Redistricting Wars

I also support Texas doing the same - because LEGAL.

I don't support California doing it because the intent is to do something ILLEGAL in response to other States doing lawful things.
My, you are slow on the uptake! Slower than a weary snail making his way home from the saddest funeral . . .

Actually I think at this point the redistricting wars have really ceased to matter. And this, folks, is how Trump has pretty much guaranteed the GOP will lose the mid-terms, and probably sabotaged Vance for 2028 at one and the same time. Between him and Noem trying to play to Liberals, they've screed the couch

This is the #1 issue in this country. 93 Million White Collar Workers in this country, who are living in fear every day that we will be laid off for a cheaper H-1B, OPT, or Offshoring worker.

This is how you lose your base in a single interview. Vivek did this last December. When you start saying there aren't people in the US that can do these jobs, while importing foreign workers that have no experience in those jobs, you are admitting you have no clue what you are talking about. And let's be clear: we don't import workers for middle factories; we mostly import workers in IT. While we have ~100k Computer Science and Computer Engineering majors (not to mention other IT disciplines) that are either underemployed or unemployed between the ages of 22-27 (i.e. entry level) we are importing 700k+ to fill roles they could be in.

If you want to see another Mamdani win at the national level, keep saying "We need to import talent" and do nothing about canceling and deporting H1-B's while we have people struggling to find jobs..

Trump has fucked it up big time over this. We did not elect him to spout this bullshit and do nithing concrete.

My impression is that your country (at least until President Bone Spur started his reign of error) imported all kinds, from brilliant scientists and entrepreneurs, to skilled refugees, to poor, unskilled but hard-working people willing to pick crops in the hot sun and clean houses for low pay.

It's what turned your land from a pretty much blank slate four centuries ago to something truly majestic.

Wedid, and then we got fifty million third world illegal aliens who are economic migrants from shitholes

When the Democrats retake controlof the House and the Senate in 2026 thanks to Trump, odds are he will be impeached again....and at that point I can't see the GOP moving heaven and earth to defend him

LOL! As if the Irish, Chinese, Polish, German, Jewish, etc. etc. etc. immigrants of past centuries weren't "economic migrants" from "shithole countries"!

Immigrants built your country. If you go crawling up your own collective arse and try to pretend there isn't anything in the world but you, you'll just end up with a declining population and fading prosperity.

My point was, gerrmandering is really ceasing to be relevant - Trump has screwed the pooch and Democrats are going to clean house in the mid-terms regardless

Maybe. It depend on what happens over the next 10 months and who the D's run as candidates.

The dems have been gerrymandering districts for years, and finally, the Republicans are fighting fire with fire. This is far from over.

Totally Fact-Free Latecomer spreads nonsense. 👍

Fact Check: Republicans are benefiting the most from gerrymandering.

Both parties engaged in gerrymandering after the 2020 census, but, overall, the bias in this cycle’s maps strongly favors Republicans due primarily to aggressive gerrymandering in GOP strongholds in the South and Midwest. In total, the Brennan Center estimates that this gerrymandering will give Republicans an advantage of around 16 House seats in the 2024 race to control Congress compared to fair maps.

The Democrats tried to pass a national ban on gerrymandering but it failed to pass by just a few votes. Republicans opposed it.

It is no surprise that the effects of gerrymandering tilt in favor of the GOP. This decade, as last, Republicans disproportionately controlled the redistricting process, drawing 191 (or 44 percent) of the districts that will be used in this year’s elections. By contrast, Democrats fully controlled the drawing of only 75 districts. The rest were drawn by commissions, courts, or divided governments.

State courts also played a role in creating Republican advantages, because courts in states where Republicans drew maps (many of them with judges elected in partisan elections) have been much less inclined to police partisan gerrymandering than their counterparts in Democratic states.

And if Vance can beat sme sense into Trump's skull. This whole H1-B thing is an own goal.

