There's two mindsets that come here, IMO. One mindset wants to have community and share and learn and connect and in the midst of all that, have some fun.

The other mindset just wants to hear themselves talk and to tell you that the sky is red when it's blue and ultimately not realize that the sky doesn't have a color at all, because in reality you're just looking at light being filtered and reflected. Being honest with them doesn't make a difference because they came here to hear themselves talk and as long as they talk, that's their reason of being.

Somewhere between these two exists a third, elusive being that just marks time and burns up their lifespan with minutiae, never really caring about shit but not shitting on shit, either. The former two will be remembered while the third will be forgotten and only recalled in the casual. I suppose there is a merit in wanting to be remembered in some sort of fashion, so the good or the bad of either existence is subjective.

Where Karen lies, and moreso, where we lie in all of the above, is up to you and us. This place is what we make of it.

Take a look at this, through that most excellent filter: I post about movies, songs, TV shows, food, etc., but the vitriol junkies are unhappy. They need there to be some hard-hitting Obama-bashing, or the equivalent, so they can get it up -- their enthusiasm, I mean. Why?

Because they are too unsure of themselves to post a view about a movie, a book, a TV show, food,etc. When a thread calls for a flashlight, they produce a flame-thrower. That's because it's all they have. The cheap snark and personal attack -- which they claim is "funny" is nothing more than a dodge from the path of the thread.

They are uncomfortable when they must take the risk of expressing a personal position -- an opinion relating to the subject of the thread. Instead, they weakly revert to name-calling and gender-questioning.

If they can't participate in a thread the way they find it, they must hijack the environment to a place where they compete better -- the snarky realm of the Internet equivalent of professional wrestling.
