Bistro Bijou

Phew. Can I lock the Bistro doors? My poor challenge thread is turning into a war zone. Maybe it's the spirit of Mayakowsky/Mayakovsky infusing the thread with anger. Note to self: pick safe poet next week. :)

Good point. Maybe Whitman. He's all sweetness and light and love and shit.

Yes, I'm sending out a ten minute warning till the blast doors close. I used military surplus when I built this place. Good thinkin', huh?

Everybody to the Bistro. I have enough booze, food, board games, C-cells and bubble bath to last until 2036.

a few poems from the past

well this bit of poetry is from my past, but I post it because Anschul
has so kindly requested more, and I like posting to a friendly crowd, so here go

"In a dream"

I was playing with hair
it was dark, soft, and curly
there was laughter, smiles, and love
easy and bright

I was playing with fire
it was hot, intense, and dangerous
there was intrigue, mystery, and curiosity
bright and intense

I was playing with her
it was deep, pasionate, and sublime
there was discovery, liberation, and a new hunger
intense and dark

"Icy fire"

We spent all night fucking
giving each other as much pleasure as we
dared
keeping our voices low
and our hearts high
oh
that
night
filled with candle light
soft snow
beautiful ice
and our warm kisses
the smoldering heat
the warmpth of our hearts
blending together
oh to remember that night
when memory is all I have on this night
now that we have set things right

"all things undone"

The love I wasn't looking for
I was longing for
I was needing
I was oblivious to,then
I was open to, then
I was enveloped in, then
I was torn over
I was astounded by
I was stripped by

then I was
stripped of
astounded and
torn
enveloped in sorrow left
open but empty
oblivious of what I was
needing and knowing only
longing and
looking for your love

Try not to worry about it sweetie. He's just a coward, and he wanted to use you to take a little poke at me. I appreciated your compliment. So have a very relaxing day and think nothing more of it. :rose:

It's ok sweets. Senna says what he wants. Always has. I'm used to him and like him though I know he can be blunt. He isn't the first blunt one on the forum and he won't be the last. :)

Its not ok. Tell this to all those newbies that he has frightened away from this forum with his thoroughly obnoxious and conceited manner. This place is arid and dead because he has been allowed to get away with this crap for years. And I mean allowed by you and the other moderators whose job it was to stop it.

It is not a moderator's job to censure the forum registrants for posting their thoughts and values. If the comment was racist or threatening, yes, but because of obnoxiousness? That wouldn't go over well at all.

Please please let it rest I've said my bit and I don't want my name tagged onto unrest I really enjoy these messageboards and apart from the occassional blip they are fun places to be. Besides which I have been fiddling in photobucket and wanted to see if I had cracked this resizing thing and the image I have been fiddling with doesn't fit now! But you will get it anyway! Fingers crossed!

Hmmm.. if the image is huge you get the scroll/slider bars on the bottom and sides of your window. I think you should try to limit the width and height to something less than that. I also keep in mind the fact that there are posters who are on dial up, so if there's a busy gif or avatar image on the page, it will take them forever to load a screen, that's why it's easier to hotlink without an image or to upload one from your harddrive to the lit server.

You can hotlink to any non-commercial or non-viral website in your post, since doing so will keep the original artists' copyright in tact, plus will usually attribute the content appropriately, it is up to you to be the moral police officer in this instance. If you doubt the content of any post or hotlinked website, just report the post and then the moderators will do their job.

p.s. Yes signature blocks are built the same way, so the image file will load like it does in a post

I suggest you contact Laurel and Manu and get their take on who we should and shouldn't stop. If you read the forum rules, you'll find the limits of what moderators are expected to watch out for. Aside from those, the board polices itself. Senna is allowed to have his opinions, as are you or me or anyone else here who may say things others find unkind, unappealing, unfair, and so on. Unless it is a personal attack that is threatening physcially or about revealing personal information, it's considered free speech, like anywhere. In the past, I've told people--including you--that they might be happier elsewhere because they seem so angry at the way things work here. If they want to do that, it's an option. If they don't, they have take us as we all are.

If you think this place is "arid" then do something to make it less so. Start a thread, a challenge, whatever you can think of to stimulate good writing here. Make suggestions and go for it. That's everyone's responsibility if they want to be an active participant here.

Moderators don't get paid. Our only incentive for doing this is that we love poetry like you and others here do. None of us signed on to be the poetry police. Occasionally I get involved in brouhahahs here and I always regret it when I do because it doesn't help anything and the rules don't change. And I don't make them.

I hope you don't see this as an attack because that isn't my intent at all. I'm just trying to make clear what the role of the moderator at Lit is supposed to be. I love reading your poems and I love reading Senna's poems. I love reading 1201's poems for that matter and he is forever suggesting that I'm doing something underhanded. I'm just here for the poetry and the friendship and laughs.

Anyway, everyone knows that eagleyez is the best poet here. At least that's what he just told me. :)

Oh and you know you can put Senna on ignore if he bugs you. And one last thing--what intimidates newbies varies depending on whose opinion it is. You say people like Senna scare them away. My Erotic Trail used to tell me that pointing out typos or other kinds of errors in poems scares them away. There's no way the moderators here can be all things to all people, so we don't even try.

For what it's worth. I associate your name with~

Poetry that weaves whimsy with careful and moving observation. I adore reading what you have to say about nature, the world around you. You never disappoint!

A wicked, free-wheeling sense of humor that is delightful to be near. I just about peed myself the day you called me cack-handed I laughed so much.

A kind-heart, intelligent good soul.

That's it. :)

Hey y'all, I have had an extremely, incredibly, amazingly long and rewarding, yet emotionally draining, weekend. I'm planning on sitting at the end of the bar and putting my head down. I realise that people are fired up, and I honestly don't know why, but could we please keep this one spot light and fun?

I'm gonna rest my head and smile a bit. Hugs for all from the cheerful exhausted guy at the end of the bar.

Everything is cool with me and with El and UYS and Champ too, I'm sure. We're all just yknow poets. :)

Would you like a cognac and a backrub? :)

Sure buddy. I've missed you, haven't been around much when you are of late. :)

<turns up the REM cd>

It is a loooong story, Ange. bij knows, as do a few other people. It's a happy one, and I am desperately hoping it stays that way.

The short version is that I went on a quest, faced the dragon in terrible and glorious combat, and got the girl. Answered the call, refused it, entered the inmost cave, suffered the ordeal, took the long road home. Joe Campbell would've approved.

... to bring a measure of Grace to the world ...

You'll forgive me if a hum a few bars of "Impossible dream". Self-indulgent, but hey...
