I couldn't stand that piece of crap either. Although the movie that is on the sci-fi channel right now is pretty bad. The spec forces types are wearing bmx bike gear as body armor and talking all the time.

They didn't even bother to paint the bike riding gear, it's semi shiney black plastic.
Were you watching House of the Dead 2 at the same time I was?! That movie was freaking hilarious! I was about to go to bed when it came on (having just finished watching the similarly funny Route 666) but I thought "well, let's try this" and I ended up watching the whole thing.

RAAAAR ZOMBIE CHEERLEADER WILL BITE OFF YOUR HEAD!

And I am guessing this (The Pet) is yet another movie made by the mainstream who imagine themselves to understand and know what our lifestyle is about?

actually, the man who made the movie went through alot to get the viewpoints of people actually in the lifestyle before making the movie. though the only thing i think i'm not gonna like about it is eventually it goes into a thing about illegal slave trades....the trailer for 'the pet'

That can work sometimes like the guy who did Preaching To The Perverted, but more often it is about making money and 'interpreting' the reality to appeal to the perceived more sizeable mainstream audience regardless of how close or far removed it is from the truth.

Well, I think most movies are made by people who imagine they understand! There are always "consultants" on movies, but most of the time authors and directors make up whatever story they want. :)

Bought the movie, wish I didn't, using said DVD as a coaster for the coffee cup.

actually, the whole thing is about people illegally trading women to sell their organs on the black market.

the 'pet' part, with the characters, is very minimal and 100% non sexual.

Oddity, the bottom of your coffee mug is too good for the dvd!

Selling organs on the black market????

Damn....

It does sound like the community is being sold a bill of goods...

*shrugz*

"The Pet" should be arriving in my mailbox today. It didn't have to come from another delivery center, so Netflix has plenty of copies.

Which is why I don't go out of my way to see the latest D/s themed offering, nor do I find they are usually worth the effort. I'm waiting for someone in the industry, and into D/s, and with the ability to step outside the commercialised steel box, to make something resembling real, if not based on a real story, preferrably not reliant of clubs and being seen but more into a life lived on a daily level.

Even if they did, half of us would love it , and the other half would cry bullshit.

The problem is also that making movies is about making money and appealing to the core of real bdsm isn't that mainstream. A little independent company could pull it off with no-name actors if someone with deep pockets were to fund it.

That would be wonderful, but I'm not sure it would sell - it would probably have to be independently financed. Maybe we could all pool our money and commission a filmmaker. :D

I will be watching The Pet with the same look on my face that I just had for the past 90 minutes...total skepticism and the occasional laugh. Daddy just had me watch the Jim Garrison tapes so we could chat about the JFK assassination...it was about as funny as The Pet is going to be! I plan to approach it from a comedic perspective. Like..."what is this total crap?!" And laugh myself silly the whole time.

I'll be sure to report back when I've seen it.

LOL I read this one outloud to K and he laughed and nodded. That was quite possibly one of the stupidest movies ever.

We could go CLASS ACTION!!!!!

So I'm about 20 minutes into The Pet, and I just want to give a preliminary review.

Ahahahahahahahahahaha! *wipes tears from eyes*

I'd also like to point out that "our reality" is so freaking diverse and personal that no one will be pleased. I was really happy with how a recent indie protrayed the Pro Domme/client "crossing the line" dynamic in a really honest way. Most of the pros I know responded really well to the film also, but there's always one or two people who are like "I hated that character" that I loved or whatever. I'll settle for something like Secretary, which is just a good movie with characters whose motives aren't necessarily "what I'd do" but seem possible in the context of the world being presented, in that case a little kooky amped up and surreal a reality.

As for movies, it's the ones that otherwise smart people I know looooooove that just suck. Like "dude the emperor has no clothes" suck.

Waking Life? and A Scanner Darkly?

OMG.

And "This Life Aquatic" I felt so taken advantage of -- I got half through it and didn't want to go forward any longer. That's the worst - if it's so bad you only get 10 minutes in at least it's not so bad.

I was disappointed in A Scanner Darkly, too, but I just attributed it to the fact that I prefer live-action to animation, even if that was a blend of both.

I was confused the first time I saw it. Had a wtf was that moment. It kept coming on HBO. I kept catching piece of it. I think I get the appeal now. Not best movie ever, but a cute.

OMG, The Life Aquatic is awesome. I will admit though, that I am in a small sub-section of people that can appreciate it on a different level than most by comparing it to the reality of that sort of job and culture.

I put The Pet in my Netflix queue ..I just wanna see it out of curiosity. Are there any good sex scenes? If so, then it won't be a total waste of time.

Watched the Pet last night. You know how sometimes you have to willfully suspend your disbelief? As in, we know space and time travel isn't possible yet, so we ignore the fact that some of the Star Trek's take place in our times, in order to enjoy the movie. Before you pop this into the DVD player, take your disbelief out in the back yard and shoot the damn thing because you're never gonna get through this movie otherwise.

The story line was (for me) highly implausible, so they needed really great acting and direction to pull it off. They didn't have it. It didn't even work as an accidental comedy.

The good news is, the manager of the video place we rented from was cool enough to give me a free rental because this one sucked so bad.
