I'm a lifelong musician. I love music, it's something that helps define me.
One of my favourite things is to share music with other people.

I will post a piece of music which I like and/or find interesting here most days until I get too distracted or it turns out people are sick of it šŸ˜

You wanna play along, lurk, post your own music, or just talk about the songs, you're most welcome. I would ask that each person limit themselves to 1 song pr day at most. We don't want to turn it into the same 2 people (one of whom would be me) spamming back and forth.

To kick off: Have some brass!

Meute is a really cool Brass Band (brass instruments, saxophones, and percussion) from Germany, who arrange and play well known techno music in their style. You probably know this song already.
They have a lot of songs I like. Come Toegether is my favorite, I think.

Keeping with the early theme.

Brass Against covering Danzig's Mother

The vocalist is a powerhouse especially with those screams at the end.

The original came out in 1988. I was 20 and peak crazy, a ticking time bomb of unhinged anger.

The line
But if you wanna find hell with me
I can show you what it's like
'Til you're bleeding

Was my mantra at the time.

Not a good time, I'd ultimately get in serious trouble, but every once in a while I still here the song in my mind when I'm not in a good place. Which these days is fairly often.

Another brassy entry. Morphine called their style of music 'low rock'; they were a three piece group with drums, baritone sax and a two-string slide bass. Occasionally the instruments were varied a bit to add piano, different saxophone sounds or other weird guitar variants like the two-guitar-string-one-bass-string tritar. Vocals are mostly crooned, and the whole thing has a depressive, murky, laid-back feel. Love it.

Unfortunately, bassist/singer Mark Sandman passed away in 1999 after suffering a heart attack on stage. Edit: more detail now that I'm not on my phone. Morphine were performing at the Nel Nome del Rock Festival in Palestrina, just south of Rome. It was 99 degrees (37 C) in the venue. Ten years later, the remaining members plus a new singer/bassist performed at the festival as "the Ever-Expanding Elastic Waste Band" before changing their name to Vapors of Morphine, after a quip at the expense of new singer Jeremy Lyons. They continue to tour today.

I'm a fan of all kinds of music, and was very fortunate to have been in the audience and saw this live. One of the greatest vocal performances in history, in my opinion.

Well this seems to be off to a great start 😁
Thanks to everyone participating so far. Great contributions, I'm glad to see both things inspired by other songs and also just varied tastes.

Today: Lawrence
They're a US band led by sibling duo, Gracie and Clyde Lawrence. This is the acoustic version of their song Don't Lose Sight, which at least on YT is significantly more popular than the regular one. It features a slew of backing singers, including the youngest Lawrence sibling, Linus.

Fun fact: Because their father is a filmmaker and Clyde was always talented, he became the youngest member of the Songwriters Guild of America at 5 years old, after contributing to the movie Miss Congeniality.

Since we're going with covers, here's a cover of "Boys of Summer" by The Ataris. I love the punk energy they bring (punk is my first love) while keeping the original vibe. This song takes me places, makes me think fondly of the past, and look forward to the future.

Okay, if it's covers today, here's one that covers some of my faves. Rickie Lee Jones has ben one of my favorites since her debut album. She can be very melancholy, but that;s often what I need in my music. This is a cover of a Beatle's song.

Yo this kicks ass! That drummer is so good!! Definitely gonna look up more of her.
I love the juxtaposition too of nonplussed servers walking through behind them.

I don't think I know the original, but this version takes me places too. I love it.

I have to respond to this. Boys of Summer was a mid 80's hit by Don Henley (solo act out of the Eagles, who I hope you have heard of). It made top 5 in several charts (number one in pop) and won the grammy for best rock male solo song in 1986. Rolling Stone currently has it as the #209 song on their all time best rock songs list.

85 and 86 were in many ways the best years of my life and since this was a hit song from an artist I listened to a lot, I have strong associations with the song.

Going in a slightly different direction. It's an old song, but the visuals in the video are amazing.
This is amazing and terrifying. It reminds me a bit (visuals, not the song) of the anime series Last Exile.

I have heard of many things, and sometimes I'm not the best with names, but...
I know The Eagles. But well, I'm European and I was born in '91.

At least on this side of the pond, it still gets a lot of air play.

I have to admit I didn't actually watch the video beyond confirming it was the one I wanted.
