Need help with Thanksgiving? Ask and we'll pass the toque blanche around til we get the answer.

Relative problems? Rant away.

Great idea!

I'll check in tomorrow during the cooking frenzy.

:)

Going to my mama's, so I'm good, but I'll offer help if anyone needs it. :)

My mom told me, in no uncertain terms, not to bring anything, but I think I'm gonna sneak a fruit pizza in on her. :)

How are you going to do that? Pretend it's a hat?

My folks are still out of town so we're dining with hubby's dad.

Bless his heart, he purchased an entire meal, against our wishes, from the grocery store.

No problem, except that it is a tiny meal and will only feed two, certainly not six or more hungry people. How can we tell him now that he ordered too small?

So. I'm cooking an entire meal and we're bringing it with us.

Just in case, we'll say.

Staying here this year, and doing up a large dinner. Roommate has invited a bunch of the people off of his ship, who can't get home for Thanksgiving and would otherwise be alone, over here. So planning to knock out the baking tommorrow and get setup for the big day.

I did my part of the cooking yesterday evening, so I'm all set for Thursday. The pumpkin pies turned out great.

A tip for those slaving over a hot stove and/or in front of hot ovens the next couple of days: Solarcaine or Orajel! Topical anesthetics make those little nicks and burns much more tolerable.

I need to find cloudy's recipe thread. I promised to post our menu/recipes.

I am going up to my parents place. We will be bringing a Turkey with us, as well as a few other things.

The Turkey is defrosted and has been seasoned with Garlic, Onion, Salt, Pepper and Rosemary.

Tomorrow it will be tossed into the smoker for several hours. This will start the cooking.

On Thanksgiving it will be transported to my parents place early and put in the oven to finish the cooking.

As for idiot family, they're all up north.

I usually don't participate in Thanksgiving cuz like Christmas, I think it's a big marketing ploy.

But, since my Dad is living with me now and since Grace has kinda guilted me about it....I made reservations for dinner for My dad and me at a local Country Club. Supposed to be a great spread....and no cooking or washing dishes.

Well...I do have a chicken/broccoli/rice/cheese casserole in the oven for the potluck dinner at lunch tomorrow.

Oh...and I'll be taking the oreo cheesecake I made this weekend.

Other than that....I have 4 whole days off!!!!!!

WhoooHoooo!:)

It's not a maketing ploy Misty, it's the feast of gluttony :D :p

I'm making pies this afternoon and picking up the turkey this morning hopefully. I think i have everything else ready to go. Need to remember to make the cranberry sauce this year! First thanksgiving here in england I haven't invited others over so its just a small do but kidlet is very excited.

My dad went vegan and I don't want to fry a turkey this year anyway. Maybe, I'll go to a soup kitchen and lend a hand. Damn if i wont miss the week of leftover turkey sandwiches.

Could be that I started this thread for my own benefit. There will be a total of 25 at my house for dinner. What started as 9 or 10 just kept growing.

But we got a good start. Red Cabbage, Turnips, Apple Sauce and Cranberry sauce already made. Turkey stock for the gallons of gravy we'll need was made a few weeks ago.

Today is clean house and bake pies (apple, mince and pumpkin).

Tomorrow, we've got two turkeys to roast (we decided 2 smaller birds would be better than some turkeysaurus rex).

Updates of my encroaching insanity to follow...

[Rant]

"We" ( = I!) are doing the 26 lbs. turkeysaurus rex. Because we will be having two vegans THEY are bringing a tofurkey (I'm sorry, but that is just WRONG! Yuck!!!)

I was planning on having everybody eat out on the patio like the last five years, but VM and his fucking rain dance has screwed that up now (THANKS VM, you asshat!)

Today is pie day. Apple, cherry, pecan and pumpkin mousse (NO mince - just can NOT deal with that stuff!)

My Pet Peeve: People who come and "nibble" in my kitchen! If I wanted you to eat in my kitchen, I would FEED you in my kitchen! If you want to be in my kitchen for a "constructive" reason I will put your ass to work. If you don't want to work, then keep the hell out!

P.S. Reaching in to grab "just a taste" of turkey when I am in the middle of carving it is WAY dangerous (AMY!!!! )

Phew! That was close! Both turkeys will fit in one oven - actually it's not the birds, but the roasting pans, took some experimentation but we're good to go.

Tofurkey is ebil!!!

We're doing 2 14-pounders this year instead of one Birdzilla. More legs, it seems to me, and they'll cook faster. The birds are thawed and hit the brine today about noon.

Stove broke so we're down to 2 burners so that could be a challenge. Plans for chestnut-sausage dressing as well as traditional sage. For me, Thanksgiving is all about the stuffing, and that's where I'll be concentrating my efforts, with shock and awe.

T minus 33 though, and so far everything's quiet.

My thoughts exactly on the extra legs theory. We're doing the traditional stuffing. One of our guests is bringing sausage stuffing.

Helpful Hint #1 - For the extra stuffing that doesn't fit in the bird, pour a little turkey stock over it when you heat it up. Not quite the same, but close. If you don't have turkey stock, even canned chicken broth improves it.

Off to make the brine....

Since our Thanksgiving was over 6 weeks ago, my solution to Christmas, SWISS CHALET!!!

No dishes, No cooking, only down fall, no left overs!:(

Happy Day's :D

So... who is eating anything other than Turkey. Venison? (or Moose), Duck or quali?

A Rib of Beef in a souflet (don't ask - I still haven't mastered it - but it was the most delicious feast ever)

We nearly ran over a deer yesterday, that would have been great for Christmas :D Most of the road kill Pheasant look past their best, but I'll drive round till we find one :p
