I have written two stories and submitted them and they are in the pending folder and have been there for quite a few days.

One of the stories was an edit of one I had submitted originally. That one they kicked back to me fairly fast and said what corrections I needed to make, which I did. I then resubmitted.

After that I submitted a completely new story and both show up in pending and again, have been in pending folder for at least 3-4 days.

Any help out there?

As a new writer, you can expect to wait up to a week or so. Your stories will be vetted more closely for content compliance. Whatever you do, don't resubmit them. You'll go to the back of the queue and your clock will start from the beginning, again.

I’d recommend not treating Literotica like a normal busieness, with normal service levels. For a start it’s wholly free and you get what you paid for. Second, it’s a mom and pop outfit, expect commensurate lead times, or sometimes tumbleweed.

Edits to already published stories fall into the least priority category. Expect that to take at least a few weeks.

As for the new story, 4-5 days isn't that bad.

Patience.

Yeah, a few people posting about long wait times. 3-4 is  supposed to be normal. Im going on 14 days for a 15k word story and 13 days for a 5k story in LW.

Day 19 for me. I have 5 stories currently log jammed in pending. Yes, I know how this works because I've published several. I know if I message then, it just takes more time to respond so I wait. But I messaged anyway with no response. Twice.

Longer stories generally take longer to approve. They try to get the shorter ones through first to help clear the backlog.

So here is my theory, and it’s only a theory because I have to incite what happens once a story is submitted. I believe that 100% of the stories submitted go into a program that flags stories for artificial intelligence, inappropriate content, and plagiarism. I also think that if those stories pass, then they get posted without anyone actually reading them. Those stories get posted in under 5 days, depending on backlog. If a story fails to pass that initial review, then the story goes into the pending queue. That is where it can take days or perhaps weeks to be reviewed by a moderator. Thoughts?

To that I would add story length. I had a story rejected the next day because it was 747 words. 3 words short of the 750 word requirement. I ended up resubmitting; it is currently pending

Well, it's pending either way, even during those first days. If it doesn't get published or sent back, then it just stays pending.

That is true. But if all stories were only pending for those "few" days, there would not be so many threads asking, "Why has my story been pending for over two weeks?"

Two weeks is extreme. Like the above comments, new writers are screened more carefully, certain content gets flagged, punctuation and grammar can require review, a busy time for the moderators for contests running sweeps. A backlog in a certain popular category. Suspected AI. Too many to know, and other than polite messaging, not many options.

26 days for mine, today, and I'm not new to publishing stories here, though I never before had to wait more than 2 days or so. messaged Laurel about 4 days ago, but I'm told she reads them but never responds. Not planning to do anything more than keep waiting.

So poor writing would equal longer waiting times?
Stories do get rejected for poor grammar and punctuation, especially dialogue. Although, anecdotally, the site does cut new authors some slack, unless their content is diabolically bad.

New authors get longer screening times more for content compliance, I think, and if there's any suggestions that an author has used AI, they can expect a rejection eventually.

I definitely got a pass on my very first story, then my second story got bounced for dialogue formatting issues. (Once I realized the actual rules, I went back and put in an edit to the first story, which also fixed a major flaw with the wrong name at a key point.)

My suspicion is that the very long waits come from something Laurel thinks is a borderline accept/reject for some reason. From my own experience with grading student work, there are pieces that I put aside because I am not sure how to react to it. In some cases, it might not have been a really tough call, but she set it aside and forgot about it -- I have done that with student assignments, too. And I don't grade the volume of things she reviews. Those are the cases when a gentle nudge to her releases it.

Again, this is speculation on my part, but I think it fits the pattern pretty well.

It’s been 23 days since I submitted my latest story, and 10 days for a poem, which feels really long since poems are usually published much faster. I’ve never had this issue before. I did send a message to Laurel, but she’s not a machine, so for now I’m just waiting patiently...

I’m on a four day wait, which is long for me. Then that could well be as I submitted my Halloween story very early. I’d been in dialog with Laurel about some aspects. While I think she agreed that I was fine, I wanted to allow time for it to be rejected and fixed before the comp.

What used to happen with early comp submissions was they got pre-approved with a publish date of day one of the comp. But that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. My most recent comp submissions only got a publish date two days before day one.

[Fucking autocorrect - publish not punish!]

My latest (on Sunday) took a little over 72 hours in pending and was published on the 4th day. That was a little longer than normal for me, too, though I chalked it up as being in a very busy category (about 20 stories that day). Sometimes there's a big backlog.
