Non-authorial threads in the hangout

I like the posts that begin; "If you could see my face right now..."

Does anyone still think that way, six years later? (Which is an eternity in internet time)

It was a passing curiosity. Where/when did the atmosphere shift? Or did it at all? In some ways yes and some ways no. It was when I reached this thread, and the WSO's statement jumped out at me. I was more interested in that than the rest of the thread.

Of course that was before my time... or my Lit time. Could just be an attack of sentimentalism. Like that panic attack a few days ago.

These are tense times too. So people are tense. People erect defenses in tense times. Become sensitive and the already sensitive become extra sensitive, susceptible to unnecessary defensiveness or unnecessary preemptive strikes.

There are threads giving support to friends who are in pain or experiencing difficulties.
And this last few days has shown that even though I've never met a single person here, I have friends. Unlike real life where no one gave a damn. I am thankful for the "silly" threads. It kept me from losing my mind.

Pm's from people who cared, who took a moment to send strength, hugs or just cry with me. It helped.:rose::heart:

...So, the question is how do you feel about threads that aren't about authorial stuff? ...

I miss the writing/challenge threads being on the main page. I set my screen at the bottom edge of the stickeys so forget all about the challenge/exercises subforum.

My first 30 or so posts here were about writing. Then I lightened up.
Killermuffin and other grim-faced posters never really liked to see much humour, as it reminds them of their own lack of it. Those people have by and large slinked off to become bitter middle-managers somewhere.

Im still here mainly thanks to alcohol.

My favorite threads are all the funny threads I've started.

The title of this forum is Authors Hangout...not Authors Symposium on Writing...it is what it is...a hangout...a place to meet and greet, laugh and cry, share and confide, celebrate and mourn...and occasionally talk about writing.

IMO if there are those among us who want to discuss writing, start a thread. I do notice that the most visited, long-lasting threads are the fun ones...Blurt, Abstrusions, Last, Word Chain, Naked Party, AV Themes, et al. which says to me folks come here to relax and have fun...not to be chastised by a hall monitor. :D

Anyone else wonder where americandemon's posts went? There are reponses to him but no posts from him. In a forum with no moderator, that seems weird. People who vanish have their accounts wiped out, sure, but their posts remain. Or at least a place where there post used to be with 'deleted' in its place. This total wiping off of americandemon is weird.

You think someday scouries et al. will also vanish like this? Is there hope after all?

I don't mind if you vanish, just don't take your avatar when you go

*snerk*

Hahahahaha! :D

Anything that promotes (or provokes) verbal intercourse can be of use to writers.

We in the Hangout become better writers not just by discussing writing, or by participating in writers' "challenge" threads - but by writing, reading and responding on any topic that catches our interest. Whether it's an authorly thread, a political rant, or a debate about the relative merits of "come" used as a noun.

What's missing - and perhaps a moderator could help bring this back - is the traditional battle of the Penis Close-Up AVs. Those were writerly threads, in the sense that the penises presumably belonged to writers. And the discussions, pro and con, were ever so lively.

I don't know if you need a moderator for that, all you need is to ask :p

I think I need to dig into my old PC's hard drive to find my penis av...

I think that your post would be better without the mention of KillerMuffin. She has/had a great sense of humour - perhaps not revealed in this thread - but visible elsewhere. She worked hard on the development of Literotica but could relax and play with the rest of us when she wanted to.

Isn't this a non-authorial thread? Should this really be allowed in the authors' hangout?

Well I'm turning it into one by saying that I take issue with your non-capitalization of Authors' Hangout. In A A Milne vs. e e cummings I'm definitely a Big Fan of the Former.

I thinks things are already better
