And They Want $1.2 Trillion

I'm still giggling over that fact that some people think I live in a 'semi-socialist' country. Meaning a nasty dictatorship where dissent is slapped down hard.

I wonder if that person has ever left their state, never mind been to other countries.

Probably not.

And they haven't taken the time to learn more about any other countries and how they function.

I'll admit to not knowing enough about Canada and it's government, but at least I know that it isn't a "semi-socialist" country. From what I've seen; Canada is far more accepting of it's people and their ideas and whatnot than the US is. At least they see the injustice of some rules and have changed them to reflect the apparent will of it's people. The US is still unwilling to do so.

And the national debt was $5 trillion, making the surplus seem like pocket change. 1.4% of the national debt. Whooptie do.

Sweetheart... as of February 5, 2009, the total U.S. federal debt was $10.71 trillion. It's doubled in ten years time, most of which were Bush years. The total debt has increased over $500 billion each year since fiscal year 2003.

Thanks to your boy.

I’m sorry but part of the problem started in the “Clinton” time, when they pushed to get more American’s into home ownership. At that time Clintons pushed make changes at Fred and Fan, where welfare and unemployment were not considered income.

Why can’t people just accept the fact that both parties are responsible for this and stop pointing fingers? Clinton has some major f-ups, we all know about bush’s….and hopefully Obama will make less mistakes….

We're in this fucking mess because of your politics.

Oh, look....Dumb and Dumber has decided to make an appearance.

Did you even bother to read what Selena posted:

The coffers were over flowing during the “dot com”, “day trading”, and “real estate flippers.” Having 2 wars didn’t help things. The economy started to head downward the last year or two with Clinton in office. Bush just added fuel to the downward spiral.

The USS Cole bombing was a suicide bombing attack against the U.S. Navy destroyer USS Cole (DDG 67) on 12 October 2000 while it was harbored in the Yemeni port of Aden. Seventeen American sailors were killed. Thirty nine others were injured in the blast.

The response from President Clinton? Umm nothing that amounted to anything.

Response from President Obama? Drop all charges against terrorist who confessed to the bombing. (yes, he was water boarded....but not harmed ....not killed)

2000

President Clinton and his national security team ignored several opportunities to capture Osama bin Laden and his terrorist associates, including one as late as 1999.

The AP has reported that in 2000 the Pentagon told President Clinton that they knew the location of bin Laden and could take him out. But Clinton decided it was too risky, and refused to authorize such an action. Clinton was asked by Fox News if this was true. He said it was not true and that his best shot was when he bombed bin Ladens training camp in 98. Several days later he told the London Times he had authorized bin Ladens capture or assassination in 1998, but the intelligence information needed to carry it out was never available.

Sept 11 2001

The September 11 attacks (often referred to as nine-eleven, written 9/11) were a series of coordinated suicide attacks by al-Qaeda upon the United States on September 11, 2001. On that morning, 19 Islamist terrorists affiliated with al-Qaeda hijacked four commercial passenger jet airliners. The hijackers intentionally crashed two of the airliners into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, killing everyone on board and many others working in the building. Both buildings collapsed within two hours, destroying at least two nearby buildings and damaging others. The hijackers crashed a third airliner into the Pentagon. The fourth plane crashed into a field near Shanksville in rural Somerset County, Pennsylvania, after some of its passengers and flight crew attempted to retake control of the plane, which the hijackers had redirected toward Washington, D.C. There are no survivors from any of the flights.

Excluding the 19 hijackers, 2,819 people died in the attacks. They died on American soil. I wonder if it would have ever happened if bin Laden had been killed in that US attack....there are a great many in the world that really hate America, so who knows...it might have happened anyway...

The idea for the September 11 plot came from Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, who first presented the idea to Osama bin Laden in 1996. At that point, Bin Laden and al-Qaeda were in a period of transition, having just relocated back to Afghanistan from Sudan. The 1998 African Embassy bombings and Bin Laden's 1998 fatwā marked a turning point, with bin Laden intent on attacking the United States. In late 1998 or early 1999, bin Laden gave approval for Mohammed to go forward with organizing the plot. A series of meetings occurred in spring of 1999, involving Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, Osama bin Laden, and his deputy Mohammed Atef. Mohammed provided operational support for the plot, including target selections and helping arrange travel for the hijackers.

Terrorist attacks inside the US after 2001? None President Bush's response? He went after them were they live.

Just posting some additonal information about the Clint admin.......I actually like President Clint...but as a president? No

Obama? So far I am not impressed but it is very early days....I do wonder if he has the resolve to keep our country safe...our people safe....time will tell...

I don't agree with this economic package that he's been pushing...you cannot get the country moving and out of debt by making more debt and more government.... I hope I'm wrong and we pull out of this mess....

