Is LIT a "Porn" site?

Ok so that settles it. Or not.

I would have thought that "A place to record prostitutes" was the local Police station and Lit isn't that.

How DO you record prostitutes? Audio? Video? Shorthand notebook? Or ratings from 1 to 10 published by the local Chamber of Commerce or Citizens' Advice Bureau?

There's a whole multi-page ongoing thread on the difference between porn and erotica here. The most useful definition for my money is, porn is intended to do no more than sexually excite or titillate, while erotica has pretensions toward literature.

What Literotica is is moot, but who would want to visit a site called "Literporn"? It sounds like some sort of obscenity involving cat boxes.

Is it moot, Zoot?

I think it is pertinent, as we are participating. We help define it.

Okay... since you asked...

I first visited here years ago just to read. I never ventured to the other areas here. I never even read in the forums, strictly stories. Reading the stories doesn't really get me hot and bothered... I enjoy reading them, but don't feel aroused by it. (It never really occured to me that others masturbate to stories here, until I got comments on something I had written. That was an eye-opener. lol)

Hubby asked me one day a few years ago, looking over my shoulder, "So you're reading porn again, huh?" and laughed. I gasped and said, "I am NOT reading porn... it's, um... just a 'racy' kind of story... not porn at all... there are no pics or videos, just a story... " (I thought of it much the same as romance stories you can buy at the grocery store...but a little more vivid and detailed. I guess I consider porn to be illustrated... and then in varying degrees, but I don't know why. Keep in mind, I've led a sheltered life, and I have probably seen only about 4 or 5 movies, and not much beyond Playboy. ;) )

Anyway, the categories I tend to read are pretty tame, and I guess I don't consider the vanilla flavor to be "porn" per se. (Maybe if I had a little exposure to "banana split" or some "raspberry sherbet" I'd change my tune.) lol :D

Interesting... "porn" (for you) is visual. So my AV does make this a porn site!

or no?

:D

It's blocked at many areas of employment.

Mine, for one.

Someone knows "porn" when they see it.

And I know prudes when I hear about them.

I know places of employment that block/restrict/remove... itunes, Instant messaging, web cams.... etc.

Blocking might indicate that "the powers that be" consider something a "distraction" from work related productivity, but not necessarily because it is pornographic. Though it MAY be both!

I have a friend whose computer was provided by her company. She doesn't dare come near this place because she knows her computer tells her company where she's been.

She can't download my e-books either.

Porn versus erotica: the answer I seem to hear most often is, (in short) - "Erotica is what I write. Smutty porn stories are what everyone else on this smutty site writes." :D

LAUREL!!!

Yes, but what do YOU say?

it's a "smut" site?:D

In addition, bandwidth is a limited resource for most entities. Applications and websites that are bandwidth intensive may be blocked or limited. Many colleges will also limit bandwidth to dorms for certain apps. I have seen movie downloads eat up 19 Mbps of 20 Mbps worth of bandwidth. The customer was paying about $3k per month for that circuit. Not an efficient use of shared resources.

Is Literotica a Porn site or an erotica site? Oh my!

Let's see. The name starts with Liter, which suggests literary qualities of some measure. So, I suppose this website has or had highbrow intentions at some point. The name also ends with erotica, which lends even more support for the Erotica Site origins theory. But what's in a name, really? Literotica should be judged not by the color of its skin, but by the content of its character.

Literotica has stories about men and women fucking, stories about men and men fucking, and stories about women and women fucking. This is all well and good. People enjoy fucking, and reading about it can be as educational as it is stimulating. Educational and Stimulating are hallmarks of great literature. When I read pornography, the characters and events are frequently very memorable. People and scenes often come alive in my head as I read. I grow immersed and sometimes utterly lost in the moment. It never fails to amaze me how a hearty rush of ejaculate can flash-burn the details of a sizzling erotic story into my memory, or how often I find stories here at Lit that have precisely that affect on me.

That I cum, does that make Literotica's lit great pornography or great erotica? It would be arrogant of me, perhaps, to presume to be the lone, quivering yardstick. This website posts stories and allows its readers to vote. It's very democratic, really. I come here, and it makes me proud to be an American. I vote, and I usually vote very favorably. But it's not just me. Thousands and thousands of others come to Lit every day, the world over, to read the stories, to become educated and stimulated, and to participate in the last great bastion of democracy. We vote. We matter. Democracy wins the day, and we are all rewarded for it. Whether we read to cum solo, to learn a new technique, or simply to charge-up for a lover, we all benefit from reading erotica. If nothing else, erotica makes us better readers from sheer reading practice alone. Educational, stimulating, memorable and rewarding. . . does that make Lit's stories erotica, or is it pornography?

Define pornography? Screw it. The question is as loaded as my cock. One man's pornography is another man's erotica, and it will always be that way. We all live on different levels of sexual experience and pleasure. Ass-fucking stories may curl the short hairs of the moral majority, but the same stories will barely raise an eyebrow to the guy who, for the past thirty years, has been luring fire ants to crawl up his urethra before gang-fucking wildebeast. Not that I enjoy reading such stories, but you get my point.

We're all adults, and we all read what we enjoy. The truly adult among us don't waste our time labeling others by what they practice in their bedrooms or on kitchen countertops or their favorite anthill. We accept other adults for who they are, and we sure as hell don't try to backhandedly label them by what they read. It is only the small-minded, wannabe-adults who slither among us, who scramble desperately to be perceived superior, who puff themselves up and pound pulpits and waste their time and ours defining what is and what is not "pornography."

I *like* you. :rose:

A Laurel sighting! :rose:

I like your answer. Something along the lines of - everyone on this site is a pervert, except for me.

:D

or no?

actually... for me, most drawings aren't. weird, huh...

Strictly the visual, true to life, representations of sexual activities is what I consider porn. And to further clarify... I think of porn as penetration, but not limited to just that. Like others before me have said, I know it when I see it. It is really difficult for me to describe, but I can identify it right away when viewing it. It's easier for me to think of drawings as a form of art I guess. Maybe because I have taken art classes, and haven't thought of any of the subjects we covered there as porn.

I think I am just naive enough to think that I am incapable of subjecting myself to or participating in the enjoyment of viewing (gasp) porn. lol Now erotica on the other hand...

I think the original quote was, "Erotica is what I like. Pornography is what you like, you pervert!"

Hmmmm, the stories section can't be porn because the females depicted have a larger vocabulary than "Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah . . . etc." like the women in the Daily Free Video. Therefore, Lit must be Erotica and not porn. Q.E.D.

Plunder my voluptuous honeypot with your turgid sword, oh, mighty swain! Oh, forsooth, I am experiencing harmonies of frictal esctasies!
