The Summer Lovin' Contest Support Thread

I'm a new author to the site as well and I have to say, the variety of both stories and talent on here are astonishing. I've been kinda lurking in the background just popping in to check out the comments since the start of the contest. You guys make me laugh.

Kev H. - I read your story and was intrigued by the imagination shown. I'll try to get a PC up on it tonight.

I'm kinda slowly working my way through them all but somehow don't think I'm gonna get all 75 stories read. That's a LOT of reading and I've got other demands on my time. I just wanted to post a public 'Good Luck' to everyone.

Welcome to Lit, and the A/H Kami, and to all the new folks!

It's been a long time since we had a Newbie Barbeque :D

Have there been any vote sweeps for troll cleanup? I haven't noticed one, but maybe all my votes are legit.

Reading Stories slowly but surely...

So far I've gotten to Auden James, AlexysQuinn, ms. read, and TE99

Next up
Boxlicker101, Moonlitclover, and penandpaper.

I've send votes and comments and some pm/emails

Let me know if you want me to read your stories. The list keeps changing its hard to keep up. :)

Did the sweeps happen? Anyone have a score hovering around the normal story score yet?

Here is my entry: Reparation

There was a sweep on Aug 30. I don't know how extensive it was, but two one-bombs were swept from my story, raising the score about a quarter of a point. :)

Sophie, just so you know, there are always mini vote removels that go on daily. You might get a vote or two and a day later they may be gone. No one know how it works. There are always a couple of big hoovers come through in every contest. I just had my story posted yesterday so I don't know if one has come through.

Usually it's the high volumn of votes on stories that see it the most. Not that they are the best stories but they are the ones that get it with the hoover the most. I've always been one of them.

Example: I have 279 votes and just over 6000 reads. Why so many votes for so few read? I don't know but I get it in every contest. If (when) I get hoovered I will let you know if it's a considerable amount of votes.

Good luck to you in the contest..
DG

I'd love for you to read mine. I have not submitted a story since Earth Day Contest. One Wave at a Time is my story. It's been up for one day and has about 50 votes...not sure if that is good, bad or what. Thanks.

My funny bone actually woke up, so I'm going to have one in the contest. I'm not eligible to win, but I love the number/humor of the comments I get from these in contests.

I've had this story sitting in my inbox for a long time, but this contest finally gave me a reason to post it.

Fear the coming of LST3K: Sister Summer

Last I checked I was just under 100 votes and I haven't seen my score shift too much one way or the other, so I'm just going to assume it's sitting where it will stay. Which is sad because I'd like it to be higher, but hell, at least I'm writing again (a little).

Thanks for the comment.

I'll be reading some tonight and then hit it tomorrow again.

I just checked mine and have over 309 votes. Reads hasn't changed yet. They change votes right away but reads only a couple of times a day.

Usually there isn't a lot of change (other than the sweeps) after the first couple of days of posting. There are more stories added every day. At least those interested in reading contest entries can go to the Contest Submission page and find them.

Sweeps (if they happen) can make big changes in the score. So don't give up and just enjoy the ride.:)

I should have really thought about it before I put mine in the queue. It's probably going to come out tomorrow, and nobody is going to see it. Sunday is a cemetary on the new story page.

Ah well, that's what I get. I was just so happy to finish something that I couldn't wait to hit the submission page, after so long.

Ah but you forget, Monday is a holiday. You might be okay

Bloody hell! That's even worse! *laugh*

Anyway, it's up: LST3K: Sister Summer and already carrying a score of 3 :p

I'll add the Ep. 10 in with an edit to the title after the contest. Don't want any confusion about it being a chapter story when that designation is for the series, not chapters.

On another note: Anyone up for a first-read of the first two chapters of a swords and (minimal) sorcery story? I've been off the horse for a while, and I want to get some thoughts/opinions. It isn't for the contest, but I figured as long as I'm posting anyway...

Besides, having an insightful opinion on my Earth Day story did wonders for it. Otherwise, I'd be eligible to win in this contest ;)

About 13k for both chapters. The sex is a little rough, though fully consentual. There's no lovemaking here -- they're fucking. I don't need nuts and bolts grammar type scanning ( though I won't turn down any offered ) I'm just looking for impressions -- knee-jerk reactions to the story, setting, characters, etc.

The more, the merrier.

Hey!! So cool! :D So nice to see you've posted. I know you have to be feeling really good, even if you might have given it the kiss of death on day. Once your fans find you, no worries, I'm sure.

