Sure:

Sauté onions (how much is up to you) in your soup pan (or sauté in frying pan and add to soup).

Add vegetable soup stock ( I buy mine but you can make it).

Begin heating to boil.

Cut at 3 carrots or more into bite size bits and add to stock at any time.

Cut great beans into bite size pieces. Also you could use other green vegetables such as kale.

At boiling add 1/3 to 1/2 cup barley and 1 can of kidney or black beans. Also any seasoning to your taste. I like to add a bay leaf.

Bring back to boil. Then turn down to simmer for 15 minutes.

Cover and turn off heat.

Let set for an hour. Cool in refrigerator overnight so all flavors mingle.

Note add any veggies you like.

Yes dogs keeping me busy. Working them three days a week on the hill now. Four working and a pup to train so plenty to keep me busy.

Bad News: SIL dx with colon cancer
Good News: Surgery went well & she's on her way home today. Pending labs, they think surgery should have gotten it all as dx early.

Bad News: Woman attacked & raped a few hundred yards from my doorstep
Good News: She fought like hell, got DNA, gave a detailed description... and they caught the perp!!

Good News - I have a new veggie soup recipe that I can try since it's not a tomato-based broth. Woot!

Blink is a good book, too... I thought it had more to do with split-second decisions, but thinking about it those are based on gut instincts.
I do also recommend the de Becker book. Very interesting read and can be helpful IMO.
