In a pinch, normal craft superglue (cyanoacrylate) works very well. There's also a reason I keep my knives very sharp - clean cuts area easier to fix than ragged gashes.

Also, and I don't know how this works, but I am the most squeamish person on earth. Give me the anticipation of seeing blood and I will pass out - 100% guaranteed. Put me in a situation where someone is bleeding and I can somehow just pack it all away, deal with the crisis, and then melt down and cry-puke in private later

That's how I got my hands on surgical glue.

I told a friend who's friends with a nurse that I keep super glue in my first aid kit and she gave him a box of mini dermabond things for me. Just snap and apply, kinda cool.

I've also used veterinary glue.

I'm not at all squeamish around blood, which is great 'cause I'm often the one who renders nursing care in my family. When my sister had her appendix out, I had to help pack the surgical site while she healed from a horrid infection. I've put in and taken out GI and NG tubes for my niece, I've done general dressing care and I've glued myself back together more times than I can remember.

Guess what? Oil and burns = bad combination.

cool running water immediately for 10-20 minutes will prevent such injuries from fully developing. I was touching the pan for a good few seconds and didn't even end up with a red mark on my fingertips.

I have two worst burns. One was in my home ec class in... I think 8th grade? Was pulling muffins out and touched my arm against the top of the oven but didn't feel it. Then I hid the burn for like two weeks while it healed because I didn't want to get in trouble/yelled at for getting hurt. It went deep. I still have a scar from that one.

The other was a hair straightener while naked. Did you know that at 500 degrees skin burns white? I didn't! Still have a scar from that one, too.

Also, there's nothing quite like the particular note of the scream someone gives when they've just cut their finger off.

Reading your posts, I just had an epiphany about my WIP. One of the supporting characters is a woman with a serious military background, a serious attitude and serious wise-assing skills. It was not how I originally envisioned the character, but it's how she came out. She's very likable. I just realized part of where I got her attitude from. But she is hetero, so not everything came over for her.