I'd love to read your fucking story! :D But you don't get expert advice from me, though I freely give it.

Enjoy finding your seat now you're back on the saddle! :rose:

Thanks, DH. I'll upload copies of it onto my webspace and send you links once I wake back up. That's probably the easiest way, since PMs have character limits and email can screw the formatting up sometimes.

I'm drifting in and out now, and the young one has been asleep for a couple of hours. If I don't crash out soon, he's going to have me up before I'm remotely conscious.

I actually have another in the queue, and a third in editing, but those two are both for my third pen name, so I won't be announcing them ;) I'm still playing with that experiment of how the tales do without any connection to my known pen names.

The beg is still out there, BTW. As I said, the more the merrier. I may be in the saddle, but I'm not real confident yet, and this horse is bucking like it has a burr under the saddle.

Anybody willing to give it a read is most appreciated.

Every time I read about all the votes some stories get, I wonder about it. My contest entry has been up since Aug. 29 and has 44 votes. The score isn't too bad, but it's certainly not in contention.

I like to think that people read part way through and get themselves off by wanking or frigging and don't finish the story, and don't vote. At least, that's what I like to tell myself.

Ok, mine is submitted. Hopefully it'll be out tomorrow.

Since I'm out of the competition, I decided to see if I could piss people off on content alone. I didn't take the easy route with the obvious bad-spelling, horrible grammar, run-on sentences, etc., although ti was tempting. But I'm too weak to abuse my own writing that way yet. All mistakes are unintentional.

I just took a questionable situation, made it worse, put in a wimp father, and an abusive father, and added a 'hopefully' nasty surprise.

I really wanted to make it worse, but I just ran out of time, and it was too long as it was.

Let's see how the hoi-poloi treat this one-

i second that! (especially the stop submitting part, but certainly the bit about the talent around here as well)

i was quite the reader again tonight (where was this level of commitment when i was in college?!) and have now read penandpaper, hoo_hoo_boo, augden james, talyisbagley, naturallysweet and sophiajane's stories. it was an interesting night, leading into at least one category i haven't read in before. thanks everyone :)

and in response to maggot420, you're so right. my bad. here's the link. happy channukah :)

i know i have a few more authors to get to, and i will certainly do so before the contest is up, but i think i might take a break, hang out with some friends and drink some beer this weekend, so if you don't see any comments from me on your stories, just know that they're coming. buenas noches!

ps mia_erotica - in addition to the many things i laughed at in your story, the fact that one of your characters and i share a name (ok, mine's really kailae, but close enough) cracked me up, especially with the reference to little kai. good times.

Thanks for the link. I think you should put it in your sig tho ;)

You're probably right.:) After mission accomplished, why read anymore.
My votes and reads will probably slow way way down now also. It is a decent amount of reads for a 4 1/2 page Lit story. Readers of longer stories are usually there till the end unless the story really sucks. Either way they tend to vote and or make a comment. One person left me 10 identical comments and a low score with it.

The readers informed me of it and I deleted all but one. He/she had a right to their opinion so I did leave the one in. Don't know if that affects reads or votes. Must have just read it once, haha. here are my vote and read totals as of 7:25 am. today. We'll see what the readers give and the hoover taketh away.
Good louck to you Box.

votes schmotes

i've decided that this voting process just makes me more neurotic than usual, and since i've already got that pretty much covered, i'm resolving not to look at them for the rest of the contest...

to help me in this aim, i will borrow from those famous step obsessed peeps, supposedly it has worked wonders for them...

the first step is admitting that your life has become unmanageable. - done, i'm a neurotic vote checker.
2) acknowledge higher power - ummm hoover??
3) turn will over to said higher power - ok, ok, Lit. take me or leave me... preferably take me though. Much more fun
4) moral inventory - ... on second thought, this will take longer than the combined vote checking time.

bring on the nuerotica!!

Like I said: Sunday of a holiday weekend. Even the crickets have quit chirping :p

May as well have tossed this one into a black hole *laugh*

That would be the case with an ordinary submission. It would only be high on the "New" list for a short time. However, contest entries will remain on the entry list until the voting ends, and newer stories do not receive preferential treatment.

The number of reads from the contest page is minimal, at best. Most of those are readers devoted to reading everything in the contest. It's maybe an increase of double what you'd get without it... which is double of next to nothing.

Once it's off the NEW page, it's dead. If it's on the NEW page today, it's dead anyway *laugh*

I almost wish they'd quit posting stories on Sunday. It's such a worthless waste if you accidently ( or stupidly ) fall into it.
