The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

Did you catch anything? 🎣
Something came up (SWMBO) and it was kind of too windy anyhow…kid ended up going to a local pond and caught a HUGE bass! All the while keeping a sharp eye out for a 5’ gator who patrols that pond😮. I’ll post some pics if he’ll send them to me. Today it’s even more windy…oh well.

Reunions. I’ve actually been to two over the years. A 20 and a 25. Not because I really wanted to go, but a buddy whom I’ve know since I was 5 (neighbor) was on the welcoming committee and he sort of strong armed me. Not that I’m that weak to be strong armed, but he married into a family of gals who’s daddy has 2000 acres of hunting land up in the county that harvests more white tails than any other in the state! 😉. Didn’t want to ruffle any feathers on that front…IYK.

Apples. I like the Fuji. Not because they’re any better than any other variety (they’re good though!) but because my apple cobbler I make in my #12 cast iron Dutch oven calls for them in that recipe! So when I get apples, I just always get the Fuji’s.

Here’s some trivial pursuit BS knowledge. Turn-O-da-Centtury there were over 100 varieties of apples. By the 70’s there were down to less than 10!😮. I know there has been a push to preserve and cultivate the heirloom seeds and varieties and from the discussion upstream, it sounds like a lot have made a comeback. Arkansas Black? 🧐. Never heard of such!

This happens kinda regularly.
Do it. Welcome to the 5+ book going club! One hasn’t been touched in 6 months or more, but it’s the third book in a trilogy biography of Sir Winston…it can get dry so it gets to collect dust till I’m in the mood.

I've done five. I think I did 6 once. I have set books down for many months and then picked them up, skipped back a couple of pages, and it's like I set it down last night. The butt-in-ski book I picked up yesterday is very short, so I may knock it all the way out because.

The Arkansas Black... a late harvest 🍎 apple that NEEDS to age.
You could play baseball with the fukkers when you pick them.
Their real beauty is that they will age and cook nicely, carrying you through until next season's early harvest apples come off...
The author that I mentioned above, Eric Sloane writes what appears to be a "labor of love."
One of the best writers I've seen, when it comes to old "Americana."
Many people don't realize how important apples were, for the survival of the early settlers.

Oh! That looks like it’s right up my alley. When I was in school I’d check out those FireFox books from the library. There was a whole series of them. Old Appalachian lore of everything from cooking to weaving corn silk seats for rocking chairs.

Thanks for the heads up. Sloane looks like he has a whole series to pick and choose from.

Sunday, Sunday, Sunday
ok - enough personal reminders
Yesterday was so busy that today feels more like Saturday but it's back to the grind tomorrow. 😩

What's everyone else up to today?
I wish I could be there to observe the carnage! 🤭🤭
Any change it's livestreamed or recorded? Asking for a friend 😉
Oooh! New computer! Equal parts exciting and irritating. You'll get there, Likes. 🥰
So true! Lots of new but still some of the same-old, same-old. 🖥️ Still, much easier for me on the desktop than the phone for Lit.
Sneaking in and waving
🤗 Hiya, Kathy!!
Isn't that the way it is? You fix one thing then something else rears its ugly head! 😤😤
Ugh - too true.
That's the best revenge!
"Who are you, again?" 🤣🤣
Right? And they were tipsy? Low hanging fruit. Let the mind games commence.
I'm ok.. go read it novel.. have a good weekend
You, too. I'm in the middle of one, too. 🤗

I'm juggling just two right now. Different platforms. One has a due date, the other not. Both equally interesting to me.
Fuck sleep let's go get em
That's one way to crash a party.
First, do no harm.
💖
And that my friend is what it's all about
❤️‍🔥
Holy hell - the HS reunion was decent.

There’s a reason I know people and stay in touch with them. I don’t believe in phony friends or people who will say “let’s do something” and never do.

But the after party was a metric fuckton of fun. Home at 3am.
Sounds like a fabulous night! Also sounds like a great crop of kids.

Sure the fuck hope those in my grade grew the eff up. IYKYK

Way to go, kiddo!! Doesn't sound very relaxing but then I suppose a 5' gator might keep things interesting for a youngster like him.🐟🐊*

*don't blame me the emojis include a croc but not a gator 🤨

It's a very interesting history. The current patent system is fascinating as well. I had no idea.
Arkansas Black are new to me as well.

I dropped down to the 2-3 book going club once I started working from home. For the best really. Ever try juggling 5 police procedural mysteries at once? Can get very confusing at times.
We still need them down here. Average high will drop to 90 this week.
nope. uh-uh. 74 is plenty warm for mid-September tyvm 🥵
Sounds like a wonderful reference book. As do the Foxfire series recommended by @HumpDayHoratio - although I'm too far north of the Mason-Dixon to have heard of them. I may need to look into an InterLibrary Loan
Many people don't realize how important apples were, for the survival of the early settlers.
Still are - apples remain one of an alarmingly few foods on my Safe Foods list. Even peanut butter is a fair-weather friend.
Random thought...
Doesn't "Spooners" sound so much nicer than "Greasy bastids?"
🤣🤣
I get a personal little chuckle out of it seeing as I use "Spoon Theory" in my daily life. 🤭
Greasers reminds me of S.E. Hinton's The Outsiders

Ok - that's it for a while. I'm down to my last apple... time to put together a grocery list.
