Egypt bars refugees from fleeing Gaza across its border. Israel has already warned the residents of Gaza City to evacuate to safe zones to the south.

Israeli soldiers are being killed because The IDF is fighting house-to-house against Hamas instead just indiscriminately bombing everything.

Um, Israel has zero problem with "non-combatants" evacuating temporarily, but Egypt, etc, have other ideas about that…

From an AP report:

CAIRO (AP) — As desperate Palestinians in sealed-off Gaza try to find refuge under Israel’s relentless bombardment in retaliation for Hamas’ brutal Oct. 7 attack, some ask why neighboring Egypt and Jordan don’t take them in.

The two countries, which flank Israel on opposite sides and share borders with Gaza and the occupied West Bank, respectively, have replied with a staunch refusal. Jordan already has a large Palestinian population.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi made his toughest remarks yet on Wednesday, saying the current war was not just aimed at fighting Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip, “but also an attempt to push the civilian inhabitants to ... migrate to Egypt.” He warned this could wreck peace in the region.

Jordan’s King Abdullah II gave a similar message a day earlier, saying, “No refugees in Jordan, no refugees in Egypt.”

😳

Now, granted, the “temporarily” part of the evacuation is where things really get sticky…

Not to worry, though - I hear DonOld just ended the (another?) war, so…Problem solved!!! (Mission Accomplished???)

😑

We. Told. Them. So.

You can’t possibly blame Egypt or Jordan for denying entry.

They rightly fear they’ll be left with the people when and if Isreal fucks them over. As well as the potential problems that letting them in can cause within those countries.

If Israel wants a given sector of Gaza evacuated from one time to another to facilitate military operations then they should accommodate them on Israeli territory until the operation is done.

It’s a pain in the arse, and slows progress, but that’s what ought to happen - not bombing them anyway, nor pointing the finger at neighbours who are wise to the scam.

Settlers have already taken the piss theiving land intended in good faith for others, and you expect Arabs not to suspect Nethanyahu and Trump of leaving them holding someone else’s baby?

Yeah, I’m not blaming them, just posting facts and reality.

And I specifically mentioned the “temporarily” catch-22 facing countries who accept refugees from Gaza.

The suggestion that Israel is somehow prohibiting evacuation of refugees from Gaza was / is NOT legitimate.

😑

Then why not evacuate them elsewhere in Israel? Since it’s Israel insisting they move ?

Israel could temporarily accept refugees. If the US, Israel, and Europe were inclined, neighboring countries could be pressured into accepting temporary refugees through the United Nations.

The Gazans spent the last 20 years stockpiling weapons and building bunkers so they could massacre Jews. Housing them as refugees within Israel would only lead to more attacks like October 7th.

Gaza was part of Egypt until 1968. The natural place to resettle the Gazans would be there.

I guess that ^ was directed at me.

Okay:

I laughed because it was funny - nay - it was hilarious / farcical in the current geopolitical global

It’s not geopolitics that’s the issue. It’s entirely local.

If you want people to move out the way whilst your team salts their earth a bit more then take the responsibility of seeing that they’re moved. Too bad it’s inconvenient.

You expecting Canada to accept the displaced when Trump evacuates Portland ?

I see. You were just being an asshole

Not. At. All.

If I was “just being an asshole”, I would have expanded on that emoji with a healthy dose of (well deserved) beratement.

I actually took your post as low level trolling, and my response was an indication / reflection of how much serious attention & effort I felt your comment warranted.

In other words: I suspected YOU were “just being an asshole”…

My bad…

The Gazan leadership did the weapons stockpiling. The people just tried to get on with life.

The Israeli government spent the same 20 years stockpiling American weapons with Americans money. The people just tried to get on with life.

Put them in secure camps while you complete your military operation in whatever zone you want to access, then let them back when you’re done.

And I suspect if the Arab / Muslim world (etc) really wanted it to happen, they could make things financially lucrative for Egypt.

Geopolitically and logistically, the "temporary" move to Egypt makes the most sense.

Of course, the Arab / Muslim (etc) world is quite content to have a perpetual threat on Israel’s western flank (and every other flank), so…

😑

Again, I don't take sides. I want peace for everyone. I've always supported the 2 state solution, but no one seems to be interested

I was of the same mind until 10/7 and the subsequent actions / behavior of the pro-"Palestine" crowd (including actual attacks by Iran, Hezbollah, the Houthis, etc) starting on 10/8 (if not 10/7 itself) and moving forward - and then the actions / behaviors of Israel involving attacks on Gaza, Hezbollah, Iran, and the Houthis, (etc).

Now a two state solution seems almost fanciful.

A "State of Palestine" would be entitled to a standing military with access to whatever weapons its benefactors deemed "necessary" for its "defense", and I just do NOT see Israel EVER allowing that to happen after 10/7 (not that they ever would have allowed it before 10/7).

I would add: Knowing the history of the region and the parties involved, does anyone really believe the "Palestians" (etc) would just forgive and forget once they achieved statehood???

🤔

Nah. It is what it is.

The Palestinians on the West Bank should be moved to Jordan.

Well then give them a one state solution, with equal rights.

You offer them a deal where they can’t have equal rights in your state, and can’t have a state of their own and then act surprised when they consider it no sort of deal at all?

What ARE you offering them exactly ?

The Palestinians should get a Palestinian state in the middle of the Arabian Desert or the Sahara Desert. Let's see if they can make the desert bloom like the Israelis did.
