You're a good Mommy. Reading to your kids is such an amazing thing to bring into their lives. Both my sons are now almost grown and gone but they still remember me reading to them.

Gardens of the Moon, the first book in Steven Erikson's epic fantasy series, the Malazan Book of the Fallen.

Oh, and Wuthering Heights.

Interesting. I just passed that info on to my oldest. (21 and a huge fan of fantasy books)
He has it on hiw wish list and thinks it sounds promising.
A link for those that are curious.

Fantasy is probably my favorite genre to read. I'd also recommend:
The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan.
The Sword of Truth series byTerry Goodkind.
The Mistborn Trilogy by Brandon Sanderson, and also his standalone novel Elantris.
Guardians of the Flame series by Joe Rosenberg.
Any book written by Robin Hobb, she's that good.
The Fey books by Kristine Kathryn Rusch.

And a bunch of others. I probably read too much.

Thank you. :) There is no such thing as reading too much!
Unless your eyeballs fall out from overuse.

i'm always a little grey about the split between fantasy & sci fi

i really enjoyed the 'amber' series by roger zelazny, and at the time i considered it sci-fi, but maybe its really fantasy?

Takes me forever to read a book. I read 20-30 pages a week as I usually just get 10 minutes here and there. I suppose I should make more time, but it just doesn't happen.

awww :)

she's 13...in theory, too old for bedtime stories.
but i think it's much more fun now that she's old enough for proper stories. i'm getting to reread all my old favourites.

murder book Richard Raynor

Saucerful of Secrets - The Pink Floyd Odyssey Nicolas Schaffner

The Mission Song John Le Carré

Scarpetta Factor, by Patricia Cornwell

For quite some time I loved the Scarpetta books but she wore on me. More the author than the character. That stupid Jack the Ripper book pretty much ended any respect I had for her and the later Scarpetta books that wouldn't shut up about the lesbian niece finally did it. She's gay, we fucking get it already. Move the fuck on.
Still a good series for some time though.
