well, the European Eel is critically endangered having suffered a 99% drop in population in the last few decades....

Yup, no one eats eels anymore, not the European Eel.

But, it is so amazingly fascinating. Such a strange animal, travelling mindbogglingly distances.. it is hard to truly comprehend the life of an Eel.

one of the oddest creatures on the planet

i was once helping count them... we were checking the trap and one was hiding (we were counting new arrivals, so teeny ones) and i was trying to grab it, but it was tricky and i got to say... "it's slippery... like an... well... like an eel". Well worth wading into horrible, cold water for just to say that.

Glass eels?

They are so weird, and that they are born in the Sargasso Sea, then migrating for 1-2 years to our part of the world, where they will spend their life in fresh water, just to travel back into the ocean, breed.. and die!

Oh, and yes! Slippery.. 😆

Back when I was a child, I used to go eel fishing with my grandparents (at nighttime) And then my uncle caught a bat (and set it free, he just wanted to show it to me) And I was lost - I loved all of those animals dearly. 🙈
