Fake positives in AI detection tools, and the fear of being human.

Bollocks. You're forever going on about how we're kiss-arses for not criticising Lit.

If you jab at us for not criticising the site, you should expect us to jab back for harping on about it.
Once again, you are speaking BS. I called you a kiss-ass, not for not going along with my opinion, but because you threw jabs at me for criticizing Lit. You are generally a polite person here on the forum. Kind even. But you started throwing snark my way when I expressed my doubts and sentiments about certain Lit practices.

Like and enjoy Lit all you want, I've no problem with it. To a much lesser extent, I enjoy Lit too. But respect my right to criticize it without resorting to personal attacks. That's all there is to it.

And I said why, even named one person when they responded to my post. You are just trying to find an angle to jab at me, implying my supposed cowardice.

I said you acted like one. There is some difference there. Again, if you feel that was unfair or an incorrect impression, as you say, I can substantiate it with our PM exchange.
I don't think you come out of that one smelling as good as you think you do, but you seem awfully keen to prove that no one should ever try to have a private conversation with you.

You do you.

Well I am someone whose post you just called fan fiction, so I will ask which of two points I made you consider fawning over Laurel. As StillStunned said, Laurel has done something unique, if you deny that, I have no willingness to engage with you further.

I called what she is doing a labor of love. I have no idea what your background is, but I have founded four companies and been senior management for three others. If you do not truly believe in the work, you won't stay. She almost certainly could make more money doing something and spend less energy doing it. But once you have vested yourself to the degree that starting this had to take, it is very hard to walk away from it. Which is good for all of us, because I give the site very little chance of staying healthy once she moves on. A dedicated founder is often all that stands between a useful site or product and rapid enshitification.

I also said she would have an exceptional understanding of stories from her experience and because of the number of stories a day she reviews. I do not think I could do her job; I doubt that many of us could. That said, I doubt many of the people on this site could do my last few jobs either. Nor could I do StillStunnded's job. And I am not a lawyer so there goes SimonDoom as well.

Which of these two points do you think is unrealistic? Can you explain why without just complaining that the universe hates you and needs to be condemned for it?

Are was there something else specific you can point to. You complain about other people being evasive. Name a specific thing to complain about and then we can talk.

I criticize things here too, and some things do deserve criticism. I never avoid pointing out the “high-school senior class project” level of tech expertise of the story side. But in a way I’m grateful too, the site would be ad-laden if they knew more about web development.

At the same time, I will say that shrugging, acknowledging things just are the way they are, and pointing out to folks that “that’s just the way it is” isn’t necessarily apologizing for the site, it’s just acknowledging the way things are and to a degree, the hopelessness of having higher expectations. High school senior class projects can only go so far.

And @awkwardkyset, let’s be fair: you spin your little little political barbs in a lot of what you say (see “snowflake” above), so people’s reactions to you aren’t solely Lit-apologist based, they kinda want you to go to the politics board when you wanna get political largely because of AHMods itchy thread moving finger. We cross the street in real life to avoid crazy people on the street talking to themselves, and we virtually cross the street here to avoid crazy people talking to themselves in echo chambers. So we don’t want our posts to be involuntarily moved to the politics board. Political board thataway.

You've called me out directly, and in relation to the disagreement we had at the time, implying that I imagined things and formed an unfair impression of you. All of that happened in PMs. What am I supposed to do? I haven't actually posted that exchange, and I never would without your explicit approval. But it's also unfair of you to call me out on it and then play this card.

Jesus Christ, man. Did you confuse me with someone else? Me, political? I've called out people here a hundred times for speaking politics, for crying out loud. I've spoken against this right vs left thing Americans have going on here many times. I am yet to make a single post in the politics board.

Why don't you link just one post of mine where I tried to steer any topic towards politics? Or argued for Trump or against him? What the hell.

I'm not saying you imagined it.

