There are a lot of Irish in this town and I know quite a few who have a need for the drink, luckily Rons not one of them, but since marrying him I have been drawn into the Irish community more especially as Rons brother in law is Irish. It was Ron's mother who was Irish and I would have liked to find out more of that side of the family tree but it seems the Irish were pretty lacksidaisickle about keeping records. BTW one pretty odd thing I have been married to two Rons both had an Irish mother, both were one of twins (though the former could never carry both her twins to term) and both were Geminis and as different as chalk and cheese. The first Ron was so introverted as to be turned inside out and this Ron is really outgoing.
At least it means I never call out the wrong name in moments of passion!

:D You are soooo bad! Gotta luv them silver linings, wherever they might show up.

It's a Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Delaware thing mostly. That said, I remember having the southern equivalent as a kid. My grandmother would cook us eggs and "liver mush". Basically pork liver and cornmeal, with no other mystery meat added (though some manufacturers allow for head parts as well). For whatever reason, I liked it. Then.

It is considered more tolerable than scrapple. Going from an almost thirty year old memory of liver mush versus a more recent memory of scrapple, I have to agree. Livermush is certainly more tolerable. This is, however, like saying that dropping a bowling ball on your foot is more tolerable than having a horse step on that foot.

LOL

My grandmother also made a simple cornmeal mush. She would put it in a loaf pan and bake it, then slice it and fry it. Much better alternative to scrapple!

Yup, the livermush we had was made by my great uncle Jimmy from the pigs on his farm (which shared a property line with my grandparents, so that smell was ever-present in the drive in).

Probably why it was so good, as compared to more recent samplings of similar products.

Tut I feel so hungry now just when it's time for bed oh BTW I am on a diet and have lost 6lbs this week!

Wow! That is awesome, hun. I always knew you were talented :)

Haven't been writing lately, but I've been doing other stuff. Some people here might be able to appreciate this. Y'all have seen the hemp chokers I made my gals, right? I wanted on something a bit more serious for formal wear in public, so I decided to work in silver. Anybody can buy a chain and make a necklace out of it. I decided to just get some sterling silver wire and weave necklaces out of it for them. Here's the result.

The second shot shows the bulk wire, and the necklace from a different angle. It's very flexible, and not terribly difficult. I like it anyway...

You'll have to unwrap it and find out, won't you?
As you well know, I do not "unwrap" such packages.

I am quite the unpatient type. I rip.
We weren't quite Swedish enough to do the candles-on-the-head thing, (I was the oldest and would surely have set something on fire anyway) but Grandma Swencarljohannpederolaffson's decor did feature a great deal of rosemale and Dala horses.

bj
Come on baby, light my fire / Come on baby, light my fire / Try to set the night on fire would probably be inappropriate here, wouldn't it?

I have this vision of you as (a rather young) Grandma Swencarljohannpederolaffson and a head full of light.

Hhum.

Oh, it's probably just some Scandinavian thing.

Grits are definitely an aquired taste. It's more so a textural thing, as it doesn't have much of an independent flavor. It's a southern staple, often dressed up with goo gobs of butter or cheese, both of which test my gag reflex! If I eat it at all, it has to be plain and simple; salt and pepper....that's it. Goes pretty well with fried fish (whiting/catfish especially). I can count the times in a year that I have grits, on one hand.....and I'd still have a few digits left over.
How does the vinegar with fish and chips work? I've always heard of it, but can't really picture the combination. I'm hoping it's better than salt n' vinegar potato chips....agghh!

I love grits! I've made them but I'm really looking forward to living in the South where they're a staple. The grits available up here on the tundra are not so good. And I do like vinegar on fish and chips, but salt and vinegar potato chips, which are very popular here in Maine (not sure why) are not so appealing to me. Too vinegary. They make my mouth go all puckery--in a bad "yuck I don't like this" kinda way.

T-zed, sorry bout the Svede/Norweg lutefisk confusion. Whoever made it (and the Svedish minister's wife made it at Christmas every year), I don't like it!

I can eat grits all sorts of ways, but it's a take it or leave it thing for me. I'm not big on them.

Salt and vinegar chips though? I can get into those, sometimes. Depends on the manufacturer.

