Yep. Port of Call is worth contending with the crowds once or twice. There are too many other fine options, though.

I'm adding Crabby Jack's to my list for next time.

TV Chef Axed Over Cooked-Up Resume

NEW YORK (March 3) - After rising to culinary stardom preparing impossible meals on his Food Network series, Robert Irvine has met an obstacle his kitchen prowess couldn't overcome - an embellished resume.

The star of "Dinner: Impossible" has acknowledged fabricating some of the more fantastic parts of his resume, including having cooked for Britain's Royal Family and various U.S. presidents and that he has been knighted.

Following the revelations, the network announced it would not renew Irvine's contract, though it would air the remaining episodes of the current season, the series' fourth.

"I was wrong to exaggerate in statements related to my experiences in the White House and the Royal Family," Irvine said in a written statement. "I am truly sorry for misleading people and misstating the facts."

The Food Network said it might revisit its decision at the end of this season, but for now would begin searching for a new host for the series, which challenged Irvine to cook under arduous conditions.

"We appreciate Robert's remorse about his actions...but for now we will be looking for a replacement host," the network said in a written release.

"We rely on the trust that our viewers have in the accuracy of the information we present, and Robert challenged that trust."

Some of Irvine's embellishments do appear to have some basis in truth. No one is disputing his time on the royal yacht Britannia after completing his culinary training in the Royal Navy.

He did spend time on a royal yacht after completing his culinary training and he has worked at the White House, but not as a personal chef to the last four presidents, as promotional material for the show suggests.

Irvine, who is from England, first acknowledged the fabrications in a Feb. 17 story in the St. Petersburg Times.

I have a salad coming together in my mind. I love this stage, when culinary ideas are just starting to coalesce, before stepping foot in the kitchen. Combinations of flavors, aromas, textures, colors. Striving for a balance, so that each element complements and enhances each other. These ideas often come to me, as many ideas do, on my morning hikes. Mentally adding and subtracting ingredients, until it's ready to try. I will often tweak these recipes after trying them, but only slightly. This one is very exciting to me, and it's almost ready for prime time. I can smell it. Taste it. Feel the texture in my mouth.

Yeah, I'm a food geek.

*shrug*

I love reading this thread. Just thought I'd let you know. You guys would be absolutely horrified at what I eat (or don't eat.) But I admire your passion.

I'm glad you like the thread. It's a definite favorite of mine, mainly because of the cast of crazies herein.

I don't horrify easily. And you may be surprised at the quantity of food that I eat on a given day. Cooking is a passion of mine. As is eating, to a lesser extent, but I have found that the less I eat, the more I savor (within reason). I try to make every bite count, these days.

Probably not. Unless you are secretly a delicate hummingbird sipping nectar? Kidding. I always assume that people who love food are very aware of quality trumping quantity.

TV Chef Axed Over Cooked-Up Resume...

Damn. I'm sorry to hear this. I enjoyed the show and Robert is a skilled chef. It's a shame to screw up your career over something so ridiculous. I can see a little "embellishing" on a resume, but who thinks they can get away with claiming things that can so easily be disproved?

Sad. The fabricated facts made no difference in his performance on the show, and they likely weren't a deciding factor in his hiring. It was a stupid mistake, and one he's probably been kicking himself for ever since making it. At any rate, I wish him continued success in whatever he does.

Beware of the Foodgasm Snobs. The will get your sugar free jello recipes and then spew you out of their mouths like warm water.
