells at Gray Lodge Wildlife Area and Pixley National Wildlife Refuge Wetlands

By: U.S. Bureau of Reclamation

WASHINGTON, D.C. May 26, 2010 - Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar announced today that the Bureau of Reclamation has awarded a $4.5 million contract under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) for the construction of new groundwater wells at the Gray Lodge Wildlife Area and Pixley National Wildlife Refuge Wetlands in Butte and Tulare Counties, Calif.

The contract was awarded to Sansone Company, Inc, of San Luis Obispo, Calif. The project provides for construction of three groundwater wells/pumps at the Gray Lodge Wildlife Area and two wells/pumps at the Pixley National Wildlife Refuge.

"Groundwater deliveries from these wells will allow Reclamation to further progress towards meeting specific goals under the Central Valley Project Improvement Act," Secretary Salazar said. "The utilization of groundwater as part of refuge deliveries can reduce the impact on Central Valley Project yield, allowing more supplies to be available to agricultural contractors, especially in dry years."

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 gave a total of $3 billion to the Department of the Interior.

Under the ARRA, Interior is making an investment in fixing water infrastructure and conserving America's timeless treasures – our stunning natural landscapes, our monuments to liberty, the icons of our culture and heritage – while helping American families and their communities prosper again. Interior is also focusing on renewable energy projects, the needs of American Indians, employing youth and promoting community service.

"With its investments of Recovery Act funds, the Department of the Interior and its bureaus are putting people to work today to make improvements that will benefit the environment and the region for many years to come," Secretary Salazar said.

Secretary Salazar has pledged unprecedented levels of transparency and accountability in the implementation of the Department's economic recovery projects. The public will be able to follow the progress of each project on www.recovery.gov and on www.interior.gov/recovery. Secretary Salazar has appointed a Senior Advisor for Economic Recovery, Chris Henderson, and an Interior Economic Recovery Task Force to work closely with Interior's Inspector General and ensure the recovery program is meeting the high standards for accountability, responsibility, and transparency set by President Obama.

yeah and?

Now that the Obama Administration is taking side against Israel and the militants (who now run Turkey too) are beginning their summer offensive, one wonders what will happen to the price of oil, I mean, now that we have a moratorium that increases our dependence on the middle east...

Do we nuke Tel Aviv to protect the oil supplies so they can't nuke new best buddy Tehran?

When I was asked earlier about, uh, the issue of coal. Uhhh, y'know, under my plan of a cap-and-trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket....
We would put a cap-and-trade system in place, eh, that is as aggressive, if not more aggressive, than anybody else's out there. So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can. It's just that it will bankrupt them because they're gonna be charged a huge sum for all that, uh, greenhouse gas that's being emitted.

Queer, the early-morning, mutual non-sequitur stroke-fest over unrelated thread topics going on in the eleven posts above this one.

very queer. But ironically apropos for Gay Pride Month. :D

We're well on the road to recovery, we have leaking oil in the Gulf, a moratorium, tensions flaring in the Middle East, and yet speculators are not bidding up the price of oil...

Why is that?