I'm not big on potato chips of any kind. Popcorn is more my kinda salty snacky thing. In fact, yesterday was the first day in at least two years that I ate fast food. I had a junior bacon cheeseburger and small fries from Wendy's. Then I went to Dairy Queen and got a banana cream pie blizzard. That's it. Fast food outta my system for another few years. (And yes, my tummy was not happy about an hour after eating it!)

I eat fast food all too often. I'm on the road a lot, so it is tough to do otherwise.

*Nods*

Working at home makes it easy to avoid fast food. And when I want that sort of thing, I can usually make a somewhat healthier version of it myself. When I had a long commute and worked for a big company, I ate fast food at least twice a week. I really think avoiding it makes a difference in the way I feel now. I can't wait for my daughter to come to live with us so I can teach her how to cook better and wean her off that steady diet of junk food. Her dad can't (i.e., won't) cook. Every time I ask her what she had for dinner or whatever meal it's either fast food or some processed thing they bought at the supermarket. Grrrr.

I work from home too. When I'm home, I eat better. But I'm in the field a lot for work, and that means convenience food. I try to hit 7-11, as I can usually trust that their deli sandwiches are fresh. Sometimes there is no good choice though.

Scrapple is nothing at all like corned beef hash. For one, corned beef hash is actually edible. Second, did I mention that corned beef hash is edible? Scarpple

That depends on the size of the horse, and where abouts on your foot they step, and how much of their weight actually goes into it... and yes I am speaking from experiance

speaking of food oddieties does anyone know why having a summer cold would make me crave pizza? I've had it four times in the last two days! I sleep, eat pizza, putter, realize how hot it is, seek air condioning until I absoultly need to sleep again, then start the whole process over again. I was thinking about chicken soup, but I think it would melt me.

wow,( looks over post)I am cranky when I'm sick

alright I am out of pizza back to bed

No confusion, m'dear. Whichever Scandihoovian cultural variant is responsible for lutefisk, it seems to have spread among the several nationalities like plague.

Or worse than plague. After all, people ate the stuff.

I mean, I can't like blame the Finns or Swedes for the fact that my grandmom made that (obscene noun elided).

But she also made lefse and fattigman and let me eat that instead.

Sometimes, anyway.

I named both because I've had both happen to me. Horse hurt worse than the bowling ball because the ornery bastard would not move afterwards. First time I ever hit a horse.

Actually, I have only hit a horse twice in my life, and the second time was that same horse. Mean, ornery cuss of a mule-headed sumbitch. He moved so blasted fast though. Riding that horse was like flying in a plane. He could jump too, but I was always too nervous to pull it off. I was convinced he'd let me get up in the stirrups and then just stop dead in front of the jump. He did that to my uncle a coupla times. Uncle C, meet airtime. *thud*

yeah, I went through the obligitory I want a pony period of my life, and after 5 years of fighting the damed things I was sick of them. I am not natrally an agressive person, so when my horse figured me out I was kinda fucked. The stepping on wasnt too bad, it was quick, and the horse didn't have time to lay his weight into me. I didnt hit the horse until he bit me. I still have the scar, but come to think of it the horse might too. Yeah needless to say I went off to college, and stayed clear of the equine science department, there are some things I've simply had enough of.

well I'm off to bed, again, yet I thought I'd leave you all with what little I have acomplished this day

redneck hairstyling

he twists the strands around his fingers
gold damp with sweat
fun woven knots
wont come out soon
scent of heat
released as he pulls

released as he pulls
inflamed lips brush
then part
then slide
he plays with the notions
like a puppeteer
just learning how fun the craft can be

Can't you take a packed lunch?

Awwww get well soon hunny. Funny you should say about cravings now I am not usually a salad person but this last week I have gone mad for them probably why I have lost the weight I want salad with everything even breakfast! So is it normal for a lady of my advancing years to be craving?

um... no.
LOL

If you go to Root's, you have to try the fried hearts & gizzards!

...uh, I think not...

It is. And you owe me a nickel.

I can even pronounce 'tak so mycket' and 'var so god' and 'svenska flicka' with a passable accent.

But I am going to check with the Swedish-descent wife of mine to make sure you're not pulling my leg...

*...on the other hand, you pulling my leg is a fantasy I've had for some time now...*