Government is not capable of running an enterprise…granted Wall Street is no better….

But the 1.2 trillion is nothing, as Obama’s team is getting ready to have access to 3 trillion for banks for the credit market and to buy up “toxic” assets.

The IRS seized the Mustang Ranch in NV for back taxes in 1990. Not too long after they shut it down for failure to thrive. So to speak. They lost money on the operation.

So the federal government can't make money selling pussy and whiskey and they now want $1.2 trillion of your money so they can help the economy. They go broke trying to run a whore house but they are sure they know how how to run banks.

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Clinton is the life of the party, the ultimate salesperson…just don’t leave your wife or daughter alone with him….

China Needs U.S. Guarantees for Treasury Bond Holdings, Yu Says
By Belinda Cao and Judy Chen

Feb. 11 (Bloomberg) -- China should seek guarantees that its $682 billion holdings of U.S. government debt won’t be eroded by “reckless policies,” said Yu Yongding, a former adviser to the central bank.

The U.S. “should make the Chinese feel confident that the value of the assets at least will not be eroded in a significant way,” Yu, who now heads the World Economics and Politics Institute at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, said in response to e-mailed questions yesterday from Beijing. He declined to elaborate on the assurances needed by China, the biggest foreign holder of U.S. government debt.

Benchmark 10-year Treasury yields climbed above 3 percent this week on speculation the government will increase borrowing as President Barack Obama pushes his $838 billion stimulus package through Congress. Premier Wen Jiabao said last month his government’s strategy for investing would focus on safeguarding the value of China’s $1.95 trillion foreign reserves.

China may voice its concerns over U.S. government finances...

There are many who accept that both parties are to blame for various and sundry parts of our national calamity. There are people who are hard working debt paying, tax paying people who believe in the American Way.

If the Congress hadn't sold us out by 'de-regulation" and sub prime mortgages funding. Or the SEC hadn't lost their reason for existence to scrutinize the paper that was being shuffled in Wall Street. We may have only found our selves supporting two wars and the effects of draining our treasury for "Defense".

So in honor of all of us who really believe that our political class is nothing more than a collection of thieves that represent themselves and not the people. Don't vote for incumbents.

Of course the fact that the budget surplus came entirely from gutting the Defense Department and cutting the Intelligence budget by over 30% didn't lead to any problems did it?

Didn't say totalitarian, just socialist. It is not the job of a Govt. to control banks, health and industry.

More silly stuff.

Sure, Clinton cut defense spending. Because the reason for much of that spending, the Soviet Union, was gone.

Watch for more wailing and gnashing of teeth when the F-22 is not re-ordered.

"Oh god, here they go... cutting defense." - random right wing poster or radio host.

Right. A plane that is designed to fight an enemy that no longer exists and that we aren't using in the two wars we are fighting right now because it's "advanced electronics" are rendered useless by... a preponderance of cell phones and the jamming equipment OUR troops use to combat roadside bombs.

Throwing money at a problem doesn't necessarily solve a problem. Ask a Chicago Cubs fan.

I was thinking more of the entire 637 class of fast attack subs that was cut up for scrap. Along with a dozen Cruisers and destroyers. Most were around 20 years old and could have served anothe 15+. All those billions wasted. Not to mention all the reactors now buried at Hanford, WA. I spent my time on the SSN 679 decomissioned in 94, age 22 years.

I can't argue this subject with you. Flat out, I simply do not have enough information about that specific decision... it may have been foolish. It may have been based on what we could save in operating expenses. They could have been thinking that those attack subs no longer had anyone to attack.

I just don't know enough to say it was a bad decision OR a good one. So I must say that, barring the knowledge to actually know what the hell I am talking about, I'll leave that one alone.

Bush was warned about a pending attack by terrorist hijacking planes in August of '01, but he was too busy cutting brush at his ranch to give a damn.

The last I heard the U.S. still spends more on its armed forces than the next ten countries in the world. Considering that high military costs place a huge drain on a nation I'm of the opinion that the current economic crisis is caused, somewhat, by this fact. Money spent on weapons disappears from the economy.

And a little factoid on Shrub and terrorism. The first item on the agenda the first time the Bush National Security Council met was the invasion of Iraq. The first time Al Qaeda came up was just a couple of weeks before 9/11. This is from Richard A. Clarke, former White House counter-terrorism chief.

Subs also have an intelligence gathering function. Electronic and also deploying SEALS.

We also spend more for Medicaid than we do the military.

DEE ZIRE

I predict someone will be murdered in America today. Go save them.

Of course Clark said that when he was promoting his book and has been discredited.
The fact is that there was not enough work being done on the intelligence side to find all the answers. There were plenty of hints but nothing to tie it all rogether and that is Clintons fault just like it's his fault Bin Laden wasn't caught when he had the chance.
