He's a national treasure (RIP). A very talented guy. Just watched his old TV programme on BBC4.
He's kind of like Guy Martin, but drives a Landrover and not motorbikes

Yeah, did documentaries on old engineering, architecture etc. was he the guy that used to climb the old industrial chimneys? Demolition expert?

He was a TV friendly version of Derek Bates. Just two of the northern lads who had been taught how to blow German industry up during the war and turned their skills to blowing British industry up in the 1950s, '60s and '70s.

Derek preferred to stay on the ground but Fred would shin up a chimney like a monkey.
