I'm pretty smart ya know? But also pretty dumb.

It's a case of desperately needing to have the "just right" $20 word* that tells the whole story, thank you, I'm done, let's go get coffee, when a buck-fifty, 7th-grade-readable "duh" word gets the job done in fine style.

* - I thought we declared that $20 words are now actually $50 due to inflation.

In the middle of writing a story, I got stuck mid-sentence because I couldn't figure out how to write impropriety as an adjective.
Impropietous? Impropitious? Unpropitious?

Then I looked it up. Oh. Its improper.

...I knew that.

Please help my fragile ego and tell me I'm not the only one who gets stuck like this.
You know, at first I read this and said "oh, duh" myself. Then later on i reconsidered. Sure, I'll grant that 'improper' is grammatically correct but is it correct for usage?

When i think of using the word 'improper' vs 'impropriety', they don't fall into the same category. If i was looking for a word to describe someone's impropriety, I don't think improper would be it. But I'm not sure exactly what it would be. But calling someone's impropriety as an "improper scumbag" doesn't sound right at all.

Sorry to not help.

A lot of things become impossible once you start to think about them. Sometimes when I'm saying a word aloud, I realise it's just some random sounds and other people are supposed to understand what I mean. Or I might be walking along, and for some reason I become conscious of the act of walking, and it's impossible to walk naturally. Like I have to tell my legs how to move.

Yep, in the end I deleted that sentence.
Nothing can come from something as it turns out.

Sidebar reflection.

This is why I so love AH - the ability to engage in delightful banter at the drop of a hat.

Speaking of fedoras, I note with glee the revealed identity of the mysterious but superbly dressed French ‘detective’ outside the Louvre! How delightful - a 15 year old kid with a love of detective stories. Simply delicious!