H1-B visas are a nothing burger. You seem to think so but they really aren't because they deal with legit immigrants who have jobs instead of having babies and getting social services support.

Basically, it's a narrative that has no legs.

OTOH, there's a lot of time between now and next November and that's nearly an eternity in the news cycle. Who knows what could happen to derail (or enhance) either party's chances.

I'm thinking that the suit against California's Prop 50 redistricting is going to be interesting come next summer and a lot of people are going to be watching and talking about it. If the plaintiff's, and now the DOJ, are right, Newsom's going to look like a power grabbing fool right before the election. Worse, the midwest States that legally redraw their maps are going to gain more seats than California was going to get with Prop 50, and if California can't get those 5 extra Prop 50 seats for the Democrats the election outcome will be even worse for the D's overall.

And of course you're free to vote for whomever you please. My question to you is; who is that going to be? Another socialist running as a Democrat and lying outright to the people?

Or maybe another authoritarian oligarch running as a Republican and lying outright to the people? 😆

Think before you rant.

MAJOR BREAKING: Federal court kills gerrymandered Texas congressional map and slams Republicans for racial gerrymandering — sounding the death knell for Trump’s dream of stealing the 2026 midterm elections.

In a massive blow to Donald Trump’s national redistricting scheme, a panel of federal judges just blocked Texas Republicans from using their brand-new, GOP-favored congressional map — ruling that it was not just political dirty trickery, but an outright racial gerrymander.

Yes, you read that right: A federal court — including a judge appointed by Trump himself — just ruled that the Texas GOP drew its new districts in a way that was so blatantly discriminatory it couldn’t even survive until 2026.

The panel’s 2–1 ruling forces Texas to throw out the map Republicans rammed through earlier this year, a map engineered to give them up to FIVE new House seats in 2026. Five seats that could have helped save a deeply unpopular president from massive losses in a midterm cycle already shaping up to be a political hurricane for the GOP.

Judge Jeffrey Brown, a Trump appointee, delivered the gut punch. He wrote that while politics obviously played a role, what Republicans did went far beyond normal partisan games, saying that “substantial evidence shows that Texas racially gerrymandered the 2025 Map.”

Let’s pause for a moment. A Trump-appointed federal judge just accused Texas Republicans of racial gerrymandering. Not “maybe,” not “sort of,” not “technically questionable.” He said the evidence is substantial.

This wasn’t about politics. It was about power — and the willingness of the Texas GOP, backed by Trump and the White House, to shred communities of color to manufacture extra seats in Congress.

And it gets even better.

The ruling forces Texas to revert to its previous congressional lines, instantly blowing up Republican dreams of an easy House majority boost. Even worse for them, it comes after they launched a national redistricting blitz that triggered a counteroffensive from California Democrats. With the California redistricting approved by the state’s voters, Trump’s whole strategy is looking like a collapsing house of cards.

Of course, Gov. Greg Abbott and state Republicans are already scrambling for the next move, preparing to beg the Supreme Court to intervene. But the damage is done: their plot has been exposed in federal court, and the ruling stands as a brutal, documented indictment of their tactics.

The bottom line is the Texas GOP didn’t just try to tilt the playing field — they tried to burn the rule book and redraw it along racial lines. And even Trump’s own judges said “Absolutely not.”

This isn’t just a legal setback for Republicans. It’s a national embarrassment. It’s a massive victory for voting rights. And it’s yet another reminder that when Trump and his allies try to rig democracy, the courts — sometimes even their own courts — are still capable of saying “No. Not this time.”

My problem with Prop 50 is that it unlawfully eliminates the independent committee that draws the congressional district map.
The legislature voted to change the process of using independent commitees that draw the congressional district maps based. They were given the right to do this by recent Supreme Court rulings.

Great for Utah, they used the democratic process to do what is right for them. I fully support that.

I also support Texas doing the same - because LEGAL.

