MMMMMMMM...is Ange making those brownies again ?

I find it terribly sad we can hate someone who at one time meant so much to us.To disavow them is to amputate entire portions of our life. I prefer to try and be compassionate and wish them the best.

The only exception i make to this rule is people who are physically and mentally abusive to others, and even then on has to ask the question what role they played in instigating and prolonging that abuse.

Yes I do my dear. Plus I have a few apples I have to use up and I'm making a little granola-apple cobbler to serve over ice cream. Want some?

I try to avoid blame the victim mentality. Well, blame the anybody. Blame is not a productive activity. It is, however, worthwhile for a community to stand up to abusers and tell them to stop. Generally someone who abuses will do so until such time as he or she realizes that it isn't acceptable behavior. Quiet acquiescence to such behavior sends the abuser the message "go ahead--fair game."

Also someone who is abusive may engage in that behavior for want of better coping skills. So Yes, be compassionate by all means, but also be clear. Abuse, torment, nastiness: unacceptable.

So says the Dora. :D:rolleyes:

I should change my name to Cassandra. Pandora and Cassandra together could start a prediction biz. :D

Mr. Ex once told me that every human interaction is a battle where there must ultimately be a winner and a loser. I think that's a terribly sad way to see the world. Blame and guilt are useless emotions. They do nothing but generate negativity. They waste energy that can be spent in productive creative ways.

Besides, giggling tends to drive torturers crazy.

Just ask Homburg.

Sometimes giggling is the desired effect. Sometimes what causes giggling can be more torturous than alternatives.

Either way, I could use some giggling around here today. All of our emoticons are sad ones. Dark clouds today...

I prefer to see it as tops and bottoms, instead of winners and losers. After all, tops and bottoms can interact, get differing results, and both can still be fulfilled by the interaction. Yet, sometimes, someone may still get fucked in the ass.

Much more flexible analogue than just winners and losers.

Exactly. Being a bottom no more indicates losing than being a top does winning. ;)

Wow. There's a lot going on here. Whew! In chronological order:

I will head out and grab that book soon. Funny how many "children's books" are so much wiser and deeper when we read them as adults. The Little Prince comes to mind. John Bellairs' The Pedant and the Shuffly. Alice in Wonderland. A Wrinkle in Time. Kipling's Just So Stories. Fairy tales in general.

Please, let's not forget Dr. Seuss's Oh, the Places You'll Go

Cheffamour, is there anything made of chocolate around here anywhere? Dark is good, but there's no bad chocolate.

bj

BJ, here's some more:http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk67/freddheadpix/chocolate-fondue-3-0407-xlg.jpg

The reason is easy. My children love him.

See, I told you. The wise parent NEVER forgets that!

True enough. I've heard it said that one cannot truly hate unless one has loved to the same degree.

At those rare times when I've been angry enough to "hate" someone, it's always been personal, and always someone who was once very important and precious to me, if not someone who continues to be. Once I realized the wiring underneath that board, it was easier to walk in gratitude, even when someone was purposefully poking me with sticks.

But the best thing, I find, to do to those who seem to want to deliberately torture us is to laugh. Not mean laughter, but rather gentle, amused hilarity. When you can see underneath their motives, it becomes clear that they are still, in a sense, motivated by love, by the value you have had to them. 'Each time you try to injure me, I notice only that I continue to be terribly important to you, poor thing.' That sort of sentiment. Compassion becomes natural then.

Besides, giggling tends to drive torturers crazy.

Just ask Homburg.

The reason we hate the ones we once loved the most is BECAUSE we loved them the most. They betrayed that special gift, which was the worst offense.

I'll trade you for some of my made-this-morning rhubarb crisp. I was out in the sun today working hard on the house, came in and had a couple of spoonfuls out of the fridge. Better'n ice cream.

My ex believed exactly the same thing. Winners and losers. AWK. My current says life works best when every interaction results in a winner and a winner. Wise woman, that.

'Night all!

Simply put:

Seuss. Of course. I knew there was something I was leaving out.

Chocolate and STRAWBERRIES. Oh Chef-san, you always know exactly what to do.
*not putting down Ange's brownie, but picking up strawberries with other hand*

Your current is a wise and beautiful woman and should be indulged at all costs - - but you knew that already.

Petite déjeuner

sweetness don't argue
you taste like café au lait
in Paris petit pains feel good
when slathered in butter
or dipped in chocolat chaud

tastes of childhood explored
by jaded palates coated
with revels hidden from morning
in the sans sol caves of Pigalle
shut against the daylight

marmalade framboise is alien
on those tables where ash
and wine spill after midnight
but I taste it in your kiss
when I wake my sweetness

Hi All! I heard this was a pretty cool thread by someone 'in the know'!

I don't cook much myself, but I've recently hired Anthony Bourdain to do it for me. Cook, too.

Can't stay long now but I'll return if that's ok.

Bye everyone! Have a sweet sleep!

But please, Doll, not just any Seuss. That's too easy. Oh the Places... is a daily must read for any kid (and even more important, any adult) who has ever felt like an underdog. It's my bible (well, that and Strunk and White).

Anthony Bourdain reminds me of Lou Reed. He's a Lou Reed who cooks. And Alton Brown always makes me think of Thomas Dolby (because of this song--see what I mean--that song also makes me think of Tzara; I dunno why). I have an old friend (who has known me since I was 13) who always tells me that I have a way of seeing similarities in very odd combinations. Mebbe it helps with the poetry. I dunno. Btw, I love Tony AND Alton, but I think Alton's cerebral geekiness really appeals to me.

Anyway, Bijou love wherever you are, we need a special Bistro responsibility for Boo. Give her the coatcheck (or whatever) and she'll turn it into a salon. I know my Boo. :D

Oh and Cheffington? I threw together a really nice little chicken curry tonight with basmati rice. Very simple, but yummy. Diced chicken and apples and currants and sliced onions and garlic, curry paste and tumeric and coriander. And almon and chopped scallion garnishes. I gotta get my bloggy rolling again.

Tomorrow I think I'll make some rye bread. Haven't made that for about a month. Note to self: make rye bread and write rain poem tomorrow.

Coat check? I don't even own a coat. I love rye bread. And NOone is cooler at what he does than Anthony.

And another thing...

As promised, just posted in Chefzillas Kitchen is Sara's Red Velvet Cake. Okay, so she put the recipe up on the Bistro Fridge a couple of days ago. Seems I have some fans at the Kitchen who are NOT a part of this luscious circus. Go figure.

YUM!!! Oh, and yom to the chicken curry, too.

The difference between yum and yom is?

Is it like Yom Kippur meaning I love kippers?

Yom means "day." in Hebrew. Saying "Yom" to Angeline after the clock strikes midnight is perfectly appropriate. Right, Angie?

Yes. Yom. Mon. (I'm channeling my inner reggae rabbi.)

So, it's technically Monday.

Fuck.Today is not going to be a fun day.

:(

Give yourself a 15 minute break in the middle of it somewhere and take a walk outside. Look at the trees and flowers and concentrate on your breath. It'll be good.
