Starting this morning, we've adopted a new forum in our poetry community: the Poets' Hangout. The Hangout is just that, a place to chat and hang out with the Lit poets, send birthday wishes, flirt, whatever floats your boat. To that end, we've moved the main chat threads like And Other Chitchat and The Bistro to the Hangout. The Poetry Discussion Circle has been subsumed by the main forum. You can still submit poems for workshopping and you can use the standard discussion format (critique two other poems before you ask for critique on your own) or you can use other workshopping threads on the forum like Poetry in Progress or Not for the Thin-Skinned.

The main forum will continue to be the place where we focus on writing. New Poems Reviews will continue there as will all the spontaneous poeting threads like All of a Sudden Passion Suddenly, the fun threads like Three Words or Less and the killer death march threads like 30 Poems in 30 Days. The companion threads for these will also stay in the forum. Will every single post in the main forum be poetry-centered? I doubt it. Will no posts on the Hangout reference poetry and writing? I certainly hope not! There will always be a certain margin of blend between these two forums because we're human, but we wanted to make a place primarily for chat (like the AH) and put the focus on writing poems on the main forum.

Eve, Lauren (who will be more active on the forum again very soon!) and I want your input to keep this poetry world the good, supportive place at Lit it has always been. We're planning to update the Welcome thread, continue the master class series, bring contests back to the forum (including same title challenges and other surprises) and continue to find ways to support poetry at Lit. We can't do it without your help, so please send us your suggestions and continue to use the forums in ways that make poetry and the Lit experience meaningful for you.

I'm glad you addressed that. The Hangout is about poetry, too, and not just chat. And the main forum doesn't have to be as strict as the Poetry Discussion Circle. These two forums make it a little easier to find workshop and certain types of poetry threads here on the main forum. And the Hangout will be a bit more relaxed.

Thank you. (<----Non-poetry response.)

There really won't be any major changes. I know in the past, people have posted threads that weren't very poetry-oriented and they've apologized, "I know this isn't about poetry!" But now we have our Hangout. :)

Aww, one more mouseclick per day. Are you trying to give me carpal tunnel or something?

Excellent decisions, ladies. The PDC was languishing; under-utilized and a bit of a white elephant to most posters on the forum. It was brilliant the first year but as personalities changed and our lives rolled onward, fewer enthusiastic people were participating. I felt far too obligated to post critique there on the few poems submitted since I had been an original participant that pressed for its initiation as a child forum. Now, the weight is gone and I can go chase upbj's, TZ's and UYS's delectable asses :) around the bistro.

Someday, the intense critique writers may return, but until then, I like the potential of the set up. Thanks for all you do.

As usual, you guys are moving a little too fast for me here. I am having trouble understanding the hierarchy here which effects how I find things (usually with some difficulty).

At the highest level there is within the totality of Literotica a section called:

Literotica Discussion Board.

If I click on any of the apparent subdivisions within that, I seem to always jump down two levels in the hierarchy so that I'm at:

Literotica Discussion Board > Main Literotica Forums > WHATEVER I CLICKED ON

which usually means:

Literotica Discussion Board > Main Literotica Forums >
****Poetry Feedback & Discussion

This is where the thread that I am currently writing in seems to be.

If I click on that Poets Hangout link in the first entry of this thread I seem to stay in the Poetry feedback forum and move to a subdivision within that. Thus:

Literotica Discussion Board > Main Literotica Forums > Poetry Feedback & Discussion
Poets' Hangout

suggesting that it is within Poetry Feedback and Discussion on the hierarchy. Yet I cannot find the link to it in the list under Poetry Feedback and Discussion. I have to come to this thread to link to it.

When I get there is has a list of threads that suggest it is on the same level as Poetry Feedback and Discussion, but it's not.

I know that this confusion of mine may seem very stupid, so if you don't suffer fools gladly, just ignore this post. If, however, you have time, I'd appreciate being straightened out.

When you're on the Main Forum's index page, the post hierarchy, displayed there, defaults to the most recent post, thus if the most recent post in the Poetry Feedback and Discussion forum happens to be indexed on the Poet's Hangout sub-forum, that would be the clickable link beside the thread title. Just mark the feedback forum in as a browser favourite and you'll always open to the parent Poetry Feedback and Discussion forum.

ETA: The Poet's Hangout will appear at the top of the brower window when you're at the thread index.

The reason that there's a progression from Literotica Discussion Boards to Main Discussion Boards is because there's also the Control Panel menu and search linked in at that level...

I've always liked the way the BDSM forum was set up in this same framework. This is a fine idea. Seems like we really don't have enough people to support both boards yet, but maybe this will bring some new folks in.

I suffer myself gladly all the time, so I'll try to answer. :)

The main Lit discussion board is the "parent" forum. It has various "child" forums, one of which is the PF&D forum. The PF&D forum is, likewise, parent to one "child" forum, what used to be called the "Poetry Discussion Circle" and has now been refashioned into the "Poets' Hangout." If you go to the main page of Lit and click on "bulletin boards" and then, when you get to the main list of forums, click on "Poetry Feedback and Discussion," look at the top of the page. That is where you'll see the link to what is now our only sub (or child) forum, the Hangout. If you click on the link to the Hangout, you'll then be in a separate forum from this one, and you'll find the Bistro and various other chat-related threads. If you don't, you can stay in the main (or parent) forum, where you'll find New Poem Reviews, the "Passion" thread, all the poetry and writing threads. Does that help?

I'm glad people seem to be on board with what we've done. We think it's for the best for the forum to try to separate out our two main purposes, writing and hanging out with each other. It doesn't change anything we want to do here, just gives us a little more room to do it.

Actually the only question I've seen so far was Safe_Bet's about the Lit Blog. We decided not to move that because its primary purpose is for writing blog entries. It had, over time, become more chat oriented and we got to the point where we were moving a lot of posts out of it so people could find blog entries more easily.

Yeah, the Cafe in the BDSM forum and the AH were our models for doing this. And I was happy to see the circle go. I always felt that we had sufficient places to workshop without a separate forum for it. And I also have thought that the "critique" requirement puts a lot of people off participating.

That's 'cause you're an ovalist and not circular... I understand completely. Hmmpf!

as opposed to carpe diem?

isn't that what fishermen say when the reel in a pollution-eating fish?

YAY! Look who we tempted back with the new arrangement! YAY!

A question, o noble mods: not that it's wrong necessarily, but I'm thinking Radio Free Jezebel should probably be over in the hangout, right? You're probably still detailing everything, so I suspect there's a bunch of stuff that has yet to be sorted out.

I'm amazed at all the work y'all seem to have put in on this project. That has to be a big quest, going through all those threads.

I'm gonna go hunt down the old MTVM 'You Jey' thread too, just for grins.

ohai - will the bistro links in the first posts still work okay or do I need to tweak them somehow?

I had a very strange dream this afternoon myself.

PS Like my av? That's a boob to cheer for Dave and one for Yuke!

i gotta tell ya...it's kinda weird to picture you with clevage......but I'm doing it

Hey wait.

Aren't we already breaking the rules in here, chatting like this on the PFD instead of the Hangout? Where's our mods with the whips and punishment gear?

Seriously, where are they? Cause I need to be punished. My attitude needs some adjusting.