I don't support California doing it because the intent is to do something ILLEGAL in response to other States doing lawful things. Had California followed the law, I'd fully support their efforts to redraw the congressional districts.

They didn't. But you're good with it because somehow you believe that it hurts Trump.

Which is about as fucking idiotic as it gets.
I support the law and California's prop 50 is ILLEGAL. How you go from there to "you support gerrymandering" is beyond logical. Unless you start from that proposition and work backward while discarding everything in the universe so you can claim nothing refutes your conclusion. Which, come to think about it, is what you always do anyway.
The Texas process was declared UNCONSTITUTIONAL and therefore ILLEGAL today in the full Federal Court of Appeals in Texas by a 2-1 margin.

Trump’s Scheme to Give the GOP Extra House Seats In Texas Just Blew Up in His Face

A Trump appointee penned the majority decision.

Texas crafted an airtight partisan gerrymandering bill as permitted by the US Supreme Court

Then Trump's Department of "Justice" got involved. A spectacular Derpy-esque misinterpretation of the law ensued.

The Supreme Court recently ruled in Petteway v. Galveston County, that states were under NO obligation to create Congressional districts based on race.

Trump's DOJ attorneys twisted this to mean that ANY Congressional district where white people are NOT in the majority were ipso facto "racist" and must be broken apart.

They shamelessly inserted paragraph after paragraph into Texas state legislation that basically prohibiting the election of black candidates.

This was the legislation that Texas Democrats fled their state to draw attention to it.

So the law was eventually passed and immediately challenged in court today.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand.....the Trump federal judge says such blatant racism is a clear violation of something called the "Tenth Amendment"....a part of the United States Constitution.

The best part of this ruling is that the Supreme Court CANNOT invalidate another section of the 1965 Voting Rights Act from the bench because smart Democratic lawyers based their case entirely on the Tenth Amendment....and the Supremes cannot rewrite the Constitution (although Scalia seems to think he can!)

So in summary, Fuck You Derpy. American won, You lost,....again.

It's Texas and I'm in California. I'm neither affect by, nor care what Texas does as long as it's LEGAL. Which what they did seems to be.
The law that Texas state legislature passed did was ruled unconstitutional in a Federal courtroom today by the entire court of appeals.
It's now "unconstitutional" which by definitions is not LEGAL.
Do you care yet as to what Texas does?
Of course you don't.

Even state attorney general Ken Paxson, arguably one of the few people in the legal profession with fewer morals and scruples than you, said the eventual legislation that was sent to the governor to sign was "deeply flawed" (he actually said "completely fucked up by the DOJ" but newspapers often soften his words.

If you want to see how completely ignorant of the law that Barrister Derpy is, here is a relevant screen shot
California amended their constitution in 2009 and 2010 that gave an independent nonpartisan commission should determine political congressional districts.
This is the part that Barrister Derpy keeps talking about.
What he chooses to overlook and/or understand, is that the California legislature MAY, at its discretion, override the independent commision, BUT the legislature changes MUST be approved via a ballot initiative.

Governor Newsom followed the law (which Barrister Derpy disingenuously claims he did not) and put a ballot initiative on the 2025 ballot to override the independent commision.
The ballot initiative was voted on statewide by the voters in California and passed by a majority vote.

You can't get any more Democratic than that!

Yet Barrister Derpy, purportedly a "member in good standing of the state Bar in California, deliberately and recklessly misinterprets California law as somehow "illegal" when in fact the exact opposite is true: California followed the letter of the law every single step of the way.

All this goes to show is that there is a reason that Barrister Derpy has not seen the inside of a courtroom in over a decade.

Well, of course they deemed it unconstitutional. What other choice did they have to protect the status quo?

Anyone who didn't see this coming is as dumb as you are. BTW, America is the team I'm rooting for so... WINNER! As opposed to you who seems to be stuck in luzer mode.

I suggest you go back to counting dead celebrities on the GB. You were much gooder at that than politics.
