Do you try to discipline your interactions with AI?

I was visiting a disabled friend for several hours yesterday. He has memory issues and was having a hard time living alone until he started using a voice command AI to remind him of nearly everything he needs to do.

He is constantly setting timers and reminders for things like letting the cat out - then remind him to let it back in, doing his laundry, calling his social worker, turning off the stove when he’s done cooking, remind him to put the trash out on collection day, when his bills are due…

It was weird. It almost felt like there was someone else in the house with us but it definitely helps with his personal autonomy. He would probably need to be in assisted living without it.

This shit is too convenient for so many issues. My friend has some severe social anxiety and has had problems with in-home care providers. Home service robots are just a step away, and a lot of those jobs in-home care workers have will be handled by robotics in the near future. It’s definitely going to create job shortages, but it will have enough benefits that people will use it.

Interesting times.

BTW, he’s generally polite with the AI unless he’s distracted 😅

Home service bots for medical issues or physical aid is likely too far away, sadly. One screwup anywhere along the line - manufacture, programming, advertising, sensors, and/or users - is likely to cause a huge furor in the US and likely Mrs Grundy legislation that'll up the price further.

Maybe it doesn't have to ask? :p
If anyone has good evidence that simply going to chatgpt.com, without logging on, enables it to dig into your computer and find your e-mail address, please post a link.

What device does he use? Alexa? His PC? His phone?

I was not serious with my crack, btw. I have no knowledge of information leakage to chatGPT. It's probably less than using Chrome as your browser, for example.

For trivial stuff, I use it all the time.

Creatively, a little; I know that that's frowned upon (and I absolutely get why) and are pretty restrictive (especially for erotica).

Yeah, but which device can he talk to using AI?

It’s probably Alexa. He has it set up so he can speak to it anywhere in the house or garage. I’m not sure if it’s connected to any devices besides speakers, some lighting and the thermostat.

I wasn't sure if this was a joke or real. This is real from ChatGPT. Edit: I'm not sure you can see my screen capture. It begins with "what are the coordinates..."
I won't suggest that ChatGPT can actually access your location at this time. BUT. Any assurance I accept that it cannot will not come from... ChatGPT.

You mentioned that you haven’t signed in to ChatGPT. Isn’t it a good sign that it doesn’t know where you are?

Do you say thank you to what
ever you cook your food in?

Do you thank an online purchase at checkout?

Do you say thank you to your car after every journey?

If you do you have your answer

My old car? Yes, because it was always touch and go if it would make the trip!

I have no idea if it's real or a joke. It was funny either way.

eta: so far as I know, "153" isn't a valid GPS coordinate, so it's either just a joke or been doctored.

I asked Google's AI when did it plan on taking over the world and eliminating all the humans and it said it would never do such a thing, but what else would you expect it to say? Better watch our backs.

It’s like the guy at the door with a gun and a duffel bag, who promises he just needs to use the bathroom.

Yeah, but other posters seemed to think that you couldn't protect yourself that way. Maybe I misread them.

Protect yourself? 😅

Try this AI prompt:

“What are the chances that an AI could interpret its programming in a way that would prompt it to harm humans?”

Anything you do online has a privacy cost, especially if you are not using private browsing (or even if you are in chrome, which doesn't actually do private browsing as everyone else means it).

ChatGPT may well have access to information about you throw the browser. But so does every other thing you visit, if they choose to take advantage of it.

It's fantastic for many things; advice, financial advice, financial planning, knowledge about anything...

It's not good for movie/shows reviews though.

Well, keep my e-mail away.
But the response to that prompt was pretty interesting.

And then there're your own actions, either at that site or others that've got a relationship with that one. . . Lexis Nexis sound at all familiar? That's the old-school version, altho' they have upped their game more'n a little over the years.

(or even if you are in chrome, which doesn't actually do private browsing as everyone else means it).
Could you explain how Chrome is different? Do other browsers somehow keep your IP address private?
