What To Do When Someone Favorites You?

Now, that sounds like a good deal! I intend to go favorite a couple of you guys the next time I plan to be logged on. Turnabout is fair play! :)

I don't like the limits either. Not sure WHY we need them limited. I enjoy a wide variety of categories and writing styles.

This gave me a chuckle. I felt the SAME WAY! Don't ya love me anymore???

You sir, are an incorrigible flirt. Keep up the good work.

It's probably a hold over from the old days when disk space was expensive.

FYI: I was watching a show on the History Channel last night about Apple. The first AppleII cost around 4 grand. 16K of memory was $1,500. They hadn't even come out with disk drives for PC.

ETA: I second Salvor's idea...picture are welcomed anytime.

You can never go wrong with bikini or lingerie pictures. Just saying.

see, if you take this out of context, and twist it just so, it sounds really really bad. And Wicked Weasel doesn't have anything in my size

In my book, really really bad is really really GOOD. So, if Wicked Weasel won't fit the bill, then check out Raucous Raccoon!

I favourite authors so I can come back for the same, or new stories. It is difficult to remember the really good ones otherwise. It is unfortunate that the number of favourites is limited.

I don't think it's limited any longer. It used to be 10, but I have more than that on my favorites list now.

There are few authors who really I enjoy, among a sea of authors that do not appeal. It is worth remembering the preferred ones. Saves trawling through a lot of stuff which has no real excitement for me.

I send a note to say how good they are..

Most of the ones I read on my favorites do correspond with me through email if I leave a comment on their stories. I have quite a few favorites and some I haven't visited in awhile, but they're there if I ever have a lot of time to go through and do some online reading.

haha The first time I saw someone unfavourited me, I felt like I'd just been dumped. "Was it something I said or did? I can change!"

It's disappointing to see, but there could be many different reasons why people remove you from their favorites list.

I've seen a lot of people remove me lately, but I'm guessing that's because I haven't written anything in awhile and perhaps they figure I'm just not around any longer. Or perhaps they just wanted to "clean up" their lists and remove the authors who aren't as active. Or maybe there are still limits and they've found other authors they like more. Or they've read some of the more.....controversial (for lack of a better word).....posts I've made here and have decided they don't like me anymore.

I notice, however, I remain in about the same area on the Favorites Portal. When I go back and look at who's added me or removed me, the ratio is about the same.

Do I send the ones who've added me a note? Nope. Do I send the ones who've removed me a note? Nope.

Perhaps as a blanket "thank-you" without bringing out any specific names, include a note at the end of your next story/chapter (or even include a note in your bio) thanking anyone who has added you or one of your stories/chapters to their favorite authors list.

I continue to read and appreciate everyone's responses. However, I decided to try out sending a short and sweet thank you note to those who favorite me, but not those who just favorite a story of mine. It's a new policy, but I am pleased that I haven't been summarily unfavorited just because I've sent someone a note...at least not yet.

I also like the idea of buying a round of drinks for all logged into the AH whenever it happens. so the next three rounds are on me! Drink up, you talented buncha rowdies!

I think limiting favorites is a good way to keep them meaningful. There's really a limit to how many can be a "favorite"--the more that can be registered, the less meaningful each one is.

Nah. I don't want to be kicked off because someone discovers a prolific talented writer! And I wanna be picked up, even if it's number 30 on the list. I'm needy like that.

All about the tubes. I don't claim to know how the back end of lit works but I would imagine each favorite takes up a bit of bandwidth to load your favorites, multiply that by (checks member list) 942197 registered people at most and it adds up. All about keeping the site in working order.

Yeah, there is and ya know what, you're even on it. Somewhere. :D

At least you were the last time I looked.

I just wish they would number the damned list so I didn't have to do all that counting.

That is a good answer to why they have the limits...but it's still unfortunate.

As of a few minutes ago, you were 221st favorite out of 46,806 authors here. (They are only listed down to the top 250.)

On having no limits on votes, I still think that would cheapen the meaning. I agree it would give those who benefited a false sense of what it means, though. And on the Internet, that seems to be good enough.

fame at at last!

... oh ... bugger.

What I think would be nice is "this is who has favorited you' compilation; sort of a reverse favorites list.

If you view the recent activity, it will tell you all who have added you to their favorite list in the past 24 hours/7 days/ 30 days. If you keep up with it, check at least once a month, you can compile just such a list.

But when would I find time to procrastinate? I've got something like sixteen half finished stories that I am currently in the process of not finishing; compiling that list would ensure I never them done.*

Well, that and the fact that I thought about doing the same thing, but missed the window of opportunity with my earlier (read:eek:lder than thirty days) works.

As for checking once a month: I need a much bigger ego stroke than that. When I post a story, I probably check that damn login/submissions page three times a day.

*All tongue in cheek, of course. I did my nine hours in the cave today, and now I am trying to calm down with a Woodchuck cider and what's left of a sunny day.

Do you think so? I can see someone's feelings be hurt. I thought you were my friend, why didn't you favorite me? I would prefer not to know who had or hadn't included me on their list.
