Even going so far as to FORGET said paper exists.

And if you want to get really technical we could call it the D.O.P for Dampus Panticus Operandi. That's like, procrastination quintuplicated, injected into Nadya Suleman's womb for embryonic growth and spawntastic multiplication, then raised to the power of infinity.

You're not old.

You can be as old or as young as you think you are. Just accept challenges, do one thing you've never done before every day, and enjoy the little things about living - the birds singing, the worm casts showing how much is happening in the soil, the shape of clouds in the sky - and you'll never feel old.

When my father was in a residential home for the last six years of his life because his short term memory had gone I couldn't convince him that he was in his nineties. He would walk up to 15 miles a day and get back to the home as long as he remember which side the sea was on when he started.

I'd sometimes ask him how old he thought he was. He answered "I suppose that I'm over 70, but when the nurse helps me in and out of the bath, I think I'm in my twenties, and a part of me thinks it's brand new and ready to start life again..."

Holiday misrepresentation

We've just noticed a holiday cottage advertisement for our North Kent coastline. The blurb includes "close to start of boat trips to see sea lions".

That would be unusual. Sea lions do not inhabit the Atlantic and certainly not the North Sea or the Thames Estuary. I don't know of any boat trips that go from the North Kent Coast to Antarctica or through the Suez Canal.

Seals? Yes. Sea Lions? No.

I want to make french toast, bacon, hash browns and fruitcups, and have someone sneak up behind me, wrap their arms around my waist and squeeze me tight and kiss the back of my neck.

As the second part is so unlikely to happen, I'm having cereal.

If I had known that was all that I needed to do to get the breakfast I wanted this morning, I still wouldn't have done it. I don't swing that way and the local diner is probably closer ;)

Still a little bleary-eyed after a late return from Milwaukee, but it was worth it to hear Sophia Jane and fieryjen read their work. Damn, but those two young women can get an old coot's attention. :D

SJ read one of my favorite pieces: "Exposed" plus a few delicious poems. Fieryjen read a story that hasn't yet made it to the Lit servers but I assure all her readers that they will love it when they get a chance to read it.

Also heard a wickedly fun piece by someone who was not part of SJ's workshop. If all suspension scenes played out like that one, I'd be a suspension addict.

My sliding door is open. Holy whoa. And it's beautiful out. I can hear crows, morning doves, finches, and chickadees. Mostly crows, though. Vocal bastards. It's a jungle of birdyness out there.
