I respect Christianity as a special and important part of the heritage of western society, along side the Greco-Roman heritage. I also believe that most of what is identified in Christianity as sin is in fact sin and forms the basis of a civilized and sane social order. Christianity is a part of western man's heritage and should be respected and even encouraged to influence public life due to its special historical place in our civilization.
Personally, however, I don't believe that the supernatural aspects of it are true. I also don't believe, much as I would like to, that there is a hell from which sinners need to be saved. I definitely believe in the reality of sin and that we have all fallen short of the perfection of the Creator but I don't believe there is a hell in which we will be punished. I would in fact almost like to believe there is because I believe in justice but alas I don't think so. It just seems too far fetched; though I will say it is interesting that hell is associated with the interior of the earth and we now know that the interior of the earth is partly molten. So who really knows?
