Sarah Palin

There is some truth behind that. :( Let's see if I can find a reference.

Okay, here's one. I can probably find others.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZiqexz7aqQ

Here is the transcript of that.

"It has been proven that there is no democracy (in the U.S.).

Rather, it is a dictatorship no different than the dictatorships of Hitler, Napoleon, Mussolini, Genghis Khan, Alexander the Great and the rest of the tyrants.

In the days of crazy Reagan, the American president issued a presidential order to launch a war against Libya, for example. A presidential order to besiege Libya, a presidential order to boycott Libya, and so on.

Is this a democracy or a dictatorship?

There are elections in America now. Along came a black citizen of Kenyan citizen origins, a Muslim, who had studied in an Islamic school in Indonesia. His name is Obama. And the people in the Arab and Islamic world and in Africa applauded this man.

They welcomed him and prayed for him and his success. And they may have been involved in legitimate contribution campaigns to enable him to win the American presidency.

But we were taken by surprise when our African Kenyan brother, who is an American national, made statements that shocked all his supporters in the Arab world. In Africa and the Islamic world. We hope this is merely an elections "clearance sale", as they say in Egypt. In other words, merely an elections lie.

As you know, this is the farce of elections, a person lies and lies to people, just so that they will vote for him. And afterwords, when they say to him: "You promised this and that, he says, "No, this was just elections propaganda."

This is the farce of democracy for you.

Okay - I'm just 2:39 minutes into the speech but I have to ask, Box. Is THIS the damning Barack is my buddy speech?

This is absolutely ridiculous.

I swear, you are either the densest person I've ever run across, or you deserve an Oscar.

That's a god-damned political forum. Hardly what I'd call a reference.

I have some ocean front property in Arizona I need to sell you.[/QUOTE]

I don't mean that one. I mean the Youtube reference where Khadaffi is referring to Obama, in affectionate terms, as his African Brother". That was the one you didn't include in your post.

Given that Alaska is the most socialistic state in the Union, and Palin has done nothing to change that (why would she, since it would make her unelectable there), I think that it is safe to say that her conservative credentials lack credibility.

Mind you, that's fiscal conservatism of which I'm speaking. The Republican Party isn't the party of smaller government anymore. It's the "compassionate conservative" party of the religious right and corporate welfare. It's a pro-business Big Government party, whereas the Democrats are a pro-lawyer Big Government party. That's about the only difference anymore. The social conservatives have won. This nomination confirmed it, once and for all. And cost John McCain my vote.

Not that I'm backing Obama, either. Not sure who I'll vote for, but he or she won't be a candidate of one of the two parties. They might say that a third-party vote is a wasted one, but I differ now. A wasted vote is one given to one of two parties, neither of which share your core principles. The GOP has come full circle. It doesn't stand for me anymore. And the Dems never did.

And Sarahh and Cloudy are my sistahs... we're all sistahs! And Oprah's my bitch. And God's my main man.

Dude, seriously. Because someone says, "he's my brother," does not make it literally so, nor does it necessarily mean the other person to whom they're referring has anything to do with them.

I'm starting to understand Ami's penchant for wanting to disenfranchise certain voters.

Rather than posting a partial transcript, why not just let people hear it and read the subtitles where Khadaffi refers to Obama as his brother. Later on, he says how Obama is practicing politics and telling people what they want to hear, and that he is really on the Arab side. I don't believe him, and I certainly have no affection for Khadaffi; I'm just posting his rantings so people can decide for themselves.

Box, YOU posted the link to the clip yourself!!! Jesus!

I just watched for awhile and typed the transcript as it happened. Once I got to 2:39 I stopped because I couldn't believe I'd wasted that much time viewing it.

You're reaching here. Really.

Fucking ridiculous.

Do you consider Sarahh and Cloudy to be your friends? Of course, very close friends, which is why you might call them "Sistahs." Khadaffi is referring to Obama as his "Brother" which is saying there is a close and affectionate relationship between them. In other owrds, Khadaffi considers Obama to be a friend. Whether Obama returns thae friendship is another matter, and I doubt if he does.

Of course. I'm just saying that those who describe Khadaffi and Obama as being friends have some basis for that belief. I said so in response to another posting on the previous page.

Don't shoot the messenger.

You aren't just delivering the message, Box.

You also agreed with the message, and said that, obviously, since he called him brother, that there must be some basis in fact.

I disagree.

I do not believe that Obama has any kindly feelings toward Khadaffi. I don't know about the reverse, but it seems as though he does.