You want the real talk? I'm way more autistic than most people realize. I am very blunt and literal in interpersonal communication. For more than half of my life, people always assumed I was being way more snarky than I meant, and for a long time I stressed myself out trying to fix that. To always be understood clearly and correctly.

It's an impossible task. I lean into the snark more now, but i'd wager more than half of the times you think I've mocked you I was just being blunt and direct. I have no idea how you misread me so badly. I really don't. The Drink thing? I've seen you explain your problem with it, but it’s really not aimed at anyone and I don’t understand how you get there.

That's not you failing to understand me or me failing to understand you, and it’s certainly not some grand malicious plan. That's just how people are.

I don't have to fix you thinking badly of me. It's okay.

I believe I showed I have no qualms about calling people out by their names when I feel it's important enough. I've called you out on one such occasion, and you responded like an opinionated snowflake. If you want, I can post the PM exchange we had as proof, and let people judge.…
Your words, my bold italic underlining.

That's... very honest and brave of you to share such intimate information. For the record, I never thought of you as malicious. More activism-driven and thus prone to a certain kind of behavior in your zealotry. This information actually explains a lot.

But you have to be fair and acknowledge that I obviously don't really know you, and I couldn't have reached this conclusion based on our exchange only, or your forum posts. It's hard to know the person beyond the words they post on the internet; it's hard to know their true motivations and intentions.

Also, you must know the impact your words can have on people, regardless of what you meant to say with them. The way people react to some of your words can't really come as a surprise.

Anyway, I'm glad we had this talk at least. We can disagree about some topics, but I'd rather discuss things in a constructive way than have these kinds of personal arguments. I'm like a pitbull when I perceive a slight, whether it was intended or not. I also get all righteous about certain things. We all have our quirks. 🫤

Speaking of off topic... the stray thought went through my head that this thread would be way more exciting as -

Fake positions in AI reproduction tools, and the fear of being used for breeding.

I'm so torn... Should I watch this train wreck longer, or reload the NFL waiver news again? It's so hard to choose!

That argument of ours hadn't been about politics at all, man. I don't know how you got there. I am likely one of the least political people here. But I also support moving on from this thing.

I am fully aware of how polarizing I can be. I say it often but I don't think anyone really hears it.

Also, you must know the impact your words can have on people, regardless of what you meant to say with them. The way people react to some of your words can't really come as a surprise.
Am I surprised? No. Am I disappointed? Yes.

All I can do is my best.

Unless you work in data warehousing and are discussing a popular cloud database, that word has become inexorably tied to the everyday lexicon of card carrying members of one specific side of the US political coin.

But agreed. I too have wasted more time today than I like.

US foreign policy? I do know a good deal about it, even if I dislike the topic. But being from South Europe, trust me, my knowledge of the US domestic political arena is almost nonexistent. This is a curious and completely new bit of information to me. Good to know for future reference anyway.

I don’t know about this, I mean you yourself seem awfully surprised by how some people have reacted to some of your words.

@AwkwardMD, Not yet; I'm too busy with other work right now to bother with a story for here that still generates weekly sales on Amazon or ZBS.

I'm partly surprised, I suppose. I don't mince words when it comes to criticism towards Lit, and I understand people can see that as general negativity. They don't want that in a place where they come to relax and think positive thoughts.
I understand that, and I expected a certain blowback for it, but the intensity and the widespread nature of the reaction in certain cases have surprised me anyway.

To quote Rilke - A person isn't who they are during the last conversation you had with them - they're who they've been throughout your whole relationship.
I thought I would be judged by all of my activity over these three years I've been here, not merely by my criticism of some of the Literotica practices.

Well, my apologies for assuming your locale. It’s very widely used in the US by one side of the political coin

I just went to an AI detector and entered

To be, or not to be, that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles
And by opposing end them.
To die—to sleep, No more; and by a sleep to say we end
The heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks
That flesh is heir to: 'tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wish'd. To die, to sleep;
To sleep, perchance to dream—ay, there's the rub:

It told me it was 71.08% AI-generated.
