Slivovitz packs a wallop, that was on the table for EVERY dinner at my Grandparent's house, along with the shot glasses, and I have a feeling that Grandpa's slivovitz might have been the homemade variety.;)

As for the slanina, I remember eating that as a kid, I remember Grandpa getting it out of the fridge, it would be this slab of heavily smoked pig, coated in tons of bright red paprika, and the butcher would wrap it in that heavy waxed on one side butcher paper, that made this awesome crinkly sound when opened. Grandpa would then pull out his pocket knife and cut off a long strip, then chop it into bite sized pieces for us to share...Ahhh memories.

I love that. So many deeply ingrained memories tied to food. Most of my culinary adventures growing up weren't nearly so exciting, though. I remember a particular queso dip that my grandma made with velveeta and salsa. We had just returned to their RV from a late-fall boat tour of Crater Lake, and we were practically frozen solid. That hot queso, scooped up with Fritos, was nothing short of heaven to my frostbitten tastebuds.

I love Kalua Pua'a.

If you had any time on Oahu, I could direct you to the BEST plate lunch on the island. Keneke's

YUMMMMM!

Alas, no time at all on Oahu this trip, apart from a plane change in Honolulu. But kalua pua'a is indeed the star attraction of our luau. I'm really looking forward to the ahi poke, too.

According to Vikingstone, you could borrow my WS garlic press to do the job. ;)

I only use titanium garlic presses but thanks.

How are you gonna beat someone to death with that?

Well, I would.....hey wait a minute. I want a lawyer.

That Pete. He's a cagey one.

Next time I say we try "good cop, bad cop" on him, baby. You can be the bad cop.

Pardon my farming as my tractoring was mostly done using Allis Chalmers model B's and CA's. We can make anything work. I'm guessing the connect is a rotating shaft?

ah, yes, didn't understand your question. sorry.

3 point.

We have a place in town that makes fresh ahi poké daily. YUMMMMM

Are you getting the truckload of fresh garlic from Gilroy?

The son wanted rice krispie squares so I picked up some marshmallows at the store today.

Used real butter and added some vanilla.

He says they're the best of all and I should sell them.

I love 12 year old boys. :D

Send them to me and I will critique them. Actually, I want the trip back to being 12 when I bite into one.

And they occasionally make Tako poké, double yum if made with baby tako.

Double chewy if made with an old one. Give your jaws a workout.

But I loves me some tako, too. Matter of fact, there's precious little of the bounty of the sea that I don't adore, and I've sampled more than my share. I've even had copious quantities of sea cucumber. Hideous looking creature, but you only eat the thin longitudinal strips of muscle. Taste and texture a bit like calamari, but more flavorsome.

I am cooking tonight!

Moosestooth pizza - Solstice Chicken

and I need to go pick it up.

I agree. Love food from the sea, but it's pizza this evening and I'm not really cooking.

Til laters.

*grins*

Did you dust your face and hair with flour before serving them?

Yeah, I cracked your code, there. I think the biggest hint was when you said "and I need to go pick it up." :D

Enjoy, my friend.

I realize this thread is a year and a half old, so I've got a lot of reading to do.

Nice one tortoise.