All I have said is that there are some who believe that Obama and Khadaffi are friends. This was said in response to a previous post on this thread, and I included some links that might explain why some people have that idea. I have no hidden agenda. With me, what you see or read or hear is what you get. If I say it was a hot day today, I mean the temperature was well into the 90's or higher. If I say I write smut, I mean I write smut.

So just to be clear. Do YOU believe that?

As I have said several times: No, I don't believe Obama harbors any warm feelings of affection for Khadiffi. Khadiaafi may feel affectionate toward Obama, or he may be just lying about it. Personally, I believe that when you refer to somebody, who is not an actual relative, as a brother or sister, you are expressing affectionate feelings toward that person.

Look, Box...

If you can't see any other points, how about these two...

One: Do you speak that language? No? Me neither. Therefore, a translation added to a YouTube video is not exactly an authoritative translation. How do you know that is what is actually what is being said?

Two: IF the translation IS accurate... what do you think the motivations of the speaker might possibly be? I mean, do you consider that nutjob a reliable source of truth? Because if you do... damn.

Only to the blatantly naive.

It's crony political play from Khadaffi. Khadaffi, just like Saddam, is not great friends with islamic fundies. Cause they want power, and Khadaffi is not keen on sharing. He wants to downplay the "death to America" image, shift focus away from him being an oppressive dictator and play the part of modern statesman to his base and to his closest north African neighbors. Also, if he can get on the good side of America, he hopes they western world will conveniently look the other way at his human rights violations, like we do in for instance Egypt and Saudi Arabia.

So that's where my friend got the idea that Khadaffi and Obama are friends? From a YouTube video?

Oi vay iz mir.

Hey box,

this is a palin thread.

for weird stuff, Republican slime on Obama that you can endorse, go to the Obama and ed'n thread. there i've just posted "proof" that Obam is a Muslim; a feast for tiny minds.

i love this one about Palin's travels including Ireland. her refueling stop on the way to Kuwait!

i think we should add too, that she knows France. last year she sampled some Dijon mustard.

i think a pile of petty, mean, and even corrupt stuff is being found that the quickie vet did not find.

and what the fuck was the inquiry to the librarian about how to remove a book? i know, just hypothetical.

hey i love some far right nutbars like Pat Buchanan, but as the line goes, "to call her stupid is an insult to all the stupid people of the world."

big article on palin's record

esp. croneyism,

some non trivia

good new york times article on croneyism

[As Governor] Ms. Palin chose Talis Colberg, a borough assemblyman from the Matanuska valley, as her attorney general, provoking a bewildered question from the legal community: “Who?” Mr. Colberg, who did not return calls, moved from a one-room building in the valley to one of the most powerful offices in the state, supervising some 500 people.

“I called him and asked, ‘Do you know how to supervise people?’ ” said a family friend, Kathy Wells. “He said, ‘No, but I think I’ll get some help.’ ”

The Wasilla High School yearbook archive now doubles as a veritable directory of state government. Ms. Palin appointed Mr. Bitney, her former junior high school band-mate, as her legislative director and chose another classmate, Joe Austerman, to manage the economic development office for $82,908 a year. Mr. Austerman had established an Alaska franchise for Mailboxes Etc

The comparisons with George Bush, at a junior level, seem to be emerging.

I did business with a Saudi for over 10 years. He always called me "his brother" though the old so in so would have skinned me alive for sixpence. Brother didn't denote friendship or even liking rather 'someone whose relationship I value because there's something in it for me' .We shouldn't accept translations at face value even when they are accurate. :)

Daddy's Roommate, book

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/09/13/author-of-book-palin-targ_n_126236.html

On Sunday, the New York Times fleshed out rumors that as mayor of Wasilla, Palin had asked the town's librarian to remove certain books from the library's shelves. Citing contemporary news accounts and witnesses - including Palin's predecessor, John Stein, and her former campaign manager, Laura Chase - the paper reported that:

In 1995, Ms. Palin, then a city councilwoman, told colleagues that she had noticed the book "Daddy's Roommate" on the shelves and that it did not belong there, according to Ms. Chase and Mr. Stein. Ms. Chase read the book, which helps children understand homosexuality, and said it was inoffensive; she suggested that Ms. Palin read it.

"Sarah said she didn't need to read that stuff," Ms. Chase said. "It was disturbing that someone would be willing to remove a book from the library and she didn't even read it."

Gaddafi called him "brother," so they must have a close relationship. It was on a YouTube video and everything.
