If Sean had a point, exactly what was it? That the vast number of arms and munitions that are never present on most areas of a military base might have saved lives if they had been more handy?

Possibly. But for all the BS spewing about what a violent society America is, the vast majority of citizens (myself included) choose not to carry firearms in public and thus are not prepared to respond to violent crime if it should break out in our presence.

We apparently choose to run the risk of dying while waiting for the police. If that's what civilized people do, then what do the events of today prove other than that even military personnel on base basically follow the same rule?

They were in a meeting hall filling out paperwork to deploy to Iraq and Afghanistan and getting dental checkups.....unarmed.
